Seriously stylish shoe and fashion storage from Sagitine

We all know how great storage is and stylish storage is even better. Sagitine have introduced a new range of beautiful storage boxes, designed to transform wardrobe care. And they have one of the most beautiful shoe storage solutions I’ve seen in a long time; something incredibly hard to find (trust me, I’ve been looking!).

mediumwhiteboxstand

smallwhiteshoeboxstand (1)

The brand has high hopes: to inspire beautiful living and offer an advanced method of storing and cataloguing clothes, shoes and accessories. This is serious storage and boy, does it look good. Sagitine’s stackable, multipurpose boxes can be purchased on their own or with accompanying stands which transform them into stylish storage units. Genius. I love the flexibility!

largeblackshoeboxstand

While they look straight out of Italy perhaps, they’ve been developed by Sydneysider Tina Clark, from a simple desire to store and savour her prized items of clothing for later years, when her daughters would be old enough to wear them. Living in Hong Kong at the time, she couldn’t find a storage box that was either beautiful or durable enough to last the test of time. After a year-long search for beautiful storage solutions, she did what many business owners do, and decided to create her own, giving up a career in finance in the process.

Sagitine_black-2569

Unlike the clunky and kitsch storage offerings of old, Sagitine boxes and stands are beautiful in their own right and look at home amongst existing bedroom furniture or integrated into wardrobe and storage spaces. The boxes are available in three sizes – ideal for shoes, accessories, garments and even gowns — and two colour options – classic black and white – to suit any décor.

The boxes are made from high-grade sustainable cardboard with monogrammed leather handles, and are accompanied by a select range of accessories to help preserve treasured fashion items, including beautiful English-made polished horn clothes brushes, cedar blocks, lavender and herb pouches and drawstring muslin bags to keep valuable fabrics safe and sound. The stands are made from aluminium with a powder coated finish and have solid walnut tops. I absolutely have my eye on a box and stand combination for my shoes.

The name Sagitine is a blend of Tina and her daughters’ (Sabine and Gisele) names, which is apt given the range was inspired by her need to preserve items for them to one day inherit.

Sagitine products are available online, in Sydney at Becker Minty, and can be shipped Australia and worldwide.

WIN

One lucky reader will win a full wardrobe care pack in their choice of black or white, worth over $300. It contains one Marrakesh large storage box, four Milan shoe boxes, one medium and one large muslin bag, and two cedar blocks.

For your chance to win, please complete the form below by 5pm on Monday 16 February 2015.

Mr Pinchy and Co are back with more fabulous gold accessories

After a bit of a break to reassess and finesse their business model, I’m delighted that Mr Pinchy and Co and their gorgeous brass objets are back!

Mr Pinchy family (Angle) LR
Mr Pinchy the crab, from $49

Husband and wife team Michael and Lou Beer have changed craftsmen and improved quality and are back with “a broader yet more refined offering” and a new website.

The brand, stocked exclusive by Coco Republic and Becker Minty and also available online, prides itself on its masculinity and old world collector charm. “We feel there is a real void in the market for it,” adds Michael. “Our pieces are made to last, making them great life objects to be revered in the family and handed along over time. It’s often not the price tag that makes an inanimate object loved, but it’s the character, rawness and presence it brings to a space.”

Larry
Larry the lobster, from $99

With Christmas approaching, the men in our lives can certainly be some of the hardest to buy for, but the Pinchy crab claw bottle opener would surely go down well? As a female though, I have to say I’d be delighted to be gifted any of these pieces. I can’t get enough of gold accessories right now!

Other items, including the fabulous new Larry the lobster, are available in polished or brushed gold (moving forward, they will begin to offer antique bronze, antique green and black across some pieces).

Working with his wife is proving successful for Michael: “Lou is my level head. I always want to do the large statement pieces such as crocodile skulls (coming soon), but she reminds me that the price pointed pieces are what people are more likely to buy as gifts or if they are new to our brand and have not seen our pieces or their quality previously.”

Covet my Coffee Table: with Alex Zabotto-Bentley

It’s hard to sum up Alex’s talents, but stylist, designer and events genius will just have to do (read more about AZB Creative’s work here).

alex zabotto bentley

“I love my coffee table clusters! I always mix metals, natural coral, old ceramics and tumbled silver balls and sculptures, kind of like curated clutter but with a gentleman’s retreat aesthetic,” he says. “I travel a lot for work and pleasure, so every surface in my apartment becomes the home to some form of collection of treasures.”

AZB coffee table

The table itself is 1970s, made from Italian brass, glass and lucite and was bought from Ken Neale 20th Century Modern in Sydney.

“The large white elephant ceramic was a gift from a dear friend, lovingly held all the way from Hong Kong in my arms. The bowl and plate were an antique market find from a recent trip to Tokyo and the silver objects are a collective from friends and finds from around the world.”

The coffee table sits on a hand loomed Moroccan Beni Ouarain rug from Becker Minty (I’m noticing a serious trend for people we feature in Covet My Coffee Table shopping there! Jen).

Covet my coffee table: with stylist Steve Cordony

It’s no secret: Steve Cordony is my favourite stylist in Australia. There are so many great ones whose work I love, but Steve, who is now a freelance interiors and event stylist as well as contributing interior design editor for Belle, just blows me away with his talent. I’m delighted that he is sharing his beautiful coffee table (or should I say vintage Louis Vuitton trunk?) with us today.

steve cordony 1

“I think your home should represent not only your personal style but be a 3-dimensional scrapbook of your life,” says Steve. “The little vignettes around our home are collected over time from travels or gifts and represent a certain memory.

steve cordony 2

“The potted orchid is a lovely ‘new office’ present from my friend Jac at Murchison Hume, I bought the bronze tray on a trip to India last year and the candles are Chabaud and Tom Dixon.

“The spotted gold bowl is Waylande Gregory from Becker Minty and the porcelain and gold bowl was bought on a trip to New York. The Japanese painting brushes are from Bali (look for similar from Orient House) and the gold tray is also from India.”

steve cordony 3

And don’t forget your book stack (or two). “Books — every table needs books!”

Covet my coffee table: with The Block judge Darren Palmer

This week’s coffee table comes to you from the child and pet-friendly, yet ever so stylish home, of interior designer and Block judge Darren Palmer!

darren1

Every coffee table needs a tray, of course, and a bit of plant life (gum nuts from the Sydney Flower Market and roses from Thomas Dux). The books change often and the Belle magazine came courtesy of the recent Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards goodie bag.

The clam shell came from a store in Bali on holiday, the gorgeous gilt-edged agate coasters from Becker Minty and the brass turtle from Orson and Blake. The coral came from Contents International Design in Moore Park.

darren3

The coffee table itself came from Boyd Blue and was chosen because it’s low enough for his son to play lego on (much lego can also be found stored underneath!)

darren2

“You can also see two of our three dogs and our cat,” Darren says. Read more about his tips for a child and pet-friendly home and see photos of his home in our previous interview.

6 accessories to add some wow to your coffee table

If there’s one place you can have some fun with decorating, it’s the coffee table. If you’re the sort of person who reads this blog, I’m guessing you’re more likely to be creating little vignettes and stacks of coffee table books (they’re called that for a reason) that express your style, than just thinking of this piece of furniture as somewhere for your remotes and a cup of tea. Am I right?

coffee table accessories

A well styled coffee table makes such a difference to a living room! I have so much fun with my own coffee table. I’m constantly arranging and rearranging, adding fresh flowers, swapping around candles, changing up that month’s favoured books from my collection (possibly colour coding their spines, yes).

I’ve put together these top picks (above) if you are looking to add some instant wow factor, style or a talking point to your own coffee table. I hope you like them. Of course you should make your coffee table yours and a reflection of you, just like the rest of your home. This is just intended as food for thought (especially the donut!). If you don’t have a coffee table (really?!) these could work on a buffet, side table or even bookcase.

Where to buy

Clockwise from top left: Tom Dixon Eclectic candles (the marble lid doubles as a coaster later) from dedece+ ($113 each), gold sculptural spheres (perfect on top of your book stack!) from West Elm (from $49), Ilse vase (the perfect size for small; blooms on your coffee table and heavy enough not to get knocked over easily) from Georg Jensen ($120), the new Adore Home book is not only full of great Aussie interior inspiration, but with its gold cover and hot pink spine, it will look good on your table too, from Adore Home shop ($55), Lumino agate coasters (these are edged in 24k gold and practical as well as stunningly beautiful) from Becker Minty and available in various colours ($195 for four), glass donuts (which make great paper weights or just fun accessories!) by George Agius from CoCo Contemporary Connoisseur ($80 each).

Thomas Bucich on virtual working and his latest collaboration with Becker Minty

Renowned interior designer Thomas Bucich moved to Sydney from New York in 1990 and has been living a bit of a ‘gypsy’ existence ever since, enjoying the best of an international and flexible lifestyle.

These days working anywhere in the world is so much easier,” he says. “Since I moved to Sydney, I’ve always maintained all my professional contacts to keep me current on what’s going on back home, but the bulk of my work is in Sydney.”

He likes to maintain a ‘virtual studio’ with most of his time spent between his design and art studios in Sydney and Avalon on the Northern Beaches. “I love having the flexibility of doing what I do without being tied down to a specific place. I collaborate with some amazing people around the globe. Between Skype sessions and emails, we can make design projects happen anywhere.”

Thomas’ latest collaboration, which he’s very excited about, is with one of my favourite homewares stores, Becker Minty, in Potts Point. “Jason Minty is an amazing entrepreneur and retailer with an aesthetic that I really connect with,” he says. “His stores encapsulate the style I like to create with my interiors, based on collecting one of a kind pieces and adding luxurious finishes and textures. We had a chat about creating an interior design studio in-house that would complete the offering of the store; to make Becker Minty a one-stop-shop for everything from cufflinks to fully bespoke interiors.”

Photographer Felix Forest’s passion for design leads to stunning interiors images

If you haven’t already heard of Felix Forest, you’ve probably seen some of his beautiful interiors shots without realising. He really does know how to capture the essence of a home. When I look at his images I start imagining who lives in the home and how they might hang out there. It’s a real skill.

Coming from a creative family, he’s been passionate about furniture, interiors and design for many years and taking photographs since he was very young. “I go to auctions on a weekly basis and revamp pieces. I studied and trained in film photography. After assisting for a short time in still life and fashion, I started documenting some of my creative friends’ spaces, which opened opportunities with magazines.” Now his work’s been featured everywhere, including Belle, Vogue Living, (inside), Inside Out, AD Mexico, Real Living and Vogue Australia. He regularly gets to work alongside his partner, interior designer and stylist Dina Broadhurst.

Felix Forest by Dina Broadhurst

Like me, the Sydney-based Frenchman loves discovering new interiors and meeting the people who live in them. Lucky enough to travel extensively for work, he enjoys the constant change of scenery and learning about art and design pieces from passionate homeowners. The hardest part is finding new and unpublished homes and persuading people to let him shoot them. “The owners always feel they are not ready or finished.” And let’s face it, what home is ever really finished?

Sunday Snippets: The best of the week in interiors

  •  I am a big fan of stylist Jane Frosh and this week I featured her Blue Mountains home, which is up for sale. It was recently on the cover of Country Style and it is AMAZING. Check it out.

It’s been a fantastic week for PR, with a double-pager in Ivy & Piper magazine and a feature in The West Australian’s Habitat section. I’m always really grateful for and excited by press coverage. I love getting the Interiors Addict message out far and wide so I was particularly please to be in a WA newspaper.

This coming week my apartment is being photographed for Northside magazine’s ‘At home with’ feature. I’m a little nervous, I must admit!

I’m looking forward to speaking at decoration + design in Melbourne on Friday. I’ll be there on Thursday too. If you’re exhibiting or coming to my talk with Darren Palmer, please let me know and I’ll try and make time to say hi! I’m making a weekend of it and can’t wait to stay at The Blackman, one of the art series hotels. The interiors look stunning and I can’t wait to check it out.

In totally unrelated news, this week I took the diamond my fiancé proposed with to the jeweller to be made into my engagement ring. VERY exciting and still floating on a post-engagement cloud…

I’m off to watch Downton Abbey. Have a fantastic week ahead and I hope to meet lots of you at decoration + design!

Interiors Addict in The West Australian

I’m hoping to spread the interiors addiction to Perth and beyond after appearing in The West Australian newspaper on Friday!

Big thanks to Cat Burke and Jason Minty at Becker Minty for letting me have my photo taken in the beautiful Potts Point store earlier this week. If you’re in Sydney, go visit!

Becker Minty is DIVINE!

This morning I had my photograph taken for The West Australian newspaper. They’re running a story on me and my blog later this week. They asked to take it at my home (sorry, no, too stressful! Not ready for my home to be judged just yet! But one day…) or a favourite homewares store. Now despite having interviewed owner Jason Minty, featured beautiful photos of the store on this blog and heard a million and one good things about it from stylists and fellow interiors addicts, I’d never actually been in. But I knew it would be a great place to have my photo taken and I wasn’t wrong. I’m hoping being surrounded by gorgeous things makes me look better in the photos!

June’s top 5 most popular posts!

Happy July! I had some record traffic last month, which is always nice! And today is my birthday so no original content today if you don’t mind. I have presents to open 😉

Here are last month’s most popular posts:

Top 10 interior styling essentials From cushions and candles to trays and books, I put together my own top 10 interior styling essentials. They’re all things you probably already have or can pick up cheaply to change the look and feel of your home. It does’t have to cost a fortune to make a big impact! Incidentally, I wrote this post after reading a chapter of my Problogger eBook about list posts and how popular they are. Turns out that was good advice then! Are there any other top 10s you’d like to read here?

New Brunswick bar takes cues from west coast Art Deco My blog’s pretty Sydney centric but this post about a new Melbourne bar had you all excited. I’m thinking of including more content about bar, restaurant and hotel  interiors. Would you like that?

It takes two: Meet Arent & Pyke The amount of time this interview took to line up became a bit of a running joke with Juliette, Sarah-Jane and I but it was worth the wait! These two women have got to be Sydney’s hottest female design duo.

Becker Minty celebrates five years of bringing us unique and beautiful homewares and fashion I loved this interview with Becker Minty owner Jason Minty who is so obviously passionate about what he does. Congrats on your five-year store anniversary last month!

Stacey Kouros: from Greg Natale’s protege to respected interior designer in her own right Another reality TV star done good in the interiors industry, Stacey (who is lovely) also benefited from several years training under award-winning designer Natale. But these days she’s doing her own thing and loving every minute.

Becker Minty celebrates five years of bringing us unique and beautiful homewares and fashion

Becker Minty is a not a shop, it’s a lifestyle concept, and one very much wrapped up in the personal taste of its owner. The Potts Point institution turns five this month and at a time when eCommerce is robbing many independent shops of their livelihoods, Becker Minty is bucking the trend by constantly offering something new, getting the un-gettable and providing much more than just a shopping destination.

We wanted to create a place that was more of a retail and design experience,” says founder Jason Minty. “When people walk through the front door I want them to completely leave the outside world behind and immerse themselves into our world. We are a destination store that provides an entire experience. There are products to tantalise every sense and customers are seduced by the beauty around them.”
