What’s new in kitchens & bathrooms: March 2021

Textured concrete basins, accessories inspired by ancient Greek architecture and Dolce and Gabbana‘s latest SMEG collaboration, this latest bathroom and kitchen looks are an eclectic bunch.

Concrete Nation RAW collection: Comprised of three new textured basins (Cosa, Terra and Milos), in three custom earth-toned colours (clay, oyster and stone), the latest Concrete Nation collection is inspired by the pandemic.

“If this year has taught us anything, it is that we have a strong desire to connect to nature and that our interiors should be serene, layered and warm spaces we can retreat to in a fast-paced digital world. As a result, there really is a renewed appreciation for, and a return to, thoughtful design and craftsmanship. This collection is the antithesis of polished man-made surfaces and cookie-cutter pieces,” says Concrete Nation co-founder Kate Lett. From $890.

The RAW basins are handcrafted to showcase architectural concrete in is raw, natural form.

Greg Natale Hellenica bathroom accessories: Informed by ancient Greek architecture, Greg Natale’s latest bathroom accessories celebrate linearity and geometry with a design that references the concentric square ceiling coffers that adorned the Acropolis. The range includes a gloss white tray, soap pump (brass or silver top) and storage jar. The Hellenica collection complements the designer’s gorgeous Astoria towel range. From $15.

Bathroom vanities: what’s hot right now

We’ve noticed some gorgeous new bathroom vanities on the scene lately so I’m here to share some of my favourites and some of the great customisation options available. The ability to customise is becoming much more common and affordable which is great news for renovators, especially those with tricky spaces or specific tastes.

Blossom by ISSY

First up, the latest ISSY by Zuster collection, exclusive to Reece Bathrooms, is called Blossom and it’s beautiful, as always. These showstopping vanities (as well as cabinets and mirrors) aren’t cheap but they’re stunning designs, built to last.

“The ISSY by Zuster Blossom range encapsulates a real opportunity to deliver luxurious, handcrafted Australian-made bathroom furniture that caters to the user’s every need,” says Reece bathroom and kitchen merchandising leader, Daniela Santilli.

Created by Zuster (sisters Wilhelmina McCarroll and Fleur Sibbel), this highly functional, feminine collection has been created primarily for women, featuring thoughtful conveniences that help create a truly seamless bathroom experience.

“I really enjoyed designing the Blossom range because I like to think about how we use the bathroom. Like us, many women are busy with family and work, and want to start and finish their day with an amazing experience at home,” says Wilhelmina.

With this in mind, the Blossom collection integrates a wealth of modern conveniences within each piece. Think concealed, soft-close vanity drawers that pop out with the tap of a finger and feature different compartments for all your personal grooming items. And mirror configurations that allow you to see your hair from every angle (a feature the designers were looking to experience in their own bathrooms).

Designed with flexibility and personalisation in mind, Blossom can be customised to fit with a diversity of bathroom spaces and styles, with an abundance of storage and customisable material and finish options. It comes in six American Oak finishes including light lime wash and a rich, dark slate stain. you can also choose from 12 handle finishes.

“Manufacturing locally means customers can customise their furniture while receiving their products within six-to-eight weeks, instead of up to 20 weeks’ wait time for overseas suppliers,” says Fleur.

“We appreciate the bathroom vanity for more than just its practical purposes. Rather, we see it as a beautiful and functional piece of furniture – a centrepiece for your bathroom retreat,” says Wilhelmina. “We have studied the beauty of flowers to create a collection that is both decorative and delicately organic.”

The popular Highgrove Bathrooms’ blackbutt timber vanity collection is now available with customisation options, so you can create a unique centrepiece in your bathroom. Whether you prefer natural stone, marble, or quartz top, you can personalise the new Jones & Jones wall hung vanities, adding a timeless and elegant look to your space.

The eco-friendly design of the Jones and Jones vanities uses water-resistant properties with an interior core of 23mm of marine ply, for minimal maintenance and to ensure they don’t expand and contract over time.

Designed with crisp lines and a large drawer format with modular dividers, the vanity not only adapts to any bathroom style, but provides the perfect storage solution to keep all your essentials organised. Featuring Blum soft-close drawers and a long lasting lacquer, so every surface is protected to repel water and remain durable for many years to come.

Available in five sizes from 750mm to 1800mm wide with a five-year warranty.

Shop Jones and Jones vanities at Highgrove Bathrooms from $950

If you’re looking for something more traditional, I love the options at Vanity by Design, especially the Hayley, which you can buy with a Carrara marble top.

They have plenty of modern designs too though, like the Eadie. All in all, a great place to look for both classic and contemporary options.

Somewhere I’m loving for the sheer amount of customisation options available, all online, is The Blue Space. They have just about every style of traditional and contemporary vanity, in all manner of finishes and with countless options for tops, basins and handles. There are also a lot of floorstanding options, which aren’t as popular these days due to our love of wall-hung, so can be tricky to find. Sometimes floorstanding is still the best (or preferred) option though!

We recently shared the coloured concrete cylinder pedestal wash stands from Nood Co. Perfect for a powder room, totally unique and available in 14 colours!

And there are two navy options we’re pretty mad for at Early Settler at the moment, a brand whose vanities have, until now, been very much on the tractional end of the spectrum! This one’s the Nate.

How long does a bathroom take? The Block vs. reality!

Reece Bathrooms’ Daniela Santilli weighs in how long a bathroom really takes…

There’s no doubt about it, The Block contestants completed a phenomenal amount of work each week. Of course, that is because they’re dedicating 100% of their time and effort to the task; not letting a day job or even sleep get in their way. If The Block has inspired you to tackle a bathroom makeover, you’ve probably wondered how long your own renovation will take. Here, I outline the key stages involved in building a bathroom, whether you’re starting from scratch or renovating.

Mitch and Mark’s Block bathroom, via Reece

Stage #1: Defining your vision
The start of your bathroom renovation will be marked by the creation of your vision for your project. Gathering inspiration on and offline, creating a mood board and collecting samples of fixtures, fittings, hardware and finishes will help you define your style, and what you want your bathroom to look like. This is something you’ll continue to revisit and refine throughout the design process.

“Having a clear vision of your bathroom renovation will definitely set up the process to run as smoothly as possible. Spend the time looking at your budget and working through the costings. Always add in a buffer for unforeseen issues, as they always arise,” says Alisa, one half of former The Block winners and interior design duo, Alisa and Lysandra. “We also find it vital to order all the different samples and place in a mood board, to give the overall feel of the project.”

Stage #2: Pre-Build
Once you have the design locked in, it’s time to order your bathroom products, confirm relevant permits and find and book the right tradespeople – obviously something that can prove to be contentious on The Block! It typically takes around 10 weeks to decide on products and materials, get your paperwork in order, and meet and book in your tradies.

“Bathroom renovations are often the busiest as they can require a variety of tradies that need to work at all different stages. When booking your tradies, make sure to do your research and finds ones that come recommended and shop around with quotes. Make sure to communicate clearly on all the details and timelines,” says Lysandra.

Stage #3: Meeting your team
While there’s an element of ‘making it up as you go’ on The Block, to avoid that kind of pressure it’s important to communicate the finer details before the work begins. Hold a meeting with your project manager and/or tradespeople to discuss your design – everything from grout colour, tap and vanity height to power point locations. This will ensure everyone is on the same page and your vision is expertly realised.

Elise and Matt’s Block bathroom via Reece

Stage #4: Preparing the build
The Block is a 24-hour worksite, your home isn’t. Your tradespeople will need 2-to-4 days to set up the site, sequester the area they need to work in and, most importantly, check that all your products have arrived and are correct.

Stage #5: Building your new space
The next stage is when everything starts to take shape, with waterproofing then tiling, and fixtures and fittings being installed. This usually takes between 8-to-10 days on site. Earlier this season, we saw what happened when Jesse and Mel went full steam ahead with their guest ensuite; their desire to race to the finish line meant that things were missed and, ultimately, led to an unfinished bathroom. While Jesse and Mel may have been bound by a tighter deadline than a renovation off The Block, this lesson in process and procedure is one to remember in any bathroom project.

Stage #6: The finishing touches
Work should slow down at this point, but this means that the details are being perfected. It’s these little details that really matter, because they’re what makes the space uniquely yours. By taking the time to install them correctly, things like robe hooks, toilet roll holders and towel rails will be perfectly placed for your needs. Expect this to take 4-to-5 days.

Stage #7: Sign off and handover
Instead of a mad dash to the finish line, you’ll have a couple of days to inspect all the amazing work your team have done and sign off the job with your builder. Check if there are any snags in the tiles that have been laid, or that the tap pressure and flow is adequate, for example. It’s not something we see on The Block regularly, but it’s an important element of creating a bathroom that’s better than you imagined.

Creating a bathroom is a really rewarding experience if you follow the right steps. Remember, it’s not a race or a competition. Unlike The Block, it’s best to take your time, prepare yourself for every stage and avoid the drama.

From creating your moodboard to managing your bathroom build,  The Bathroom Kit has everything you need to create a bathroom better than you imagined.

What do you think of the above advice? Does it fit your own experience or expectations?

It’s that time again when we bring you our latest fabulous bathroom finds and this month has seen the emergence of mixed metals in the bathroom. While not for everyone, it’s a great look for those that have trouble making up their mind!

How to: Choose the perfect shower head

While not the most glamorous of topics, choosing the right shower head can have a significant bearing on just how glam you may feel when leaving the house. Take me for instance. I have the hair of three people meaning the shower head is possibly my chief concern in a bathroom. I’ve actually been known to choose a hotel based on the shower head and I do remember one particularly inadequate one while holidaying in the Amalfi (those days are long gone…ahem, kids!). The water that came out of it was nothing more than a dribble, which seriously impacted on my Positano chic vibe but I digress.

Shower
The shower is the bathroom’s hero according to the latest research. Tapware by GROHE.

It seems that I’m not alone in being a little shower obsessed. Our friends at Reece did some research recently that found that the shower area is the number one zone for Aussies in the bathroom – you could even call it the hero space. Obviously, the bathing experience relies heavily on the shower head given it not only imparts cleanliness but relaxation and invigoration too.

Modern bathroom
This residential bathroom has a spa-like feel

From functionality to style and more, Reece Bathrooms consultant, Megan Gooding, gave us the skinny recently on how to choose the perfect shower head.

Who will be using the shower head?
“Always consider the users as your priority. If the shower is for the main bedroom’s ensuite, you might want more advanced functionality than a shower that would be installed in a family bathroom. Or, you might even indulge in two shower heads if you have the space,” says Megan.

Functionality
Formerly there wasn’t much choice when it came to shower heads but the trend toward spa-like bathing spaces has fixed this. And you’re no longer just limited to choosing a rain shower head or shower arm – tech has officially entered the bathroom.

GROHE Smart Control shower head
The GROHE Rainshower Smart Control system

“If you want the option of switching the strength, pattern or temperature of the water, we’d suggest looking to the latest GROHE Rainshower Smart Control system or the GROHE Power and Soul range. Alternatively, try the Methven Aio Aurajet which delivers a unique fan-like spray pattern. Shower head technology is now super advanced, so make sure you look at the entire selection before making your decision,” says Megan.

GROHE Power and soul shower head
GROHE Power and Soul shower head

Style
“Every bathroom has a style or theme, so a good start when choosing your shower head is to mimic the same style. You can choose square, round or semi-rounded shapes – there are angles to complement every aesthetic,” says Megan. From brass to chrome and rose gold, there are plenty of fabulous finishes on offer too.

Black tapware
Statement black tapware

Are you replacing an old shower head?
“If this is the case, it’s best to get direct advice from your plumber and visit a showroom to discuss your current set up with a consultant. It’s even better if you bring in some photos which can help determine which shower heads will or won’t work for the space,” says Megan.

Four real bathrooms showcase latest trends

It could be said of kitchens too but there was once a time when all modern bathrooms looked much the same. From a minimalist Perth home to an art deco Melbourne property, these four bathrooms prove just how eclectic modern bathroom style is.

Elwood bathroom

Golden opulence
“This young professional Elwood couple wanted to take their original, quirky but impractical bathroom and convert it into a large lush bathroom. Our client wanted the space to feel soft and align with the vintage art deco style of the 1931 built home, with modern inclusions such as brushed rose tapware and a few wow factors along the way,” says Deb Cadzow, co-owner of Elwood Trade Services.

Free standing bath with rose gold tap ware
The brushed rose gold tapware is so elegant

The brushed rose gold tapware (Sussex Scala) is the hero of the space for me – swoon! Combined with the tiles, a gorgeous Kado Lux Petite freestanding bath and plantation shutters, it has a lovely spa-like feel. The bathroom is also a great example of using the same colours in different finishes to imbue the space with depth and texture. “The variation and textural finish produced by the tile layout added colour, depth and interest in this bathroom. The different wall tile and realistic wood grained floor tile offset the brushed rose gold tapware,” says Deb.

Rose gold details

“This was a period art-deco style home, but in the bathroom, the style was kept modern and fresh, yet restrained enough to align with the art-deco look,” says Deb. Ultimately, I think it’s a gorgeous exercise in restraint and is a fabulous example of a bathroom that is timeless but a little bit different too.

Clean & contemporary
Located in Perth and part of a newly built home, this clean and modern ensuite is comprised of a large dual basin vanity, ample storage and a wall-length mirror that increases the feeling of space.

Contemporary bathroom vanity

“This bathroom is focussed on the best elements of modern, simple design. The wow-factor is found through the combination of contemporary clean lines, dramatic colour contrasts and minimal accessories,” says Joe Varacalli, sales and marketing manager for New Choice Homes who built the home. “The effective contrast between the dark tiles on the walls and light floor tiles and white vanity delivers a moody, stylish look to the space,” says Joe.

Contemporary bathroom bath

“The open shelves are a great modern storage solution that visually breaks up the long vanity. The walk-in shower completely enhances the spaciousness of the bathroom and offers a large luxury zone to unwind too,” says Joe.

Shower details

Stylish country
Part of a new build, these two bathrooms takes their design cues from their Southern Highlands location. “The design brief was modern farmhouse. Burrawang is a quaint village with many cottages dating back to the 1800’s. We wanted to keep the heritage feel of the village but provide a custom-built luxurious home with some modern features too,” says Jess Vassallo, managing director/builder at JNV Constructions, the company responsible for the build.

Bathroom number one - country style
Bathroom one

The home features plenty of farmhouse inclusions such as timber weatherboards, a corrugated Colorbond roof, hardwood floorboards and v-joint lining boards throughout. But it’s also full of mod-cons too. “We were able to include modern features such as underfloor heating to add a luxurious touch yet design the bathrooms and laundry to reflect the modern farmhouse style,” says Jess.

Bathroom two
Bathroom two

“Reece Kado Classic tapware was used in both bathrooms to recreate the era of the village. This, teamed with custom shaker cabinetry, handmade subway tiles and Carrara marble bench tops created an inviting space for the homeowners to enjoy,” says Jess.

4 real bathrooms to inspire your home design

There’s nothing better than being inspired by real bathrooms. I’m talking spaces that are beautiful but most importantly practical, that are used every day and not just knocked up for a photoshoot. These bathrooms work! And are perfect for kickstarting your design plans if you need a push in the right direction. Check out four fabulous examples below.

Complete indulgence: Teneriffe, QLD

Often we feel the need to book into a day spa to truly pamper ourselves, when in fact achieving spa style luxury at home can be as easy as selecting a few quality pieces. This bathroom is the perfect example of embracing the finer things in life, with its stunning freestanding bath turning routine into ritual. The speckled greys and stone hues of the marble tiles brings a moody, soothing feel, while touches of timber add a rich warmth.

Design: Purdy Developments | Build: Tonic Projects

Textual takeover: Ivanhoe, Vic

This oasis of modern tranquillity has a strong design aesthetic. Pale grey tiles fit inside a largely monochrome colour palate to give off a cool atmosphere. Benchtops and cabinets draped in greys and timber work in unison to give off a sleek and polished feel. Artistic features are abundant in this contemporary bathroom, which successfully fuses sharp edges with delicate accessories.

Design: Pioneering Bathroom Designs | Build: Den Interior Designs

Dark vs. light: Austinmer, NSW

Taking a tonal exploration to the extreme, these two tiled-up bathrooms create big impact with bold shades, sleek profiles and simple, purposeful design. The main bathroom employs a restrained colour palette that keeps the room feeling spacious and bright. A generous vanity stretches the length of the room, in warm timber that introduces a natural element to the space. Concealed behind connecting doorways are the washroom and toilet spaces, cohesive in their monochrome colour schemes.

Over in the ensuite and it’s all about drama with moody colours and edgy fittings; seen in the bold charcoal hexagonal tiling and matte black tapware, hooks and rails. The dark tones are brought to life with a warm timber bench top, a feature piece that is the centre point of the bathroom. A crisp white ceramic basin pops against the charcoal and wooden tones, and is a modern addition with its thin edge design.

The 4 biggest bathrooms questions answered

Whether big or small, bathroom projects can come with a lot of questions. So Reece – together with some of our favourites from The Block – have tackled the four biggest bathroom questions and giving us all the answers.

1. What’s the best way to plan a project?

Everyone is different, and the way we work is too. What is easy for you may be hard for someone else, and that’s okay. Bathroom renovations are the same, so play to your strengths. Whether you’re an experienced renovator looking for a smooth process, or someone new to the game in need of a helping hand, a personalised plan will help you get the most out of your project. Check out Reece’s Bathroom Creator Quiz to help determine your strengths and the My Project Planner to start planning like a pro.

2. How can I get the latest look for the best value?

5 star luxury doesn’t have to mean a 5 star budget. By splurging on the important areas and saving in others, you can achieve any look, in any home, on any budget. Don’t compromise on the quality of products you touch and feel daily, like tapware. But save on areas like tiling and accessories for an achievable, affordable result. Block contestants Julia and Sasha recommend saving on tiling by not tiling every wall; while judge Shaynna Blaze says not to spend too much on floor tiles and instead save the impact for the walls.

3. How can I add luxury to my bathroom?

Your bathroom is a personal sanctuary; a place for escape, relaxation and rejuvenation. Create a destination of delight with strong surfaces and elegant, organic shapes. A space where you love to start and finish your day. For true luxury, treat yourself to the absolute best in materials, technology and function. Shaynna suggests embracing extravagance with black tapware and textured tiles: “Bevelled edges reflect light beautifully.” And to get the luxury look for less Blockheads Alisa & Lysandra recommend choosing a hero product and building around it.

4. How do I choose the right colour for my bathroom?

Colour is an extension of your personality. Colours have meaning and can change the way you feel, so choose the colours that speak to you. Some bathroom trends will have colours that work better than others; Scandinavian themed bathrooms are generally washed with a muted or pastel scheme, while contemporary bathrooms gives you the license to lean toward something bolder.

Turn your bathroom into a Nordic oasis with Julia and Sasha

Who better to ask about renovating and building than two of our favourite ex- Blockheads? Reece have teamed up with some of our favourite stars from the show to create six new bathrooms and endless inspiration.

Today, we’re checking out the designs of Julia and Sasha who have taken on the trend: Nordic Minimal. With two designs for two budgets (everyday and luxe) they share their tips and tools so you too can transform your bathroom into a Scandinavian oasis.

Everyday Nordic Minimal

A reinterpretation of the popular Scandinavian look for the everyday home. Think muted colours, clean lines and minimal design. Wanting a seamless space, Julia and Sasha made the vanity the feature. “We selected a round shape because it’s soft to work with the theme,” explains Julia. “We then carried the look through to the shower, too.” When money’s tight the duo recommend spending on tapware but saving on tiling, by not tiling every wall.

Everyday Nordic Minimal

The luxe version

Create luxury with fine lines, neutral tones and a restrained aesthetic. Feature incredible centrepieces and add interest with a mixture of geometric shapes. “Choose a hero piece,” says Sasha. “Think decadent freestanding baths, indulgent double vanities or dramatic mirrors.” Also spend big on the tapware: “In any bathroom, tapware is the thing you interact with, touch and feel most frequently.” Finally, enrich the room with luxurious materials like a solid surface bench top.

All the details from Sunday’s Block en suite bathrooms

Sunday night saw three of the five couples present en suites as well as guest bedrooms; quite the achievement! So we thought we’d take a closer look and tell you exactly which products and tiles they chose, in case you saw something which inspired you. I liked that they were all very different. Which was your favourite?

Oh, how I loved this one, especially the tile and tap choices. Just classic and gorgeous, but with a modern twist. I like how their patterned floor was quite subtle.

This bathroom isn’t really my style, and I agreed it didn’t necessarily suit the bedroom or the rest of the house but still, it was a really spacious, light-filled, impressively finished space.

This was probably my favourite. I’m a sucker for the gold tapware; it’s just stunning. Keeping everything else quite simple was a great move, letting the hardware do the talking! But those black basins provided some great contrast too.

Jen’s lust list 07.03.17

Sorry I missed my lust list last week! We were moving and life just got a bit hectic!

DesignByThem’s Butter Stool now comes in a new light blue colour. I love the look of these stools and the fact they’re made from 80% recycled materials. Amazingly, the stool is made from a single piece of material which is folded together to become rigid and create the final shape! $319 each and available in nine other colours.

We bought a house last week (yay! Mortgaged for LIFE!) so I’m mentally decorating, renovating and furnishing already. One item on the shopping list for the new home is a solid timber dining table. Something simple and timeless which can withstand knocks and scratches from small people and even get better with age. I really like this Malmo table from Life Interiors, which is currently on sale. $1,274.15

I love the idea of a round one but it won’t work in the space. And marble tops are gorgeous but they’re not cheap and I just know someone will end up taking a chip out of it with something!

Our bedroom post with Darren Palmer last week reminded how important sheets can be to styling your bed. A pop of colour or pattern under your quilt can make a big impact! I’m loving the pink hue of these French linen sheets from WA brand Bedtonic ($339 for queen size sheet set).

If you like the style of bed those sheets are on too, did you know there’s a crazy sale happening at Incy Interiors and their super simple Megan Morton collaboration four-posters in black or cream are currently HALF PRICE. I have never been so tempted! Queen size is now down to $649.50. If your bed’s king size, their Sybilla velvet bedheads are currently a steal on sale too!

And last but by no means least, they’ve added some new customisation options (including vanity tops and two-tone vanity legs) to the drop dead gorgeous Issy by Zuster bathroom collection, available exclusively at Reece. If money were no object, I’d be decking out my new bathrooms in this stuff for sure. I’ll keep dreaming though…

Divine, am I right?!

Blue crush: Jason Grant’s dream bathroom

In the latest instalment of the Reece Designer Looks series, super stylist Mr Jason Grant has teamed up with Melbourne’s Doherty Design Studio to create one seriously gorgeous bathroom. Drawing heavily on his neighborhood for inspiration, Bondi local Jason has infused the space with plenty of his trademark crisp, clean good looks. “It’s no secret that I call Bondi home and love the iconic Icebergs pool – it’s my happy place and a source of constant inspiration,” says Jason.

Geometric shapes and a gorgeous blue palette combine to create a crisp yet inviting space that is super practical too.  “The bathroom for me is all about everyday luxury, a room that shouldn’t be forgotten about. It needs to be practical, functional but can still be a beautiful and inspiring sanctuary, decorated just like any other space in your home,” says Jason who included an in-built ledge in the vaniuty providing the perfect spot for pretty perfume bottles and other personal items.

Designer Looks has seen Reece collaborate with a variety of leading designers, editors, stylists and architects to produce a range of inspirational looks in 3D. The initiative has seen key creatives teamed with a leading architect or designer to create a visual concept of their dream bathroom that is then brought to life with 3D digital renders and floorplans. “Collaboration is how I like to work best. The sharing of two different perspectives and sets of ideas from often creates a unique outcome and brings the most exciting results,” says Jason.

Collaborations thus far have included Adele Bates and 4D Studio, Nicky Lobo and Thomas Coward, Mandi Keighran and Tony Chenchow. In exciting news, an upcoming instalment will include our very own Jen Bishop who will be collaborating with the expert stager Naomi Findlay of Silk Staging. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Warm up your bathroom with some Scandi-cool this winter

When you consider the widespread penchant for minimalist design, and the way it is often executed in such a cold and uninviting way, it makes sense that the Scandinavian take on the trend is so wildly popular. Scandinavian design manages to infuse clean lines and clutter free spaces with warmth and appeal in a beautifully understated way – the perfect bathroom inspiration.

Reece_Bathrooms_NORDIC_007

With winter very much set in, the bathroom can feel like a cold, uninviting minimalist space but it needn’t be that way. Look to the Scandinavians for simple ways to warm up a space – they’re experts given their ridiculously cold climes

“A pared back Scandinavian style, Nordic minimalism is keeping it simple without being too austere. Hints of soft colour add character to the room which is balanced with imperfect materials such as concrete look tiles and white washed ply,” says interior stylist Bree Leech of the Reece bathroom pictured.

Less is more
Just as Coco Chanel said you should always remove an accessory or one item of clothing before leaving the house, less really can mean more when it comes to Nordic minimalism. Keep your spaces simple and opt for clean lines and a neutral palette. Think baths and sinks with smooth lines and minimal detail. Plus, there are lots of fabulous baths on the market these days that, while spacious inside, are neat and compact in design too.

Fine lines
Bench tops are trending to the slimmer side this year with basins following suit. Thin, delicate edges are big on the bathroom style radar this year –  think paper-fine edges for a super sleek finish.

White on white
When it comes to bathrooms, tone-on-tone white is always a timeless, fresh look. It also looks clean and uncluttered and has enduring appeal.

What’s your bathroom style? Check out these stylist picks

We love a bit of bathroom inspiration here at Interiors Addict and the latest pics from Reece have given us plenty of that. Styled by leading Australian stylists Jason Grant, Marsha Golemac and Bree Leech, the pics feature beautiful Milli tapware. Whether you’re renovating, would like to, or you’re simply looking for a bit of interiors escapism, these pics are pretty dreamy. But they also pose the question – just what is your bathroom style?

Boho 1

‘Boho’ bathroom styled by Bree Leech

With its casual vibe perfect for coastal locales, the boho trend is one that just simply never dies though thankfully, it does evolve. With the addition of the wood, Armadillo & Co rug, textured stools and potted plants, this bathroom is pretty gorgeous. But as far as inspiration goes, how fabulous is the aqua indoor/outdoor shower recess?!? We love its mid-century patterned concrete too.

‘Simple Luxury’ bathroom styled by Marsha Golemac

If understated elegance is your thing the Simple Luxury space, styled by Marsha Golemac, should tick the boxes. The marble splashback and copper mirror are obviously on trend but the featured Milli Pure three-piece tapware set caught our eye with its smooth, subtle curves and pared-back forms. What’s even better is that the tapware is available in rose gold, matte black, chrome and gun metal. Yay!

‘Neo Classic’ bathroom styled by Jason Grant

Brought to life by super stylist Jason Grant, the Neo Classic bathroom space draws heavily on the masculine, timeless appeal of black and is complemented by the use of the Milli Axon basin mixer. Not only does it have gorgeous, clean lines but the black and chrome colour combo make this a heavenly pairing. This look is so appealing because of its timelessness – it’s a look that’s almost certain to endure and when it comes to something as costly as a bathroom, that can only be a good thing.

‘Coastal Living’ bathroom styled by Jason Grant

As you’ve no doubt noticed, black tapware is trending in a big way and the Coastal Living bathroom has a lovely, understated monochromatic palette only augmented by the crisp lines of the black Milli Glance basin mixer. Stylish with a capital S!

Top five tips to warm up your bathroom this winter

With its hard surfaces of tile, stone and ceramic, the bathroom can be one of the coldest rooms in the house but, with a few clever tricks, it really doesn’t have to be that way. Recently, our lovely friends at Reece shared their top five tips on how to create a more inviting bathroom this autumn and winter.

4.Luxury Hero Bathroom

  1. Heat it up

Heated towel rails are a quick and easy way to add some luxury to your bathroom and will instantly warm up your space. Enjoy the feeling of wrapping up in a fluffy, warm towel after a steamy shower or bath. Heated towel rails are also an excellent space saver for storing your towels and add to the aesthetics of your bathroom too. There are a wide range of styles available to suit your bathroom design and practical requirements, including traditional ladders, swivel, mobile, freestanding and individual rails.

Reece

  1. Add warmth underfoot

If you’re looking for a little warmth underfoot then underfloor heating is a clever solution and such a luxury on cold winter mornings. Because heat rises, underfloor heating is one of the most efficient ways to heat your home and is a great long-term investment.  Advancements in technology mean underfloor heating systems can now be installed in the concrete slab of a new build and can be retrofit too.

  1. Rug up

Bath mats or rugs are an easy and cost effective way to keep your feet warm in the bathroom. Place them in front of the sink, toilet and shower to keep your feet warm. Opt for a warm colour or stylish pattern to add to your bathroom design.

  1. Let natural light in

Windows, skylights and a clear glass shower surround make the most of natural light and on a sunny day can add extra warmth. Make sure your windows are air-tight to avoid letting cold air into the bathroom – even the smallest crack can result in the loss of warm air.

  1. Colour your walls

A splash of colour can instantly add a sense of warmth to your bathroom on a chilly morning. Warm tones such as red, orange and yellow can help create a cosy ambience in a space.
