June 7 Vignettes with Brown Paper Lemon

This month (June starts tomorrow, can you believe it?!) we’ve partnered with Nikki Hernan from Brown Paper Lemon, a regular participant in 7 Vignettes herself and someone who knows a thing or two about a good looking insta-feed!

Nikki says: “It’s such an honour to be this month’s 7 Vignettes guest judge. Brown Paper Lemon was born to inspire little ones to nurture nature and love the space they call their own. So this month is all about nurseries and children’s rooms. I’ve created childhood-inspired prompts to challenge and celebrate these very special rooms. Inspiration could be drawn from your children or grandchildren or revisiting your own childhood memories and the space you grew up in. I cannot wait to see all the love in your entries!”

Gold Coast illustration studio Brown Paper Lemon offers a range of home decor to inspire children to recognise and appreciate the world’s threatened creatures. “I envisage the more awareness and love created for them will protect and ensure these endangered species are here for many generations to come,” Nikki says. $1 from every product sold is donated to WWF Australia.

One winner each day will get a wall decal of their choice and the overall winner will receive a $100 Brown Paper Lemon voucher, a print of their choice from @onetinytribe and a @PrettyTidy_Roshnee grey dipped grid sack.

The fun starts tomorrow (Wednesday) for seven days. You need to tag @interiorsaddict and @brownpaperlemon and use the hashtag #7vignettes. All guidelines here. Please ask any questions in the comments.

Good luck and, most importantly, have fun!

October 7 Vignettes with The Vignette Room

I’m delighted to announce that the next round of 7 Vignettes, starting a week today (yes, already!), is being sponsored by the very aptly named Sydney (and online) store, The Vignette Room! They’ve chosen some fantastic themes which I think you’re going to love!

Oct 7 Vignettes The Vignette Room

The Vignette Room (featured on the blog here) have generously donated a $500 voucher for the overall winner and seven daily theme prizes of $100. Jennifer Brown, the daughter half of the mother/daughter duo behind this beautiful shop, says: “We love that 7 Vignettes is always such a visual treat and that it allows people to showcase their creativity. We love watching it unfold every month and seeing how people’s personalities come out in the vignettes they create. We especially love how there are so many wildly different interpretations of the themes and that it’s such an individual expression of what the themes mean to them.”

The Vignette Room truly is a visual feast and we thoroughly recommend a visit if you’re in Sydney. It’s a great example of why it’s still great to shop in bricks and mortar stores and meet the people curating their wares.

The ladies recently had this ‘manifesto’ hand painted onto the shop wall

Jennifer adds: “We first played along in December last year when Domayne sponsored and we had the most amazingly fun couple of days creating our visual interpretations of the themes. We’re so excited to sponsor 7 Vignettes so we can give people a little bit of an insight into who we are as a mother/daughter team and as an interior lifestyle store and what makes us tick through our themes. Plus, then we have an excuse to play along again and spend all day on Instagram and chalk it up to ‘working’!”

We like her style!

The fun starts on 1 October on Instagram. All details of how to play here or ask any questions in the comments below. Enjoy!

The Vignette Room is at 42 Gurner Street, Paddington, NSW 2021.

Why there’ll be no 7 Vignettes for July

The last few weeks, in my haze of new mum-ness, I became aware of a lot of discussion and debate happening on Instagram about what constitutes a vignette, whether standards had slipped in 7 Vignettes entries and whether every previous winner had stuck to the “rules”. I must admit I found it all a bit negative and took it personally (this Instagram challenge is another of my babies after all). Sleep deprivation will do that to you too. But do you know what? I’m kind of happy people care enough to have that debate!

Winning vignettes by Angela Steyn

Next week, when 7 Vignettes should start on 1 July, it’s my birthday, my bestie is here visiting from the UK and, after 2.5 years, I want a breather. I’m using this time out to invite you all to send in your suggestions for creating a set of guidelines for the competition going forward. And to tell me what you do/don’t like directly.

Winning vignettes by Mel Salaris

You can’t please all of the people all of the time. Not everyone will always agree with who is picked as the winner. And the judge’s choice will always be subjective. But if a set of guidelines makes people happy then let’s do this! And who better to contribute than the people who take part? So if you’re one of those who have voiced your opinion on Instagram, please voice it directly to me here or by email and let’s have some constructive feedback.

Above all though, let’s not lose sight of this being something fun, a place to ‘meet’ like-minded people and build each other up with encouragement, support and praise of each others efforts. The ‘real life’ events and meet-ups will also continue when baby Sebastian is a bit older.

7 Vignettes will be back on 1 August with the themes announced towards the end of July. I hope we can all come back refreshed, enthused and positive!

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
