Socially conscious new kitchen and homewares brand, We Are Cheeky, are on a mission to make the world a better place. Ahead of their launch in Woolworths this week, they’ve partnered with OzHarvest to help rescue food and donate meals to Australians in need.
Playful and wallet-friendly, as an added bonus, for every product purchased, We Are Cheeky will donate $0.10 to OzHarvest. They’re aiming to generate over 15,000 meals within the first month of hitting shelves!
The stylish range of over 60 kitchen and homewares products, includes an assortment of ceramics, bakeware, glassware and tableware. We love the quirky designs and metallic finishes – the “whip it good” whisk and “wine not?” glass are set to be new kitchen staples!
We Are Cheeky is also passionate about helping to reduce plastic waste, with minimal packaging being used across the entire range.
“We wanted to create a brand that can directly help the 3.6 million Australians who receive food relief every year whilst tapping into the distinctly Aussie culture and sense of humour,”says founder and CEO Lance Kalish (also behind the Yes To skincare and YOOBI stationery brands).
Socially and environmentally conscious as well as super affordable? We have a feeling this range will be finding its way into your trolley very soon!
Styling your home can get expensive, especially when you’re eyeing off a candle that’s triple digits and a lamp just shy of $1000 (and that’s on sale!). Here at Interiors Addict we believe some items are worthy of spending that extra bit of cash, but that doesn’t mean you can’t transform your home for less… and when we say less we don’t mean cheap knock-offs, but beautiful, original and affordable pieces by local and emerging designers. Below are our favourite homewares to revamp your home for under $100.
Country Road’s Aila Round Platter: I’m an absolute sucker for a pop of pastel colour when it comes to homewares! Crafted in stoneware with a glazed glossy interior, this platter in quartz (baby pink) is perfect for mixing and matching and playing with colour and form. Designed for everyday serving it retails for $44.95.
Wall Style’s Les Fleur #2: Soft in colour yet dramatic in appearance, this contemporary photographic image of a chrysanthemum makes a striking impact in any interior. Professionally printed with the finest quality inks on heavyweight archival paper, the small print (40cm x 40cm) retails for $89.95.
Design Twins’ Stripe Pot: Concrete homewares are having a major moment and the Design Twins have a lot to do with that! Their lightweight pot range is all the rage and for $90 you can get your hands on an extra small (28cm x 27cm) stripe pot. Black and white with a metallic twist, it is the ideal way to add some life and greenery to your home.
Amigos de Hoy’s Splash Mat Round: Digitally printed onto low pile soft chenille, the rugs are non slip, washable and non allergenic. The perfect small area mat, they are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms, indoors and out. Available in a variety of textured-looking patterns for $79, my personal fave has to be the Quill design.
West Elm’s Monte Mirrors: On special for $99.95 the plated brass mirrors bring shine and style to any room. Available in three shapes, pair them together or mix and match with other art for an instant gallery wall.
White Moose’s Sleeping Frenchie: Not allowed a pet? Then this may be the next best thing. This French Bulldog is the model companion, it doesn’t even require walks! Available in black and gold for $79, it was featured on The Block so you know it’s on trend.
Hunting For George’s Lola Clock: Currently half price at $89.50 (win!), this stylish and handmade bamboo clock is perfect for a Scandi-inspired home. Beautiful and minimalist in colour it comes in pastel lilac and yellow.
Beacon Lighting’s Raika 1 Light Table Lamp: I’ve been eyeing off this lamp for years and it’s finally below the $100 mark… just. Now for $99 (that’s a saving of $150!) you can get your hands on this beautiful piece designed by The Block’s Josh and Jenna. Made from a combination of cork, amber glass and woven cloth it gives off a natural, industrial look.
With bed linen, bath towels, cushions and throws, the Greg Natale Home range hit Myer Melbourne and Sydney stores recently and it’s a rather sumptuous affair replete with Greg’s signature geometrics and some interesting organic patterns too. We caught up with the designer to get the skinny on the collection.
“I did a cushion range last year and the next logical phase was to create bed linen. I’ve got a real passion for bed linen and I’ve always wanted to create a range,” says Greg who thinks the bed is often neglected in the interior styling game. “For me, when I create an interior it’s really about developing a very cohesive, finished look and the bed always finishes off a room. A lot of designers neglect the bed but I’ve always paid special attention to it as the bed really is the final layer.” Until now, he’s always relied on custom made linen to fill the gap.
While the inspiration for the range has its roots in the Greg Natale brand DNA (think strong, repeated geometric pattern), the collection features organic motifs too. “Obviously my geometrics feature but they’re broken up with organic pattern including malachite and the dot prints,” says Greg who cites the malachite print as his favourite from the new range. “I love the Malachite collection because the organic shapes are different for me. I also love the towels as I think my Astoria pattern translated well into towels.”
Ultimately, Greg sees cushions and bed linen as an easy way to layer colour, pattern and contrast in a room. “You can replace them or rearrange them without any fuss whenever you want a new look and it’s a real thrill to be able to finally share these collections. It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see how everyone styles them in their own home,” says Greg.
Greg Natale Home will be further released through Myer’s remaining five flagship stores in February 2017.
Wearing its Scandinavian, minimalist influences on its sleeve, Kmart’s May 2016 living collection is strong on texture, moody colours and striking geometrics, further cementing the store’s reputation as the go-to spot for designer-inspired pieces at ridiculously low prices.
“Our May living arrivals will continue to surprise and delight our customers. The stylish range of winter essentials showcases a natural look with simple clean lines and a few hints of monochrome, providing a nod to the current interiors trend,” says Kmart Australia’s head of home, Julie Miller-Sensini.
The latest collection includes a gorgeous grey and white ombre faux fur cushion ($12) and throw ($25), the Wellington faux sheepskin ($19 and available in white, pink or grey), a faux cow hide (a steal at $49!) plus a huge array of designer-look blankets. The geometric reversible throw ($20) and the Diamond and Scandi printed plush blankets are standouts. On the furniture front, the Eames-inspired rocking chair ($49) is a bargain buy for a nursery.
There are also flannelette sheet sets that are anything but dowdy – crisp white, blue and grey tones feature in on-trend patterns. Not forgetting practical, functional pieces entirely, the store also has your home heating requirements sorted this winter – from fan heaters to wall fan heaters, radiant, convection and oil heaters (all starting at only $15!) your toes will be toasty all season.
Kmart continues its reign on the wall décor/storage front too with the Strap wall shelf in white, marble-look and industrial finishes ($19), the wooden hexagonal mirror ($15) and the macramé wall hanging ($12) all worthy of your next Instagram post.
And while on the topic of social media, we expect to see Instagram’s legions of Kmart devotees get very excited about this range. Check it out here if it hasn’t already flooded your feed.
In news set to delight interior design fanatics (ie, you!) Kmart’s new homewares collection has just dropped and it’s a beauty.
Assorted canisters, $5 each
Featuring pale pastel shades, marble and warm wood accents plus concrete and geometric patterns, there is just so much to love. And that is before you even peruse the ridiculously low price tags.
“Our inspiration for this range was to create a clean, uncluttered Scandinavian feel that provides a fresh and seasonal update for Australian homes,” says Julie Miller-Sensini, Kmart’s divisional merchandise manager of living.
Lustro table lamp, $20
We are particularly fond of the collection’s colour scheme – the masculine concrete, marble and black accents are offset beautifully by the softest pinks and pale greys. We can’t wait to get our hands on the geometric canisters – at just $5, these are the perfect update for the kitchen bench.
Splice cushion, $10
“Our previous releases have received an incredible response from Australians and I’m delighted that this collection continues to raise the bar. At Kmart we are passionate about delivering on-trend homewares at irresistibly low prices,” says Julie Miller-Sensini, Kmart’s divisional merchandise manager of living.
Dipped bamboo salad bowls, $10 each
The perfect pit-stop for on-trend pieces that won’t break the bank, Kmart’s homewares offering just keeps gets better and better.
Like many, when sisters Renee McGrath and Natalie Muscatello had children, they desperately wanted to find a job that was flexible around motherhood. Unlike many, that job actually turned into their dream career.
Launching children’s decor label Toucan in 2014, Natalie, who has a background in retail and design, and Renee, in preschool teaching, combined both their skills to create an online shop full of art prints, bedding, garlands and rugs.
With the aim to create beautiful, modern spaces where children (and their dreams) can grow, the art prints are designed and printed by the sisterly duo, with all other products being sourced ethically with quality and longevity in mind. “It’s important to us that our designs are contemporary and generate positive energy,” explains Renee. “We want to give kids the opportunity to visualise their true potential.”
Specialising in prints, for the sisters, art has always been the most important part of a room. “Art brings such a beautiful energy to an interior,” says Natalie. “It provides a talking point, helps to frame the space and injects it with colour and creativity.”
With a large suite of art prints on offer, their capsule collection draws upon inspirational quotes, ensuring motivation is never more than a glance away. “Our timeless and charming art pieces will dress your walls with hope, inspiration, motivation and positive thoughts including: ‘Dream Big Little One,’ ‘From Little Things’ and ‘Good Vibes Only,’” explains Natalie. “For something a little sweeter (and without a quote), children will just love our favourite product, ‘Golide Ice-cream’ which is fun, colourful and makes us smile! Or alternatively, be wild and free with the ‘Flamingo Heart,’ ‘Water Coloured Deer,’ or ‘Love you more than I could Bear.'”
While they love their art, the sisters aren’t leaving the rest of the business behind. With Toucan on the upward trajectory, they have recently relocated to a larger space and have a whole range of new ideas in mind. “We’re about to have a creative explosion,” says Renee. “We have lots of fun, new designs in mind and are expanding our linen range to include a whole new suite of products for the nursery room.” Watch this space!
When I saw Kmart’s new living range in person, I have to admit I wanted everything. Not only is it bang on trend, it is also extremely affordable. I’m talking coffee tables for $29, quilt cover sets for $22 and pendant lights for $15. I legitimately felt like a kid in a candy store. And come Monday, so can you!
Arguably their best homewares collection to date, the key focus is on their enhanced outdoor entertaining range. Blurring the line between indoors and outdoors and creating that ‘fifth room’ of the home, many of Kmart’s new pieces — from their cushions and rugs to their armchairs and tables — are suitable for use indoors and out. “Aussies love to enjoy the outdoors and we put a lot of effort into making our interiors look great, so why not continue this trend outside?” explains Kmart’s head of home, Julie Miller-Sensini. “This season we have an extensive outdoor range that seamlessly blends with our indoor pieces; treating this fifth room as an extension of the indoor space keeps great style flowing.”
However, the interiors don’t miss out either, with the indoor range being divided into two trends: urban ambition and country industrial. Urban ambition is all about having fun with bold pieces and bright colours, taking inspiration from travel destinations such as Brazil and Mexico where prints and colour clash together beautifully. In contrast, country industrial was inspired by the rustic ambiance of a country home and is all about mixing pastels and florals with industrial materials to bring together a classic modern look.
With trends constantly changing, Kmart’s living collection is ideal for giving your home an affordable and seasonal update. But that being said, it’s not all about colour and pattern-crazy pieces, with Kmart providing plenty of staples. “Whilst we love creating high trend pieces for Australians we still believe in the basics,” says Julie. “Not everything needs to shout ‘look at me!’ Supporting items such as white dining settings and timeless glassware are just as important.”
Kmart’s new living range is available in store nationwide and online fromMonday 3 August.
