Adairs Kids launches collaboration with Fleur Harris

In what may be the most whimsical collaboration of Spring 2018, Adairs Kids has joined forces with the talented artist Fleur Harris to create a magical collection for little girls.

Fleur is a multi-disciplinary artist and creative from Melbourne. Educated in Fine Arts and armed with years of experience designing for fashion and lifestyle brands globally, her illustrations for Adairs Kids demonstrate her passion for design and her talent for illustration and painting.

“Inspired by the magic of childhood, adventure, imagination and my love for the natural world, I’ve weaved stunning birds, animals, orals and foliage into these beautiful artworks,” says Fleur. “This timeless collection will spark wonder and delight in the hearts and minds of both little and big people alike.”

The magical collection includes a beautiful printed sheet set and matching bedlinen with a contrasting print made from a soft textured cotton, both available in sizes cot to queen.

There are also two bespoke artworks in equally enchanted prints; dream and wish, and a gorgeously illustrated teepee in a natural coloured material with a vintage-inspired woodland print.

Our top 10 places to buy Australian bed linen online remains a firm fave!

You can’t get enough of Block judge Darren Palmer and this interview with him about living with pets and kids, which contains some fantastic advice if we don’t say so ourselves, is still top of the list!

Perhaps the high house prices are forcing you to look for alternative options for extra space, like a shipping container in your backyard?

Kids’ interiors products in general were popular this year, especially this roundup of places to buy Aussie kids’ linen online.

Our list of the top Sydney interior designers and their websites was much licked on, as was Kathryn Bamford’s guide to homewares shopping in Bali.

Continuing to prove you love a good roundup, you lapped up our top kitchen trends for 2015 from our friends at The Good Guys.

Unsurprisingly, Ilse Crawford’s hotly anticipated collection for IKEA was also in the most read this year.

Our Diary of a Reno video series from 2014, with Naomi Findlay who is now a resident expert for our sister site Reno Addict, is still getting plenty of views too!

And last but not least, you loved our interview with Josh & Charlotte’s builder Ben Purchase on what life on The Block is really like!

Rachel Castle’s reversible kids bedding

With her kids turning into teenagers, Rachel Castle couldn’t help but miss the once-daily ritual of tucking them into bed, reading to them and having a cuddle. So in an attempt to keep those memories alive she started designing kids bed linen. And seven years later she hasn’t stopped.

big-peach-heart-box-960

“It’s such a beautiful time for parents and I definitely miss it as mine get older. I guess this is what inspires me to keep making bed linen for the littles, I realise that time is so precious and it definitely doesn’t last.”

big-blue-heart-box2-960

Her latest bedding range of reversible quilts is made for kids stepping it up in the bed stakes, and what I mean by that is saying goodbye to the cot and hello to the grown up bed! “It’s an exciting time when the littles are big enough to sleep in a bed and parents are really keen to get the look right. Our new range of reversible quilts gives them big hearts for their first nights in a big bed, and then the option of a reverse pegboard spot for when they grow a little bigger and perhaps want a more grown up look. It’s really about the fun factor for kids too, being able to choose the hearts or the spots. As they get bigger they get so much more opinionated!”

With one quilt featuring peach hearts and fluro pink spots, and the other, blue hearts and charcoal spots, they can easily be mixed and matched with Rachel’s expansive range. “We ensure that everything in our range works together — velvets, linens, stripes, bananas, alphabets, the more mixed the better we reckon. Our new Shop The Look section on our website clearly shows what we think works best for the various ranges we sell.”

Not busy enough with a new bedding range, Rachel has also just released a collection of jumbo velvet floor cushions, which we absolutely love. If you’re not a fan of bean bags but love a big fluffy pouf for the floor, this is the one for you!

Non toxic kids bedding inspired by the magical world of Narnia

Inspired by the C.S. Lewis classic, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Little Yawn’s debut kids bedding collection aims to transform your little person’s room into a world of talking beavers, unicorns and magical battles (it’s times like these that I wish I was still a kid!).

littleyawn-1 (1)

“That book really encompasses everything that we are about: mythical worlds and crazy dreams,” explains co-founder Lynn Cheng. “We designed all the bedding ourselves. We worked both by hand (sketching) and digitally on each piece. Then these concepts were put together to see whether they worked cohesively together as a range. This was really important because we want people to be able to mix and match the bedding.”

littleyawn-3

However, while aesthetics are of great importance, what’s even more essential to Lynn and her business partner/sister Natalie Cheng, is that the bedding is toxin-free. “All of our children are highly allergic and it was difficult to find quality bed linen that was made in Australia, free of toxins and wasn’t plain and boring,” says Lynn. “All of Little Yawn’s products are certified by the Global Organic Textile standard (GOTS). The term organic gets thrown around a bit, but being GOTS certified means our bedding is the highest organic standard possible.”

littleyawn-1

With so many kids bedding options on the market, Little Yawn have managed to set themselves apart, thanks to their creativity and environmental awareness. “Each of our products is a unique piece of artwork created in our studio inspired by big crazy dreams and other worlds. Each item is hand screen printed and made in Melbourne on 100% organic certified cotton using non-toxic water based dyes. We are so proud to say we support local businesses and are an ethical company.”

The culmination of many years of wanting to work together, both sisters have hugely different backgrounds. With Lynn a lawyer turned fashion buyer and Natalia a designer and award-winning art director, their diverse skills have proved very complimentary. “We have wanted to work together for ages,” explains Lynn. “With Nat’s experience in design and my experience in production and buying we thought it was a match made in heaven! Finally the timing is right, well kind of. We just fit our work around our children’s nap times!”

KwithHeart: handmade for “bubs with serious spunk!”

With a motto to create products for: “bubs with serious spunk!” Karrie-Anne Vieceli of KwithHeart offers a range of quality wares including organic jersey swaddle blankets, organic muslin wraps, cot sheet sets, bibs, pillowcases and tees.

kwithheart interiors addict 1

Launched last year, shortly after having her first child, KwithHeart was born out of a desire to find something a bit different to the traditional baby colours and patterns. “There were very limited options around at the time I was pregnant,” explains Karrie-Anne. “So I decided to make them instead! I remember telling friends I was having a black and white nursery and their response was: “What the?!”. However the style turned out to be popular and it fit well with the other designs I had planned for my own bub. Friends started asking about buying my designs and as I love making and creating, I thought I’d share the love and launch KwithHeart.”

kwithheart interiors addict 3

Balancing her creative side with her ‘real’ day job in the corporate world, Karrie-Anne loves the opportunity to work in two very different professions. Designing and making all the products herself, she enjoys the art of creating, even if it means juggling two jobs and a toddler! “KwithHeart is essentially me! Though I recently employed the services of a local sewing expert, as this allows me more time to do the things I am more passionate about. Of course it really wouldn’t be possible without the support from my husband, family and friends.”

kwithheart interiors addict 2

With an ethos to make every product with absolute heart, Karrie-Anne does everything from the initial designs to distribution. “My swaddle blankets, wraps, bibs and cot sheet sets are hand stamped using lino block stamps. I design and hand carve the stamps myself, then I hand-paint them with non-toxic, water-based ink, and heat set each piece. Like most creatives, I have also branched out to do a few different things along the way, with hand painted custom pillowcases being one of them.”

With every item being gift-wrapped, with optional handmade gift cards, Karrie-Anne hopes to make buying gifts that much easier. With a style that is bold, makes a statement and packs a punch, KwithHeart wares are a perfect addition to any kid’s room.

Also 100% cotton, the Blanky fits a standard cot generously and a single bed perfectly, so it can last well into your newborn’s school years.
