Karina Jambrak’s new linen collection inspired by Australian winter

Drawing is second nature to Sydney-based designer and artist Karina Jambrak. She first started selling the art she created as a high school student in 2001, at the famous Bondi Beach Markets.

Her career as an independent artist began in 2018, when she was made redundant from her dream job as a graphic designer, right after her husband had undergone open heart surgery. Needing to provide for her family, she decided to turn her passion into a full-time career and start her own small business.

Karina’s art is hand-drawn using copic markers, and predominantly uses soft, pastel colour palette. She draws inspiration from Australian landscapes and flora, as well as other parts of the world.

After the success of the first range, Karina has collaborated with Adairs to release a new range of homewares. The collection evokes imagery of dusky, winter foliage, and is sure to lend a sense of serenity to the rooms in which they are placed.

“I want everyone to see the beauty that the winter can bring to the Australian landscape, and how we can bring that beauty into our indoor spaces,” Karina explains, speaking of her inspiration for the collection.

The pastel-hued designs are printed on an array of items, including organic cotton linen, dinner and serving ware, towels, and décor items.

“I am so excited that Adairs asked me to design a second range for them after the success of the first,” Karina says. “Seeing my work come to life on everyday items has been such a dream and I am so proud with how this second collection came out.”

Karina has also designed a playful, jungle inspired collection for Adairs Kids. It features tangerine tones that are sure to ignite the imagination. Delightful hand-drawn images embellish the items, with fun African animals parading amongst greenery similar to that of the main collection.

IKEA kids: new ranges explore endangered wildlife

IKEA Australia have launched two new kid’s collections with a difference – DJUNGELSKOG and URSKOG are inspired by our planet’s endangered wild animals and carry an important message about sustainability.

Available now in all stores, the jungle-themed collections feature some of the world’s most beloved beasts including, lions, tigers, pandas and elephants. The new range encompasses soft toys, educational picture books and textiles including rugs, duvet covers, curtains, cushions and towels all with IKEA’s notoriously affordable price-tag.

Developed using sustainable materials and production methods, the ranges mark IKEA’s new approach to promoting wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.

“We want to shed light on the wild animals which fascinate us so much, yet face extinction in their natural habitat,” explains IKEA Australia children’s range expert Rob Young. “Our aim is to educate and inspire younger generations to be environmentally aware at an early age by helping to bring them closer to wildlife and our planet through the products they use every day.”

The DJUNGELSKOG range (which literally means “jungle forest”) was designed with younger children aged three to seven in mind, while URSKOG uses bolder imagery on quilts and cushions and is aimed at tweens.

Jen attended the launch of the ranges at Taronga Zoo with Sebastian last week. He definitely gave them his tick of approval!

To celebrate the launch of the new jungle collections, IKEA Australia is offering a family the chance to experience Sydney’s ultimate sleepover at Roar and Snore at Taronga Zoo. The prize includes flights, accommodation and a one night stay at Roar and Snore for a family of four. Head to the IKEA Australia Facebook page to enter.

Kip & Co x Animalia’s fun collaboration + win!

They were the diabolically delicious drawings that inspired a generation, and now, the 1986 book Animalia, is being brought back to life in a colourful collection of kids and baby bedding and accessories.

You could win a signed copy of Animalia and a unicorns and umbrellas pea cushion (pictured top left)

Joining forces with Australian label Kip & Co, Animalia was a childhood favourite for the girls behind the brand. “We were all read Animalia as little tikes and loved getting lost in the magical drawings night after night,” says co-founder Kate Heppell. “It’s a tradition we’ve passed on to our kids and now it is one of their absolute favourites.”

Written and illustrated by Melbourne’s Graeme Base, Animalia is more than just an alphabet book, it’s a fantastical alliterative journey through the animal kingdom. Striking a chord the world over, it reached number five on the New York Times bestseller list and featured in a 40-foot billboard on Sunset Boulevard. “Animalia is a book for everyone,” explains Graeme. “It was never intended for any particular age and I think that’s why it still has such a strong connection with so many.”

Over 30 years later and Graeme‘s zany zig-zagging zesty tale is still well and truly alive, but this time in bedding and homewares! The collection includes kids and baby bedding, cushions. sleepwear, play mats, swaddles and wicked santa sacks. And don’t worry, the prints are just as wild as the book! Think enormous elephants expertly eating easter eggs, great green gorillas growing grapes in a gorgeous glass greenhouse and lazy lions lounging in the local library. Let your imagination run free!

For your chance of winning one of three sets of a signed copy of Animalia and a unicorn cushion, please complete the form below by 5pm AEST next Tuesday 21 November.

Dragons and donuts: Sack Me!’s new mythical range

The go-to designer for tiny tots and kids at heart, Sack Me! have added more beautiful (and ridiculously comfortable) bedding and accessories to their overflowing range.

The new prints and and products include an expansion of last year’s festive range, just in time for Christmas. “We sold so well last year we decided to bring back our best selling patterns and introduce some new ones,” explains Sack Me! designer Li-Ann Scott. “We didn’t want to introduce overly ‘Christmas-y’ prints as we encourage our customers to re-use the swag sacks post Christmas. They are perfect for storing toys! We also have Christmas stockings perfect for little stocking fillers.”

On the less festive side of things, Sack Me! have introduced a new toddler size slumber sack, following countless requests for a mini version for daycare, as well as an expanded range of floor cushions, playmats and beanbags.

Available in many prints, the favourite has to be the new Dunkin Dragon, which comes in all bedding sizes (from cot to king), play mats and slumber sacks. “I love this print,” says Li-Ann. “A world where dragons eat donuts and live happily ever after, what can be better than that? Plus the versatility of the navy stripe reverse print, which you can mix and match for boys and even for girls, is magic!”

Inspired by mythical animals, the print encourages children to pursue their imagination in the kingdom of unicorns and dragons. “It’s such a magical place to escape to,” explains Li-Ann. “A place where you can just let your imaginations run wild!”

Rachel Castle’s reversible kids bedding

With her kids turning into teenagers, Rachel Castle couldn’t help but miss the once-daily ritual of tucking them into bed, reading to them and having a cuddle. So in an attempt to keep those memories alive she started designing kids bed linen. And seven years later she hasn’t stopped.

big-peach-heart-box-960

“It’s such a beautiful time for parents and I definitely miss it as mine get older. I guess this is what inspires me to keep making bed linen for the littles, I realise that time is so precious and it definitely doesn’t last.”

big-blue-heart-box2-960

big-blue-heart-box-960

Her latest bedding range of reversible quilts is made for kids stepping it up in the bed stakes, and what I mean by that is saying goodbye to the cot and hello to the grown up bed! “It’s an exciting time when the littles are big enough to sleep in a bed and parents are really keen to get the look right. Our new range of reversible quilts gives them big hearts for their first nights in a big bed, and then the option of a reverse pegboard spot for when they grow a little bigger and perhaps want a more grown up look. It’s really about the fun factor for kids too, being able to choose the hearts or the spots. As they get bigger they get so much more opinionated!”

big-peach-heart-box2-960

With one quilt featuring peach hearts and fluro pink spots, and the other, blue hearts and charcoal spots, they can easily be mixed and matched with Rachel’s expansive range. “We ensure that everything in our range works together — velvets, linens, stripes, bananas, alphabets, the more mixed the better we reckon. Our new Shop The Look section on our website clearly shows what we think works best for the various ranges we sell.”

FB_CastleOttoman_hero_1440

Not busy enough with a new bedding range, Rachel has also just released a collection of jumbo velvet floor cushions, which we absolutely love. If you’re not a fan of bean bags but love a big fluffy pouf for the floor, this is the one for you!

Arro Home’s debut kids collection is bold, colourful and fun

With a diverse range of adult homewares it was only going to be a matter of time before Arro Home expanded into kids wares.

arro home interiors addict1

“We just couldn’t resist,” explains designer Alice Oehr. “We had a lot of ideas of things for children and we always wanted Arro Home to be available to the whole family.”

Launching their debut kids bedding collection 10 November, true to Arro Home’s distinctive style, it’s all about bold colours, creative prints and tactile fabrics. “It’s so much fun designing things for kids. You can tell a story with the product in a different way to an adult collection. You can go a little crazy with the colours and patterns and it allowed us to re-live some of our own childhood favourite things.”

arro home interiors addict 2

Entitled In the Sky, as the name suggest, the range is inspired by everything from up above. Deep dark space, vibrant colours of the solar system, sparkly constellations, fluffy clouds and a smiling sun and moon.

arro home interiors addict 3

Kicking off with two prints, Cloud Nine and Astro, it is featured across doona covers, pillow cases, and cushions. To pair with the prints is Constellation — a simple grey and white sheet set — four new cushions and a knitted cotton blanket.

Soft and simple, it is sure to inspire kids at play and (hopefully) settle them into slumber!

New Spring/Summer bedding range from The Bedroom Society

Boutique bedding label, The Bedroom Society, has returned with a more expansive offering this season, in the form of a Spring/Summer 2015 capsule collection of pure linen and cotton bedding and accessories in shades of charcoal, mint, peach and white.

The Bedroom society 1

“It’s a big step up as I have expanded the range so there’s printed sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases,” says designer, Lauren Roe of the collection that is designed to be both trans-seasonal and mixed and matched.

“I’ve focussed on a colour theme of charcoal, mint, peach and white and I really love how it’s all come together. I love to blend different patterns, colours and fabrics together for the overall look,” says Lauren.

The Bedroom society 4

The range features screen-printed designs in cute and classic polka dots, herringbone and diamond patterns with a classic touch. In particular, the 100 per cent French flax linen sheets and duvet covers are ultra luxe.

The Bedroom society 7

“The reversible pom pom coverlets are quite special as they’re stitched by hand, each pom pom is custom made and both sides of the coverlet are a different colour for contrast,” says Lauren of the range’s standout piece. It took almost six months of sampling before an artisan was chosen to create each coverlet by hand. As a bonus, they’re the perfect weight for use all year round.

The Bedroom society 10

“I really hope my customers join me on this design journey – I’ve moved past the bright and fun troppo prints of the past,” says Lauren of the more sophisticated collection. “I feel like my personality is truly reflected in this range and I hope my customers will invest in prints that are more classic and will last longer trend-wise. The pieces provide the perfect base to add new cushions or pillow cases each season,” says Lauren.

Goosebumps’ hotly anticipated bedding range for adults!

When Goosebumps released their first children’s bedding collection late last year, I must say I was a little jealous. Where was all the colourful, pattern-crazy, adult designs?!

Tutti Frutti

Well thankfully, they’re nearly here; with Goosebumps set to release their debut adult collection, Down Yonder. “We’re entering a new category and we’re thrilled to be launching a fun take on adult bedding,” explains founder Inga Rodd. “Why should kids have all the fun?”

Dusk till Dawn

Taking a trip down memory lane, each print recalls a vibrant memory from Inga’s childhood. With the adult range consisting of two reversible quilt covers (Dusk till Dawn and Tutti Frutti) and a selection of printed flat and fitted sheets, each design has a personality of its own, which is sure to evoke a great sense of nostalgia. “Dusk till Dawn was inspired by summer nights and the sight of the horizonilluminated by magical pink hues from the St Kilda Marina. And Tutti Frutti reminds me of my favorite outfit as a child. It’s reminiscent of ’90s pop fashion, but cooler.”

Gingerbread Girl

Lucky for the kids, they don’t miss out either, with the children’s collection also including two reversible quilt covers (Snakes and Ladders and Gingerbread Girl) and printed flat, fitted and cot sheets. Inspiration flows from classic board games like Snakes and Ladders to the prettiest, girliest Gingerbread Girl.

Having established themselves as a coveted boutique bedding brand, Down Yonder continues with Goosebumps’ colourful palette and unique separates, allowing the playful designs to be mixed and matched, creating a sense of fun and adventure in every bedroom. With printed fitted and flat sheets and their unique reversible quilt covers, you’re covered from cot to king size beds. Now the big kids will have somewhere to play!

Non toxic kids bedding inspired by the magical world of Narnia

Inspired by the C.S. Lewis classic, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Little Yawn’s debut kids bedding collection aims to transform your little person’s room into a world of talking beavers, unicorns and magical battles (it’s times like these that I wish I was still a kid!).

littleyawn-1 (1)

“That book really encompasses everything that we are about: mythical worlds and crazy dreams,” explains co-founder Lynn Cheng. “We designed all the bedding ourselves. We worked both by hand (sketching) and digitally on each piece. Then these concepts were put together to see whether they worked cohesively together as a range. This was really important because we want people to be able to mix and match the bedding.”

littleyawn-3

However, while aesthetics are of great importance, what’s even more essential to Lynn and her business partner/sister Natalie Cheng, is that the bedding is toxin-free. “All of our children are highly allergic and it was difficult to find quality bed linen that was made in Australia, free of toxins and wasn’t plain and boring,” says Lynn. “All of Little Yawn’s products are certified by the Global Organic Textile standard (GOTS). The term organic gets thrown around a bit, but being GOTS certified means our bedding is the highest organic standard possible.”

littleyawn-1

With so many kids bedding options on the market, Little Yawn have managed to set themselves apart, thanks to their creativity and environmental awareness. “Each of our products is a unique piece of artwork created in our studio inspired by big crazy dreams and other worlds. Each item is hand screen printed and made in Melbourne on 100% organic certified cotton using non-toxic water based dyes. We are so proud to say we support local businesses and are an ethical company.”

littleyawn-6

The culmination of many years of wanting to work together, both sisters have hugely different backgrounds. With Lynn a lawyer turned fashion buyer and Natalia a designer and award-winning art director, their diverse skills have proved very complimentary. “We have wanted to work together for ages,” explains Lynn. “With Nat’s experience in design and my experience in production and buying we thought it was a match made in heaven! Finally the timing is right, well kind of. We just fit our work around our children’s nap times!”

Little Yawn launches today! Visit their online store now and start shopping.

Kip & Co’s AW15 collection: bedding, sleepwear, kids and babies ranges …and more!

Ever since I got my hot little hands on Kip & Co’s Autumn Winter 2015 HIBERNATE lookbook, I’ve been counting down the days until I could share it all with you; and I’ve got to say, you will not be disappointed!

H_jPocbD1XTQ0PV1zXs2LXC_OIwX5iS9aLyUiBMeT_k

“I know you can’t have a favourite child but we seriously love this range so much it might just be our favourite yet,” explains Kip & Co co-founder Alex van der Sluys. “I think that’s partly because we are so excited with all our new categories! We have done our first foray into lounge and sleepwear for adults and kids, bringing our bold, signature prints to KIP BODY; we’ve also extended our KIP TINY range with baby nap wraps, swanky blankys and play mats; our rugs are back with a vengeance; and we’ve got new corduroy bedding and beanbags!”

2iWA9daS9lINIlZpzThSJbih6VYMf7_WiKPFUEtmowo

Gudbk0IYNrl1Oqx5Y0QRPPbl8uXeY3_3F7tGmEa103o

As always, HIBERNATE, which is available to pre-order from today, is not about following trends. Inspired by the everyday — friends, family and the world around us — Alex and co-owners Hayley Pannekoecke and Kate Heppell have a list of print and product ideas so long, they think they’d have enough to last them 40 years!

However, lucky for us, they’ve managed to fit a fair few of them into this collection. “We’ve gone all out with our AW15 range because if we’ve got to stay indoors all winter, we’re about making that as fun an experience as possible! AW15 is our most comprehensive to date, with a big emphasis on bold prints, warm wintery textures, design edge and comfort.”

MnERr7nlfJc14Iw-iWqW492P3d1Lpi7xH3bQVB2fgGQ

Q-2WkhxJa2JMl4SSAG9L4neF-2yW2VShZo0-CFaLRNU

Designing bedding oh so well, this season the girls decided to launch lounge and sleepwear too, believing there was a real gap in the market for PJs that are comfortable and cool. “We spent ages finding the right fabric — it’s crazy soft, 100% cotton jersey, so most importantly it feels great. With the addition of our signature Kip & Co prints and bold colours, we’ve created something really unique that we hope people will love as much as we do!”

wPYooIZqRWPCt_LL2Er9uXKvjNrOeLMu8hJ1NhFmi2M

Growing their TINY range was also a natural progression, thanks to their cot sheets being received extremely well last year. “That response really confirmed for us what we already knew: that there is a really big appetite out there for baby gear that has an edgy designer element to it. It doesn’t need to be all white, pink or blue! So by popular demand, we’ve expanded into 100% bamboo nap wraps to swaddle your little tikes, 100% bamboo swanky blankys and play mats, in addition to our expanded cot sheet range!”

jmJf0Qb3bkwV8XMH-HylnZY3Nckqlkxq_lZfl63t2wU

With such an extensive collection it’s hard to pick a favourite, so rather than decide, I asked Alex to! “I actually am loving the rugs – they’re so poppy, textural and fun. I think it’s so hard to find an affordable designer blanket these days and I am really chuffed that we have been able to offer something so special. I’ve already marked one down for me!”

Country Road Home Autumn Winter 2015 collection

I love everything that Country Road have to offer and their new Home Autumn Winter 2015 collection doesn’t disappoint!

country road home interiors addict 1

Offer modern updates for the home, the collection is simple yet sophisticated, with clean lines and graphic texture.

For the first time, they have added 100% linen to their bed linen collection, with soft pink and grey paired with yarn dyed stripes and gingham. Children’s linen also gets an update with fresh florals, gingham checks, star blankets and sweet knitted accessories for the girls and flannel checks in blues, pops of patchwork and a bear motif cushion for the boys.

country road home interiors addict

The decorator range is all about understated luxury with rich textures and muted colours. A palette of pink, nude and black plays off rich marble and timber. Candles, mirrors, votives and frames are highlighted with hints of copper, plated gold and smoked glass. Pared back pieces like a marble clock and side tables in oak and black bring an easy sophistication.

country road home interiors addict 2

Serving is expanded with the introduction of baking dishes and ramekins. Oversized salt and pepper grinders and stacked wooden boards play on scale and proportion. A circular marble board makes a bold graphic base for the Tapas dining range, updated in blue-grey and lemon yellow tones.

Cushions and throws are textural with bold geometric prints and tactile fabrications. Mohair cushions are perfect for lounging and add a luxe feel to winter simplicity. Monochrome shades are complemented by strong cobalt blues, yellows, gem greens and pinks. Throws are tweedy and textural and bring modern comfort to the home.

Australian kids room ideas: with Talo Interiors

Knee deep in nappies with their second babies, Katie Davies and Eliza Prideaux were inspired to start their e-boutique, Talo Interiors. New babies and a new business? These girls sure aren’t shy of a challenge!

Talo Interiors Addict

“We were having trouble finding beautiful interiors for our own kids’ bedrooms,” explains Eliza. “There are so many amazing designers from all over the world and we wanted to curate all the things we loved in the one place.”

Talo Interiors Addict 3

Launched in late 2013, the online shop specialises in unique, designer products for kids bedrooms and playrooms. Sourced from a combination of trade fairs, social media, trawling online and designers approaching them, they all fit the Talo Interiors style of minimalism, natural materials, a splash of colour and high quality designs.

Talo Interiors Addict 1

Late last year, Talo Interiors also released their first range of products designed by them; a line of quilt sets created in collaboration with Melbourne artist Pip Compton. “We never anticipated just how much time is involved in this process,” says Eliza. “It was long and filled with lots of new learnings, but it was all worth it in the end because we’re delighted with the result!”

Coming in beautiful greys and yellows, the quilts, like most of the Talo Interiors’ products, are in line with the current trends in kids rooms. “The biggest trends we are seeing right now are monochrome – anything black and white. A splash of metallic – think gold, silver, copper. Anything and everything superhero. And beautiful pastel colours – particularly mints and dusty pinks.”

Talo Interiors Addict 2

With prices starting from as low as $15, getting on-trend pieces doesn’t have to blow the budget. Just remember to keep it simple, have a minimal amount of furniture and have those key pieces in neutral colours. “You don’t need a lot of pieces to create a beautiful room,” explains Eliza. “Key furniture items and bedding should be in neutral colours, then add personality to your room using wall stickers, prints and cushions. These are easy and affordable ways to give your room a fresh new look. Goosebumps: vibrant, bold kids’ linen that packs a punch

“What I like most about designing for kids is that there are no rules,” explains Inga Rodd, founder of new bedding brand, Goosebumps. “Kids love fun and colour and that is what Goosebumps is all about!”

Looking at her debut range, It’s A Jungle Out There, it’s clear to see that fun and colour are at the forefront of Inga’s designs. Vibrant, bold and packing a punch, all products are unisex, reversible and sold as separates, an important decision that allows for the kids to become the designers. “I wanted to create a fun bedroom experience for kids where they could mix and match any pieces to create their own style, individuality and personality,” says Inga. “It’s about breaking all the rules and mixing and switching it up to create a wild and wonderful experience for your little monkeys.”

Having kids herself, Inga has spent the last three years staying at home looking after her twin boys. Yet with a background in retail, wholesale and fashion and a keen eye for design and colour, her mind soon began ticking, with the idea of Goosebumps reaching fruition earlier this year.

Now with her Spring/Summer debut range receiving such great reviews, Inga has gone straight back to creating, having just completed designing her next collection, which excitingly will also include an adults range. “Hopefully the big people will now get a chance to play with colour in their bedrooms,” explains Inga. “We’ve had such a great response from all our customers that it felt like a natural progression to move into adults bedding.”

With a release date set for early next year, the future looks bright for Goosebumps and I can’t wait to get a first glimpse of the adults range. Watch this space!

Too cute baby cot bedding from Rachel Castle

This baby cot bedding from Castle is just a bit too cute isn’t it?!

BLUE COT BED GALLERY

With three different styles, the fitted and flat sheets come in charcoal spots for boys, fluro pink spots for girls and sweet little yellow hearts if it’s too early to tell. Hotel grade 5-star, made from 100% cotton with 280 thread count, the range is made even prettier with the addition of the blue and charcoal or pink and orange Blanky. Also 100% cotton, the Blanky fits a standard cot generously and a single bed perfectly, so it can last well into your newborn’s school years.

PINK PEGBOARD COT GALLERY

Lovers of all things colourful and whimsical, bed linen is handprinted in Australia by Rachel Castle. She also designs bed linen for adults, as well as artwork and other homewares, so both you and your newborn can sleep in style.

Fun, stylish and gender-neutral kids’ bedding from Sack Me!

I just love bedding. Yet I must admit I always find myself envying the kids’ collections, and the debut from Sack Me! is no exception.

Designed by former architect turned graphic designer Li-Ann Scott, the debut range, Haute Bites, features a food theme to bring about that friendly familiarity to kids and kids-at-heart. “Taking a cue from my family’s live to eat motto, our debut range features a quirky take on a gastro-art theme,” says Li-Ann. “The designs just evolved organically from our day-to-day adventures, seeing the world through my children’s eyes, as well as conveying a positive message in a fun way which children can relate to.”

The idea for Sack Me! came about when Li-Ann was on the hunt for kids’ bed linen which was gender neutral and stylish, but spoke the language children speak. Struggling to find something that fit that brief, she took on the challenge herself, creating a collection that includes fitted sheets for cots, single and king single beds, reversible quilt covers in single and double sizes, pillowcases and cushions to match.

The entire range is Oeko-Tex certified, made from 300 thread-count, 100% cotton sateen and free from harmful substances. With prices starting from $35 for cushions and $49 for fitted cot sheets, this bedding won’t break the budget!
