The Interiors Addict job board is now FREE to advertise on

This week we’ve implemented a change we’ve been thinking about for a long time. We have removed the facility for those looking for work to post their resumes and at the same time made it free for employers to advertise vacancies.

We have always been inundated with listings from candidates looking for work, which we allowed for free as our way of supporting those looking to break into the industry. And let’s face it, it’s not an easy one to get into. But we feel these listings were not actually that beneficial as there were so many, it wasn’t long before the latest people dropped off the front page of the board. There was also no way for employers to search these listings in a helpful way and developing that kind of system fell to the bottom of our long to-do list!

We still want to help people break into interiors though, and we’re not looking to make money out of doing so, so we’ve come up with the following solution. It is now free, forever, for employers to post job ads on Interiors Addict. We will share the latest vacancies in our newsletter each week. We hope, and are confident, that this will lead to us becoming the go-to place to find entry level interiors jobs in Australia, although we are not restricting the board to entry level, intern and assistant roles.

If you’re an employer you can list any job that falls within the interiors/homewares/styling/design/photography realm free of charge. Our advertisers tell us they get a fantastic response and calibre of applicant from us. Now we hope to offer these job seekers more jobs to apply for.

So what are you waiting for? Post a free job ad.

If you haven’t already, sign up to our newsletter to receive the latest job vacancies.

All we ask is that you let us know when your position is filled so we can remove your ad.

Flooring can make such an impact but it’s also a bit of a commitment and you want to make the right choice which will see you through a few years. Whether it’s family-friendly and practical, luxurious and comfortable, the healthiest choice for your child with asthma, something which can withstand dogs racing around on it or the affordable and neutral choice for a rental property, the options can sometimes seem a little overwhelming. Rather than put off making a decision yet again, this magazine is here to help inspire and guide you!

In my opinion, getting a new floor in your home or getting it painted are two of the most exciting and impactful updates for adding wow factor. Whether you’re a fan of timber, laminate, bamboo, luxury vinyl, carpet, tiles or rugs, Choices Flooring are sure to have what you’ve been searching for!

How to create a home bar with The Design Twins

It’s lovely to be able to entertain friends and have a nice drink at home, but when your bar situation consists of a mini fridge and some disposable cups, well you probably won’t be having your friends round for many more visits!

The Design Twins
The Design Twins

To make entertaining this summer that little more glamorous, creative duo, The Design Twins have teamed up with Woodford Reserve to show how simple and easy it is to create a stylish home bar with an essential drinks offering. All you need is a few hours, DIY enthusiasm and some timber pallets.

976EE99C-5A1A-4B10-BAF0-D3B12A19D909

Tools required: Drill, saw, hammer, clamps, tape measure, sander, jigsaw and 60mm screws

Materials required: Timber pallets, structural pine (4 x pieces high, 4 x pieces long, 4 x pieces wide), marine ply and washed sand.

Step 1: Use the hammer to remove the palings of wood from the pallets

Step 2: Remove the nails from the wood using the hammer

Step 3: Sand down one side of the palings

Step 4: Build a rectangular box frame using the structural pine and simply screw together

Step 5: Fix the palings to the box frame of the bar, from one side to the other with the sanded side facing out.

Step 6: To make the top of the bar, ensure there is a 200mm overhang over the front and sides of the bar. Once in place it can be screwed in and puttied over. Apply two thin coats of concrete by hand. Mix water with washed sand in a 3:1 ratio. Add water until you have a yoghurt like consistency. Allow two hours drying time in between each layer.

Get Interiors Addict’s free eBook: 10 tips to fall back in love with your home

All you have to do is sign up to our newsletter to get this brand new, free download.

Top-10-lockup-GREY

I was inspired to write this eBook after moving house four months ago. Pregnant, hormonal, tired and already starting to get the nesting instinct (and I’m already a neat freak and perfectionist at the best of times!) I started really hating on our new home for it not being perfect. I was whingeing a lot and even I started to get a bit over myself!

So, I put together ten great ways to fall back in love with your home and also, to get some perspective on not having to live in a show home and being realistic, about realising what is really important about how you feel in your space and how your space makes you feel.

I hope you get something out of it! Slowly but surely I’m getting there with our new place by following some of my own advice!

Darren at home, as seen on Interiors Addict

Register quick for this one as places are limited and we expect it to be popular!

I’ll be interviewing Darren about his book, Easy Luxury, The Block, and his design work. Then we’ll set you loose on the store to style, arrange and rearrange to your heart’s content. You can photograph and share your vignettes on Instagram with one person taking home a prize on the night.

There’ll also be refreshments by Williams-Sonoma, drinks, a chance to meet fellow interiors addicts and, if you’re interested, yours truly! And you can buy and get your copy of Easy Luxury signed by Darren too.

We respectfully ask that you’re sure you can attend before you register as last minute cancellations result in wasted spaces which could have been offered to someone else. Sadly, people often let us know when it is too late to offer their place to someone on the wait list.

When: 7-9pm, Wednesday 19 November 2014

Where: West Elm, The Exchange Building, 472 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction, Sydney 2022.

The $55 appliance that helps you make guilt-free ‘ice cream’

It may be winter in Australia, but that doesn’t mean you suddenly stop wanting ice cream, am I right? At the same time, if you’re into the latest paleo/no sugar kind of diet, you may be avoiding processed nasties. So, what if I told you could make guilt-free ice cream at home, really easily? The only catch is you have to like bananas!

Cherry and banana Yonanas
Cherry and banana Yonanas

The last gadget I tried out before setting off on my travels was Yonanas and I loved it so much, it is sure to become a regular feature on my kitchen bench when I get home. Its technology and high-torque blade emulsify frozen fruit into a healthy treat that looks, tastes, and feels like soft-serve ice cream—in just seconds. Unlike other dessert makers, you don’t have to add any other ingredients such as milk, cream, sugar, yogurt or soy—which makes it perfect for vegans, diabetics and those who are lactose intolerant (which seems to be a lot of people these days).

While you can chuck any fruit through this machine, if you want a creamy, ice cream-like texture, you really do need to include bananas. What’s more, it works best with overripe bananas (the ones you end up chucking out when they get too brown and spotty) which will no longer be wasted. When you have those sad looking brown bananas in your fruit bowl, simply peel and freeze them to use in your Yonanas later. You basically chop them up and force them through the machine, a bit like pushing fruit and veg through a juicer. It’s amazing how frozen bananas alone come out tasting so good and so similar to the consistency of ice cream. I bet you could trick your children!

The machine comes with a great book of recipes. I tried adding both peanut butter (not that great) and dark chocolate (yum!) to my bananas, but to be honest, the frozen bananas alone were so satisfying I didn’t feel the need to add any extras, plus it’s healthier that way.

My husband Damian wasn’t as convinced, but let’s just say I have healthier tastebuds than he does and he’d rather have the processed, artificially flavoured version of most things (it’s a constant battle…). It wasn’t that he didn’t like the end result, but just refused to believe my claims that it really was just like ice cream!

I found it really easy to use and loved that it was dishwasher safe. The only downside was the noise. It’s not quiet!

Since I checked out the appliance ($55), they’ve released a new, snazzier version called Yonanas Elite ($165). The original machine got a makeover with sleek new design elements and a quieter and more powerful motor. Available in glossy red or black.

Yonanas is available online or from The General Trader, Harvey Norman and David Jones.
