Join Jen at the 2019 National Home Staging Symposium!

There’s no doubt that property staging has come a long way in terms of credibility and popularity. The concept wasn’t even that widely accepted a decade ago and now, I don’t think many people could imagine selling a home without it! And whether you’re a property stylist, run your own home staging business or just love property and real estate, Sydney’s upcoming National Home Staging Symposium could be just thing for you. And if you needed another reason to attend, our very own Jen will be presenting!

“If you really want to take your home staging career to another level, then this is the ideal next step. Remember, not only will it get you access to brand new content and speakers and an awesome network of likeminded people, but it will also give you the momentum you need to achieve significant progress in your home staging career,” says its organiser, our resident expert Naomi Finday. The event presents an opportunity to learn from some of Australia’s most successful property stylists alongside business and marketing experts.

“You can learn from online businesses, marketing and finance people, interior designers, mindset experts and take action in our interactive workshops and connect with our likeminded tribe. It’s an experience you just can’t get anywhere else!” says Naomi.

And while there’s plenty on the weekend’s agenda, here’s just a taste of the things you can expect to learn:

  • How to stage for the Australian real estate market as well as how to develop relationships with real estate agents.
  • How to successfully run an online business as part of a bricks and mortar one, as well as how to expand your client base.
  • How to establish your target market.
  • How to build your own team of stylists, labourers, real estate agents and trades.
  • Social media: Which sites you should be using to directly reach your audience.
  • Styling trends: Which ones to use and which ones to avoid.

Melbourne trade show celebrates boutique lifestyle brands

Running from 3 – 5 August in Melbourne’s Kensington, Rogue Lifestyle is a three-day trade event showcasing over 40 Australian lifestyle and kids brands. With exhibitors including Pony Rider, Ahoy Trader, Bobo Choses and Sack Me, the boutique event will also feature local food and coffee vendors as well as live music.

It’s been brought to life by Emma Patterson, designer of kid’s homewares brand Homely Creatures, who wanted to showcase her wares in a way that didn’t cost the earth.

“We are a small industry and we love to connect with each other – not just brands to buyers, but brands to brands as well,” says Emma. “We’re going back to why we all started going to trade shows in the first place: to connect, get inspired, make quality collaborations happen, and get real value.

“Australia has so many great brands, but many of them have taken to showing in their own studios or hotels, making it really hard for buyers to visit everyone they want to see. It’s also stressful for them to all have to become event coordinators and deal with the time and monetary costs associated with creating your own mini show, which may not pull the crowds.”

This year, Rogue Lifestyle has teamed up with students from Jenna Densten’s (of The Block’s Josh and Jenna) Design School. They’ll be co-ordinating live flatlay installations and interior shoots using the products from the event’s own line-up.

“The dynamism of the Australian creative community is constantly evolving. I can’t wait to get back to Australia to bring to life our next series of events, sharing the stories of an even more diverse group of leading creative spirits and established and emerging business leaders across a broad swath of industries,” says Vanessa whose career includes stints as creative director at west elm and Donna Hay magazine and as the editor in chief at Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings.

“It’s been a real thrill to see our first two events in Sydney and New York bring together a tribe of the world’s leading artists, makers and creative minds and propel them forward in new projects and collaborations. It’s been humbling and inspiring to shape an empowering space for attendees to discover the next opportunity and fuel their journey toward their dreams, especially at this moment of global instability and uncertainty,” says Vanessa.

Sydney event celebrates local furniture, homewares & food

Running from 3-5 June in Sydney’s Waterloo, Factory Design District is a three-day celebration of Australian designed and manufactured furniture, homewares and food and it’s a great chance to meet the makers too. From furniture to textiles, jewellery, food, wine and beer, the new event focusses on authentic, original, locally made, environmentally sustainable design and will feature exclusive talks, events, demos and dining from a broad range of exhibitors including Dinosaur Designs, Mud Australia, Bloodwood and ILANEL.

Dinosaur_Designs_Black_Marble_Hugh_Stewart_Homewares_Jewellery_Black_Brass

Dinosaur Designs

One of Australia’s biggest design success stories, Dinosaur Designs truly exemplifies this event. With every one of their pieces made by hand, and passing through many pairs in the process, each creation is slightly different and it’s just what makes their work so beautiful. This event is a great chance to get inside the designers’ heads and find out what is next for the brand.

ILANEL

ILANEL

ILANEL are a fabulous creator of bespoke lighting – come along to learn about their distinctive designs that furnish hotels, homes, offices, restaurants and clubs around the country. Another lighting design company, ISM Objects, will be exhibiting as part of the event too and with 75 per cent of its lighting manufactured in-house, it’s well worthy of a position on the bill.

mud australia

Mud Australia

Renowned for their gorgeous porcelain creations that are made by hand in their Sydney factory, Mud Australia will be part of the event too. Visitors will learn about the handmade processes that result in their beautiful, minimalist-meets-artisan aesthetic.

Bloodwood

Bloodwood

With its industrial-themed interior, Newtown’s Bloodwood restaurant is a perfect pairing for the expo, and it’s one that will leave you feeling rather sated too. The restaurant will be showcasing its food and wine alongside Mecca Coffee, Continental Deli and many others. Continental Deli is a purveyor of delicious local goods –  their offering includes rare and delicious cheese and charcuterie but their great-looking tinned local produce is where they really shine. Yum!

Come and join us at the Home Staging Symposium 2016!

We’re excited to tell you about an event we are part of this year, for aspiring and existing home stagers. There’s no doubt about it, home staging is growing in size and credibility as a profession in Australia and it’s no longer seen as just faffing about with cushions! These days vendors, and real estate agents, are realising they can add thousands to their sale price by employing the professionals at making homes more stylish, appealing and saleable.

Naomi Findlay of the Institute of Home Staging, one of our resident experts on sister site Reno Addict, is the brains and enthusiasm behind this major event in Sydney in June. The owner of successful business Silk Home in the Newcastle and Hunter Region of NSW, she is passionate about educating people who want to learn how to sell their home, or other people’s homes, for more, and professionalising staging in this country.

There’s a whole host of great speakers planned and I’m excited to be one of them! I hope to see you there!

Meet Greg Natale at our next Interiors Addict reader event

I’m so delighted to announce the first Interiors Addict reader event since I returned from my travels and it’s a good one, if I don’t say so myself! This is your chance to meet Belle Coco Republic Interior Designer of the Year 2014 Greg Natale, listen to him in conversation with me and get a signed copy of his book, The Tailored Interior. Excitement plus! You’ll also get to meet other like-minded interiors addicts, take part in a fun and interactive live 7 Vignettes challenge with a prize and take home a gift bag.

Places are limited and we anticipate a wait list so don’t delay and register to attend today. The event is taking place thanks to the generous support of our friends at BoConcept at their brand new store at Supa Centa Moore Park in Sydney. The fun starts at 6.30pm on Friday 31 October and ends at 8.30pm. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, after which time a wait list will be established which you can request to go on.

You will be able to buy a copy of The Tailored Interior and get it signed by Greg at the event. Having worked with Greg on this book, I am really excited to be able to give my readers the  chance to see it. It really is a beautiful addition to your coffee table, with stunning images by Anson Smart, but it’s also full of fantastic, easy to follow advice. You’ll also be able to shop the store with a special discount on the night.

The Tailored Interior is published by Hardie Grant.

Covet my Coffee Table: with Alex Zabotto-Bentley

It’s hard to sum up Alex’s talents, but stylist, designer and events genius will just have to do (read more about AZB Creative’s work here).

alex zabotto bentley

“I love my coffee table clusters! I always mix metals, natural coral, old ceramics and tumbled silver balls and sculptures, kind of like curated clutter but with a gentleman’s retreat aesthetic,” he says. “I travel a lot for work and pleasure, so every surface in my apartment becomes the home to some form of collection of treasures.”

AZB coffee table

The table itself is 1970s, made from Italian brass, glass and lucite and was bought from Ken Neale 20th Century Modern in Sydney.

“The large white elephant ceramic was a gift from a dear friend, lovingly held all the way from Hong Kong in my arms. The bowl and plate were an antique market find from a recent trip to Tokyo and the silver objects are a collective from friends and finds from around the world.”

The coffee table sits on a hand loomed Moroccan Beni Ouarain rug from Becker Minty (I’m noticing a serious trend for people we feature in Covet My Coffee Table shopping there! Jen).

If you like what you see, follow Alex on Tumblr and Instagram.

Designer Chicks present an event all about colour

Makeover shows make design and colour look so easy, but as those of us who have spent hours staring at paint cards can attest, unfortunately it’s not that easy.

However, Designer Chicks are attempting to change this, with the Sydney-based group of design professionals holding an event all about colour. Entitled DC Code: 50 Shades of Hogbristle, the day will cover topics like how to choose a colour scheme, with demonstrations on how lighting can affect a perceived colour.
