Sage x Clare’s new range has 1970’s American folk vibe

With 1970’s inspired hues seemingly everywhere at present (I’ve noticed a lot of rust, terracotta, khaki and mustard adorning the fashion racks!), Sage x Clare’s latest collection ‘Terra’ is rather on point. “The collection has a distinct not to the 70’s and merges American folk influences and retro florals with earthy hues and delicate embellishments,” says Sage x Clare’s founder and director Phoebe Bell.

“We were inspired by the raw beauty of the American desert and the fabulous self-expression of the 70’s to bring a collection that has a feel-good and carefree vibe,” says Phoebe. And that it does. There’s plenty of retro floral prints paired with checks and fringing across bed linen, bath mats, cushions, blankets, throws, wall hangings and rugs.

And as for the palette, it’s a glorious mix of mustard, peach, lilac and baby blue. “The new season colour palette was inspired by the burnt hues and vibrant skies of the desert and its ever-changing landscape. You’ll find earthy tones and highlights of soft pinks, blues and greens to bring a collection that is both easy to live with but includes dynamic pops of vibrancy and happiness,” says Phoebe.

The Nopah tufted blanket and rainbow print Coachella cushion are collection highlights

Bedlinen and cushions aside, the fabulous new wall hangings really conjure the free-love vibe while making a big statement in the room. “My favourite pieces include the Hayfolk bedlinen, Borrego wall hanging and Juno Beni rug. I love the retro vibe of each of these pieces along with the textural quality and warmth that they bring to a home,” says Phoebe.

And as for the most popular parts of the range you better get in quick if you’re after one of the brand’s coveted bath mats and the new Nopah tufted blanket and Inyo round cushions are selling fast too. “They are crowd favourites alongside the new bedlinen prints Hayfolk and Cady,” says Phoebe.

Cushions
For a cushion addict like myself, there is so much joy to be found in this pic!

Phoebe is is also excited to add sleepwear to the range this season – with two prints available you can literally match your sheets! “The linen blend hand printed PJ’s are so cosy and fab for winter. They’ll be difficult to take off, so we’ll be wearing our PJ shirts with a classic pair of jeans!

Art Renting

7 artworks perfect for rentals

For art lovers, renting can seem like the kiss of death. Because when you can’t drill into walls, all those large artworks — especially the ones with heavy frames and glass — have to remain on the floor, or worse, in the garage. So how can you get your art fix when renting? Here’s seven easy ways.

Grab yourself a poster (40x50cm) and display it in this bargain wooden poster hanger (Editor’s note: since publishing this hanger has sold out. However, click here for another great option). Available from Typo in vintage or natural for $12,99, simply slide the poster between the wooden hangers and hang anywhere you like! It’s super light, so when it comes to hanging a temporary, damage-free wall hook will do the trick.

Featuring interchangeable letters, so you can personalise your lighting, the Compact Lightbox from Page Thirty Three is designed and handcrafted in Australia. Available in three finishes for $199.95, place it on your desk, sideboard or shelf.

With a Large Hanging retailing for $80 (super affordable considering they take eight hours to make) they are created by entrepreneurial teen Maisie Callcott, who started her business at 12 (learn about her here). Hang with a temporary wall hook.

A stylish and personal feature for your home, these custom self-adhesive Family Rules Wall Stickers make boring, fun! Coming in a broad range of colours, you can choose your own wording (and get a proof before printing). Easily removed from the backing paper, the fabric wall sticker can be moved over and over again. Available for $199.95 from The Wall Sticker Company.

Kip & Co return with another bold bedding collection

With more than a touch of Ken Done, Kip & Co really do have a uniquely Australian aesthetic. It’s the vivid hues, bold prints and general sunniness of the brand that has garnered them a loyal following – many of whom will be pleased as punch with the brand’s spring/summer 2015 collection titled Summer Storm.

Kip&Co-Day1-371With a complete range of adult, kids and tiny bedding and accessories, this is Kip & Co’s most comprehensive collection to date. Cerulean blues sit alongside peach tones and crisp white and grey. Graphic prints and soft, muted ones ensure diverse tastes are catered for.

Kip&Co-Day1-448The range also sees the addition of some gorgeous abstract themed wall hangings – a new foray for the brand. “These statement pieces are so special. They’re truly made with love and encompass the same Kip & Co vibrancy and colour energy,” says Kip & Co co-founder Hayley Pannekoecke.

Kip&Co-Day2-527

The brand’s home offerings have also expanded to include luxe French linen tableware with napkin sets and tablecloths. A plethora of rugs and beanbags also feature alongside printed Hammam towels and roomy reversible linen bags and robes.

Kip&Co-Day2-240

And for the diehards, Kip & Co’s signature velvet collection can still be found, albeit in updated colours, alongside their bamboo baby swaddles and soft cotton pom pom blankets – a definite highlight.

Maisie Callcott on starting her own homewares business at 12!

Trying to think back to what I was doing when I was 12 and I’m left with a big gaping hole. That’s probably because as a tween, I really wasn’t up to all that much. Life consisted of school, ballet, friends and sleep… and that was pretty much it. Ah, to be a kid again!

Maisie
Maisie

However, for Maisie Callcott, being 12 was a very different story. Rather, the business-savvy, craft-loving primary schooler began Maypole Design, an online business selling wall hangings, rope-based jewellery and accessories and clay bowls. (When our publisher Jen discovered Maisie’s work on Instagram recently, she had no idea she was so young, and no doubt many of her customers don’t either!)

IMG_3406

That was in 2012 and now, the 15-year-old (nearly 16!) Adelaide local has turned her once all-consuming hobby into a very popular and successful business. “I have always been creative so I guess Maypole Design came naturally and that is probably why I find it so fun,” explains Maisie. “Most of my products are one-offs and are all made with the highest quality and lots of love!”

IMG_2883

[contextly_sidebar id=”xdp2EfWLdwOtyhTR3Gp869GNKYtTVH5C”]Selling her products through Etsy, her online store and in boutiques all over the world, Maypole Design is all about supplying beautiful and unique handmade pieces that are just a little bit different. Here at Interiors Addict we can’t go past Maisie’s wall hangings, with each weaving taking a massive eight hours to complete! “I really enjoy making my weavings and put as much effort and love as I can into each one, so that my customers receive something unique that is special to them and exactly fits their space. Customers can also choose their colours, size and design, so the piece is special to them.”

IMG_3326

While creating the wall hangings is admittedly long, Maisie loves the process for how relaxing weaving can be. She is also a huge fan of the textures and yarns, and how each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. “I love all different textures and try to combine as many as I can into each weaving as it creates a really cool effect. I only use the best quality yarns and rovings when making my weavings and source them from all over the world. At the moment I am obsessed with thick merino wool and include it often. You can do so much with merino and it can change the whole look and feel of the weaving.”

IMG_3612

Alongside her wall hangings, Maisie designs and makes necklaces, keyrings, pom-pom planters and clay bowls. However, what I am most impressed by is her eBook for teenagers: How to build an online business while still at school, and if anyone should know how to do it, it’s Maisie! So for any tenacious teens out there, I’d definitely recommend a read.

Online shopping fix: NickersAnne

Growing up with an avid sewer for a mother, Nicole Pollock was crafting from a very early age. Yet it wasn’t until her thirties, after going back to university to study interior design, that she began to appreciate her skills.

Screen Shot 2015-07-09 at 10.30.37 am

Purchasing a beginner’s loom, Nicole fell in love with the act of weaving, leading her to delve back into the memory bank and pull out her long forgotten macramé skills. Now a year later she creates full-time, making one of a kind wall hangings, usually woven or knotted (macramé), for her fibre art line, NikersAnne.

Loving texture and colour, Nicole also dabbles in dying her own yarn, designing wall hangings that are both traditional and modern.

Jute woven wall hangings by fair trade artisans

Jute woven wall hangings and macrame knotting are making a comeback, and one range in particular that’s caught our eye is the one from Bonnie Bazaar.

Indigo trim wall hanging interiors addict

Hand-knotted by highly skilled fair trade artisans, who specialise in jute, only the highest quality materials are used, including natural dyes for the indigo tassels.

With a portion of the profits going to remote villages in South Western Bangladesh, Bonnie Bazzar is ensuring the traditional skills of macrame knotting aren’t lost in today’s modern consumer environment.

For people who like something which has some history behind it, these tell a story with every stitch and every fibre. Available online in two colours: natural and natural with dyed indigo tassels, each hanging retails for $90.

Artist’s sketch-a-day project inspires new wall hangings

After a particularly challenging few years, Melbourne artist Belinda Marshall decided to start 2014 afresh; setting herself the task of creating a new sketch as close to daily as possible.

F3374A12-3536-47A1-8B7B-0B5CE31A403A-1-2-1

Giving her the freedom to experiment with form and colour in a way that large paintings don’t afford, she was able to come up with a variety of ideas that have now been transformed into larger works.

everything all at once small wallhanging styled belinda marshall 72dpi_1

A selection of these have been reproduced as both fine art reproduction prints and her first range of textile wall hangings, produced in collaboration with local digital textile printer Frankie & Swiss.

The combined collection has been titled Organised Freedom, inspired by one of Belinda’s favourite artists, Bjork. “The name comes from a quote from an early Bjork song: ‘I thought I could organise freedom, how Scandanavian of me!’, which I guess is what the daily project is, and all my strictly full on domestic schedule allows work-wise!”

85BB9FBC-ACBE-472D-B0A3-860E029BD5CE

Being Belinda’s first major body of work following recovery from major illness and a separation from her husband, it was also significantly informed by her experience of travelling to Sweden to participate in Camilla Engman’s prolific ACE camp, which Belinda funded herself through a highly successful Pozible campaign.

“My work did change quite a bit after the big personal life events, but the change in style also coincided with my trip to Sweden and Berlin,” says Belinda. “These factors resulted in the change of style to a more free-flowing, more purely abstract way of working.”

Screen printed wall hangings to make you smile

These cheerful wall hangings are by Simone Duckworth, who writes the Honey and Fizz blog. I think they’re just lovely.

Make today ridiculously.. (1)

Some people think having positive affirmations hanging on your walls is a bit cliché, but personally, I’m all for it, always have been, and if they look this pretty, even better! I’ve always loved art made from words too and am a longterm typography nerd (perhaps my fascination started as a newspaper reporter?).
