Store profile: Brisbane’s Happiness Place

There’s a place for subtlety but Brisbane store Happiness Place is, thankfully, not it!

Store Interior 2

Happiness Place is a homewares and gift store dedicated to all things bright and beautiful, believing in the power of colour, the warmth of a handwritten card, the pure joy of over-the-top party decorations and the thrill of a spectacularly presented gift.

Owned by mother and daughter team Lorilie Cunningham and Stephanie Rooke, Happiness Place was born from their mutual love of colour and entertaining, and further inspired by their years of living in the US and UK respectively. Embracing the visual feast and ‘theatre’ of American retail and packaging, as well as nodding to the no rules quirk and eccentricity of English design and decorating, Happiness Place claims to be unlike any other store in Australia with its wild treasure trove of homewares, stationery, partywear and gifts.

Beneath the store sits the Happiness Place Studio, home to creative workshops and sessions hosted by Lorilie and Stephanie, covering everything from wild Christmas tree decorating to fearless use of colour in the home.

The shop stocks a huge array of brands including UK ceramic artist Mary Rose Young, an extensive range of Kate Spade New York, Italian brands Miho Unexpected Things and Seletti, the divinely floral UK brand Bluebellgray, as well as being one of Australian brand Mrs Darcy’s biggest stockists.

They have recently been appointed as the first Australian retailer to carry the UK furniture brand Squint Limited, which will land in store by August.

Feelgood florals from Mrs. Darcy spring/summer collection

I’m so in love with these! Mrs. Darcy have launched the Chameleon collection for SS14 and it’s as gorgeous as ever. Consistent with Mrs. Darcy’s contagious desire to brighten our worlds, Chameleon includes homewares and loungewear for flower lovers.

The brainchild of flamboyant creative and new mum Kellie Collis, Mrs. Darcy’s design direction is underpinned by a love of colour and beauty, and a very genuine passion to add happiness to our homes. Adapting to the change of season, Chameleon introduces a beautiful range of textiles featuring trademark florals with a seasonal injection of mint tones and geometric prints, delivered across a striking range of cushions, throws, robes, slippers and scarves.

New to Mrs. Darcy’s offering this season is a stunning selection of quilts and bedding, in addition to a smart capsule of stylish accessories including elegant overnight bags, fun floral clutches and colourful cosmetic cases.

An expanded bedding and accessory range builds on their widely adored ongoing collection of candles and diffusers.

Mrs. Darcy was launched in February 2012 and has grown ever since. Their products can be found in leading lifestyle and homewares stores around Australia, and are now also stocked in stores across New Zealand, Asia, Europe, the US and South America.

True to its name, the Chameleon collection adapts easily to a new season, room style or decorating whim. Kellie won’t mind how you use her range, as long as the end result makes you happy!

I’m head over heels for all of it!

20% off storewide at Jfahri for all readers!

With a successful career as a fashion designer under her belt, Jo Mclean decided to bring all her best finds from years of travelling home to Melbourne and open the doors to Jfahri.

The owner, designer and brains behind the brand is passionate about interiors and up and coming local designers. And it shows in her store.

The stock, as you would expect from such a seasoned traveler, is an eclectic range of furniture, art, homewares and fashion that embodies several continents, including pieces from local Melbourne designers.

The store definitely has a bohemian, artisanal feel to it and (the best part yet) the prices are very reasonable. There are gorgeous ceramics from India as well as vintage and handmade Moroccan, Mexican and Indonesian pieces.

Mrs Darcy’s Kellie Collis: the stylish girl behind a stylish brand

Funky florals and pretty patterns, all with a healthy splash of colour, is a good description of Mrs Darcy’s range of cushions, textiles and other assorted treats.

Kellie Collis

Kellie Collis is the stylish mastermind behind the growing brand. Although she comes from a corporate background (you’d never know it to look at this fashionista!), Kellie has always had a passion for textiles and design, it just took a while for her to realise she could pursue it as a career. Over time, my desire and interest in forging a business out of my passion for this industry blossomed, and here I am!”

This year’s Life Instyle Sydney

Can you believe this was my first ever visit to Life Instyle? It definitely has a very different, more boutique feel than the other trade fairs and I really enjoyed it. Despite skipping most of Kids Instyle (not my bag) there were still plenty of beautiful wares to look at. Here are a few of my favourites.

Life InstyleMy favourite stand belonged to Mrs Darcy (originally of Ada & Darcy fame). I love Kellie Collis’ colourful designs. There were plenty of new things, like gold chevron cushions (just when you think you’ve seen enough chevron you realise you need some gold chevron in your life!), gorgeous girly robes, hand creams and candles. Her floral textiles are just beautiful.

I also stopped by my favourite Voyager Candles’ stand for a sniff, went nuts over the paper goods at Bespoke Letterpress, admired the new Cool Edie’s paint colours at the Murobond stand and fell in love with everything at Bonnie and Neil (gorgeous new bed linen and ceramics mean even more places to use their gorgeous and colourful designs in your home).
