Gold, bronze, platinum and titanium in the bathroom? Why not?!

Did you know that the average person spends about one and a half years of their life in the bathroom? If that’s not an excuse to update your bathroom, I don’t know what is. Today’s bathroom trends are all about bringing the luxury of a hotel experience into your own home. Here is a roundup of the latest in bathroom trends – use them as inspiration for your next bathroom refresh.

Soluzione Wall Hung Pan in gold

Paco Jaanson’s gold and platinum range

All that glitters is gold with Pac Jaanson’s luxurious metallic hues lighting up the stage at Milan’s Design Week. The metallic colour palette in the new ColorISVEA range is all about practical sophistication; the Soluzione Wall Hung Pan ($1,400) has a ‘SmartFix’ feature and a concealed cistern, keeping a clean and fresh look that is easy to maintain.

Soluzione Wall Hung Pan in platinum

The Sistema vessel basin ($900) is an elegant choice, designed with a push-open, overflow plug and waste. Available in gold and platinum and made from a glazed ceramic, the collection is designed to withstand long-term use yet maintain its aesthetic appeal.

Sistema Vessel basin in Gold

Their innovative Italian designs are sure to transform any bathroom space into a lust-worthy on-trend space with cutting edge appeal.

Merwe’s bronze basins

Bathroom store Candana are all about creating timeless elegance in the bathroom and their latest Merwe additions would give any bathroom renovation a touch of luxury.

Merwe Loch basin

Bronze speaks of ancient worlds and old-world charm. Merwe’s Australian-designed Loch and Moat basins ($2,699) are made from silicon bronze, a lead-free material that will age and change over time. They will gradually add further grandeur to your basin while maintaining a modern minimalist style.

Merwe Moat basin

Kohler’s titanium taps

Kohler have released a beautiful set of tapware in a lustrous titanium PVD finish. The Avid range won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2015 in polished chrome. Its recreation in titanium is sure to be a winner for those looking for something a little darker and different! Reminiscent of liquid metal, Avid’s gentle, fluid form rises from the benchtop and is stretched to a slender, tapered spout.  The lever control is an extension of the body of the tap – no harsh edges, sharp angles or unnecessary embellishment.

Bang & Olufsen adds warmer touch with new brass collection

The new Cool Modern Collection combines the iconic design and cool Nordic minimalism of Bang & Olufsen with gleaming, brass-toned aluminium structures and dark beautiful textile colours to create a warm, polished ambience.

bla18-cmc-13sk-a09

Inspired by the Art Deco movement of the roaring 20s (also the same time as Bang & Olufsen was founded), the collection introduces an entirely new style choice to the B&O universe, by presenting a line of its most popular sound systems, speakers and televisions draped in warm colours, rarely seen in electronic products.

bso1-cmc-16xx-a01

There are also two new jewel-toned fabric colours for speaker covers: Purple Heart delivers a warm nuance of aged wine and dark heather, while Parisian Night suggests a velvety deep blue night sky.

As part of the new collection, BeoLab 18 and BeoVision 14 are fitted with smoked oak lamellas on the speaker covers. They are paired with new matte black stands and wall mounts to ensure a cohesive interaction with the soft glow from the new brass-toned frame. Other products available include the new BeoVision 14 television, the wireless music system BeoSound 35, the iconic BeoLab 18 speakers, and the wireless speakers system BeoSound 1 and BeoSound 2.

Cool Modern Collection is a permanent collection commemorating Bang & Olufsen’s 91st anniversary and will be available exclusively at Bang & Olufsen stores nationally. Products will cost the same as their standard counterparts.

How to: give your old decorations a new look with spray paint

I love a good quality store bought ornament as much as the next person, however when you want to update the whole look of your tree and have over 400 stems on it, things can get really expensive really quick! So this year, with some help from Rust-Oleum, I decided to mix up the decorations with some spray paint which changed the whole look of my tree.

image

Given that almost everything in my house in monochrome, I decided black and white was a pretty obvious choice and well, being a gold girl, I had to have some of that in there too.

I had a whole box of traditional gold and glass ornaments in the garage so I didn’t need to actually go out and buy any. However, if you do need to buy any, I can tell you that the cheapies from the junk shop actually came out nicer than  the expensive ones I sprayed!

image

Here is just how simple and easy it is..

Step 1: Pick up supplies

Step 2: Set up spray zone

Hang your ornaments outdoors on a suspended line to be able to spray paint them from different angles. I set up a makeshift rack in the backyard with string between branches and a drop sheet behind, which made the clean up super easy. If you set up a string system it also serves as a drying rack 😉

Step 3: Spray away

Make sure you wear gloves as you will need to hold some of the decorations to spray them properly. Spray the decorations from at least 20cm away and use light layers and several coats to eliminate drip marks on your ornaments. It’s honestly really simple and you are done within minutes. I left the decorations out in the sun for a few hours and then they were ready to be hung!

Step 4: Decorating time!

It’s always fun watching other people put up their trees; it’s like everyone has a different process they go by. I always fluff the branches then put the lights on. I group the decorations into different lots (really nice ones that I love and then fillers) I always hang the ones I love evenly all over the tree and then add the fillers inbetween.

image

All in all, I may have a new obsession with spray paint. So expect some more DIY stories to come!

Wedgwood’s iconic Wild Strawberry gets the gold treatment

I’m getting a little nostalgic over Wedgwood’s very cool reinvention of its classic and instantly recognisable Wild Strawberry design. You see, as a child growing up in England, my dad often bought me small Wedgwood pieces in this very pattern (I thought I was extremely grown up and special as a result)! So very English, don’t you think?!

Wedgwood Wild Strawberry Teacup Saucer and Plate Set

Anyway, much as I have a fondness for the original, the new Wedgwood Wild Strawberry Al Fresco collection is pretty exciting too. Acknowledging changing trends in contemporary entertaining, Wild Strawberry’s illustrative design meets the bold metallic design from the Al Fresco collection, introducing an element of glamour to both the dining table and the wider home.

Whimsical finishing touches and tributes to the original design are found throughout the collection alongside unique pieces such as the multifunctional Strawberry Punnet and generously sized Leaf Bowl.

Coordinating luxurious handcrafted crystal stemware blends seamlessly with the modern lines, generous proportions and relaxed curves of the tableware collection. Striking etched detailing decorates both stemware and serveware. Key statement pieces from the collection such as the Cocktail Jug and Water Pitcher, as well as elegant tart stands, fuse utility with design.

Large Cake Stand

The Al Fresco collection includes a number of limited edition designs. The punch service is a stunning lidded centrepiece, hand carved with over 1,600 individual cuts placed delicately across the bowl and its accompanying cups. A gold tea set of teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl (I really need one!) is the standout of the metallic designs.

Wedgwood Wild Strawberry is available online at wedgwood.com.au or at David Jones, Myer and upmarket independent stores. For enquiries call 1300 852 022.

Wedgwood is an iconic English luxury brand established in 1759 which has, more recently, forged successful creative partnerships with designers Jasper Conran and Vera Wang. A luxury collection of fine bone china and iconic jasper wear decorative items continues to be made in England by skilled craftsmen at the Barlaston factory situated on the Wedgwood Estate, Staffordshire.

A new take on the copper kettle from DeLonghi

Anyone with their finger vaguely on the pulse of the latest trends will know that copper is most definitely in, as are statement small appliances for the kitchen. I’m rather impressed by the latest Distinta Breakfast Collection from DeLonghi.

Distinta Style Copper

DéLonghi’s renowned Italian craftsmanship and skills have been used to design the new range, which embodies style, future, purity and elegance. Alongside the toasters ($169 to $199), mechanical kettle ($169), manual pump coffee machine ($299) and milk frother ($149), for the first time, the hand-brushed, stainless steel collection includes a digital kettle ($199), allowing tea lovers to control the water temperature to suit their choice of tea.

With a combination of intricate detail and matte-textured metallic finishing, the timeless range is available in Future Bronze, Style Copper (pictured), Elegance Black and Pure White.

The traditional mechanical kettle offers a stylish design, with a detachable 360 ̊ swivel base for cord-free convenience. The coffee machine includes a range of functions to make the perfect cup, including the ‘Advanced Cappuccino System’ which mixes steam, air and milk to produce a rich, creamy froth for a great cappuccino. Drinks can be made using pre-ground coffee or “Easy Serving Espresso” pods and the milk frother allows for hot and cold frothing and keeps the milk warm if required.

DéLonghi have even launched the Distinta Collection App, which uses augmented reality for users to visualise up to three appliances together in real dimensions. It also features a colour selection function and has the capability to rotate and move the product to suit the chosen space.

The Distinta range can be purchased from all leading home appliance retailers from this month.

Go crazy for copper at Freedom this season!

Yesterday, gold pieces were among the favourites I shared from Freedom’s latest homewares range. today, I’m all about copper. I’m still welcoming pops of this warm metallic into my home and I think we’ll be seeing them trending for a long time yet. You may not have thought about adding copper to your bathroom, an often neglected room in the styling and accessorising stakes. so why not give these a go? I think the shower caddy ($34.95) is my favourite.

copper bathroom freedom interiors addict

If you find copper a little too glitzy and worry it’ll look tacky, let me recommend the awesome combo that is matte black and copper, as seen in the Otis bowl ($44.95) below.

Lighting’s another place to add a touch of copper. At $49.95, the Helix suspension pendant is pretty low commitment.

There are heaps more copper options at Freedom this season. Happy online shopping!

Mr Pinchy and Co are back with more fabulous gold accessories

After a bit of a break to reassess and finesse their business model, I’m delighted that Mr Pinchy and Co and their gorgeous brass objets are back!

Mr Pinchy family (Angle) LR
Mr Pinchy the crab, from $49

Husband and wife team Michael and Lou Beer have changed craftsmen and improved quality and are back with “a broader yet more refined offering” and a new website.

The brand, stocked exclusive by Coco Republic and Becker Minty and also available online, prides itself on its masculinity and old world collector charm. “We feel there is a real void in the market for it,” adds Michael. “Our pieces are made to last, making them great life objects to be revered in the family and handed along over time. It’s often not the price tag that makes an inanimate object loved, but it’s the character, rawness and presence it brings to a space.”

Larry
Larry the lobster, from $99

With Christmas approaching, the men in our lives can certainly be some of the hardest to buy for, but the Pinchy crab claw bottle opener would surely go down well? As a female though, I have to say I’d be delighted to be gifted any of these pieces. I can’t get enough of gold accessories right now!

Other items, including the fabulous new Larry the lobster, are available in polished or brushed gold (moving forward, they will begin to offer antique bronze, antique green and black across some pieces).

Working with his wife is proving successful for Michael: “Lou is my level head. I always want to do the large statement pieces such as crocodile skulls (coming soon), but she reminds me that the price pointed pieces are what people are more likely to buy as gifts or if they are new to our brand and have not seen our pieces or their quality previously.”

Country Road’s new desk accessories are gold

One of the many benefits of working from home, is having your pick of pretty desk accessories rather than the standard corporate and practical choices. There’s definitely nothing dull about Country Road’s gorgeous new homewares in this department.

country road desk

When I previewed them some months back, your reaction on Instagram suggested you loved them as much as I did, especially the gold items (if you’re taking any of these babies into a shared office, you may want to make sure you write your name on them somewhere). The good news is, it’s all now available to buy in store and online.

country road desk gold

My favourites are the gold Dakota scissors ($14.99), Kala pen holder ($39.95) Kala letter stand ($49.95) and Mio brass paperweight ($24.95). The perspex choices are also great, practical, and will go with anything.
