Join a worldwide community in this DIY chalk paint workshop

Starting next Monday (15 March), you can join in Annie Sloan’s The Big Paint, a worldwide event for painters and creators of all skill levels. You can participate online or in person at an Australian stockist of her famous chalk paint.

There’ll be a number of events throughout March, focusing on upcycling a plain tea tray into a beautiful and unique decoration. You’ll receive everything you need inside a $99 workshop kit, which you can get sent straight to your home (to follow along online), or pick up at an in-person event.

The kit includes three tins of chalk paint in Aubusson Blue, Scandinavian Pink and Chicago Grey, a tin of Clear Chalk Paint Wax, an event exclusive stencil design, and the wooden tray itself.

The Big Paint is an opportunity to nourish your artistic side and connect with other creative people. Purchase your kit or find an in-person workshop near you on the Annie Sloan website.

Abigail Ahern returns to Australia: grab your ticket, quick!

Our favourite decorating rule breaker Abigail Ahern returns to Australia this month, running design masterclasses in Sydney and Melbourne. Don’t hang around, as tickets are selling fast!

Abigail Ahern is coming to Australia later this month

The British interior designer has been wanting to return to the country since her last successful masterclasses, and this time she’s bringing her sister, Gemma. The duo have combined their legendary Design Class and Seasonal Flower Course into one bumper, full-day masterclass. Learn how to rip up the rule book and push boundaries to create seductively stylish spaces, overflowing with personality. We just LOVE the sound of that!

“We have a huge following in Oz,” Abigail says. “Last time, the room was bursting full of design-conscious people. I wish I could have come back sooner but my schedule has been mad! I love the laid back atmosphere in Australia and how passionate everyone is about interiors, it makes teaching it so much fun. It also helps you guys have the best coffee in the world! I am coffee-obsessed and no matter where you go, it’s always amazing!”

She said she loves the Australian design scene. “It very much mirrors my own aesthetic: laid back, relaxed and super-comfy.

Abigail is running classes in Melbourne (23 June) and Sydney (25 June) at The Establishment Studios and The Hughenden Hotel respectively. Full-day tickets are 225 pounds (approximately $391). Lunch is not included. BOOK HERE.

“You will learn how to decorate differently, go off the grid, so to speak, to mainstream design,” says Abigail. “My class is all about ditching convention and mixing things up to create homes that you will never want to leave. You’ll learn all about playing with P&P (perspective and proportion), introducing tantalising colours, overdosing on texture, introducing pattern and game-changing tricks with lighting. And that is just in the first five minutes!”

We just love Abigail and her unique style. Don’t hang around as the classes are sure to sell out very soon!

Create a very personal vignette artwork at Sydney workshop

Held at the Elements I Love warehouse and hosted by author and stylist Pia Jane Bijkerk, ‘The Alchemy of Assemblage’ is a two-hour workshop set to run later this month in Sydney and is perfect for budding stylists and flat-lay enthusiasts or even just those interested in a creative afternoon with champagne and nibbles. Yes, please!

Art of Assemblage

“The workshop is perfect for someone who is apprehensive about the creative process, someone who has a drawer full of saved memories, cards, trinkets, ribbons – and would like to create something with these pieces.  And all this is done with a little glass of wine that helps the creative ideas flow!” says Pia.

All you need to do is bring along your own collection of ephemera (think photos, an old letter, a favourite quote, a broken piece of jewellery, coins, stamps, travel trinkets or a sentimental snippet of fabric) and you’ll be taught how to edit them down and mount them on a beautiful piece of antique timber. The end result will be a highly personal piece of mixed media art that you can hang proudly at home.

“The workshop will teach the process of selection and elimination and how this is the essence of creating an artwork, vignette, assemblage of any kind. These lessons and tips will then be used in a hands-on project working with your own personal pieces on a board to create a personal assemblage,” says Pia.

Small hand tools and fixing items such as studs, tacks, copper wire and other elements will be supplied along with stencils, paint and glue. There will also be a number of natural elements provided such as feather and string – ideal for layering and adding that all-important texture.

Where: Elements I Love, 124 James St Leichardt
When: Saturday August 27 from 2-4pm
Cost: $150 per person
Some materials, champagne and nibbles provided

Get reno ready with an intensive interior design workshop

Renovating can be extremely exciting, but it can also be extremely overwhelming, time-consuming and expensive! So how do you go about creating your dream home, without forking out thousands on an interior designer?

G.A.B.B.E_BRIGHTON_COUPLED INTERIOR A

Introducing the two-day intensive workshop from G.A.B.B.E, where they will teach you everything you need to know about your dream home renovation and have you walk away with interior fixtures and finishes schedules.

What many people don’t realise — and what sees them go over budget — is that when you get a quote off your builder you need to present them with a full documentation package, not just drawings and plans. For builders to quote properly they need schedules and finishes and a full idea of what they need to quote on. Without this you are receiving quotes from builders that don’t actually reflect what you want, ultimately leading to you spending more money than you have!

G.A.B.B.E_BRIGHTON_COUPLED INTERIOR B

Each workshop will only take four people (or four couples), so they’re extremely hands on. They will run every month in G.A.B.B.E’s Melbourne headquarters, with the first this weekend. And there’s still one space left! So hurry!
