Stationery designer’s chic rented apartment is right on brand!

After formal graphic design training and a stint in fashion marketing and PR, Auckland native Beck Wadworth noticed a gap in the market and launched her stylish stationery business An Organised Life. “When I moved to Sydney a few years ago, I wanted a diary but couldn’t find one that was functional yet complemented my monochrome and minimalistic aesthetic,” says Beck who sells a range of diaries, journals and wall calendars through retailers and her own e-commerce site.

Beck Wadworth
Beck in her home office

And while it’s worth mentioning her gorgeous product range, today we’re going to step inside an extension of her brand – her home in Auckland where she has been located since the Coronavirus pandemic began. “My team is all based in Sydney at our headquarters. Prior to COVID-19, I spent three weeks in Auckland and one week in Sydney per month,” says Beck who has been working out of her gorgeous Auckland rental ever since the pandemic kicked off.

Lounge room
Lounge room

Beck’s apartment is one half of a two-storey, traditional weatherboard house with water views that was built in 1900 before being separated in two. With dark timber floors and plenty of white, it’s filled with a stylish curation of furniture and homewares finds that are perfectly on-brand.

Dining room

“My interior style is very minimal, relaxed and pared back. I love fresh white walls, wooden floors and I prefer to add texture and tones rather than lots of colours! Less is more for me,” says Beck who is also a big fan of investing in pieces that merge form and function. “I favour pieces that serve a functional purpose while fitting within my aesthetic.”

Perhaps the best example of form meeting function is Beck’s home office – a space that has been in heavy use courtesy of countless Zoom meetings with her Sydney team. “My home office is very functional yet motivating and I love that I can close the door at the end of the day and separate my personal and professional life,” says Beck.

Book shelf
Beck’s office is home to this chic, very organised book shelf

The nearby lounge and dining room are another highlight of the home – a key piece in the space, the Minimalist Emilee daybed was designed by Beck in collaboration with furniture designer David Shaw.

“I’ve always loved being at home! Home is my safe haven, the place that I feel the most comfortable and relaxed.”

Online shopping fix: Next Door Artisan

Hoping to be the next Etsy or Hardtofind, new online store Next Door Artisan have two simple goals: to help makers share their work with as many people as possible, and to empower their customers to buy from local economies and communities.

next door artisan

Founded by Brisbane-based Canadian entrepreneur, Colleen Canivet, she hand selects every product after meeting or chatting with the designer. “The greatest part of this journey has been getting to know the creative people behind the products,” says Colleen “It’s amazing to meet such passionate, intelligent and inspiring individuals”.

Not restricting the products she sells, but rather supporting a wide range of artists, makers and creatives, what Colleen values is individuals who learn new skills, and use these skills to take raw materials and turn them into something new. “In the world of 3D printers, the term ‘handmade’ no longer encompasses creative makers, which is why we don’t restrict ourselves to selling ‘handmade’ items. Rather we take the time to get to know each of our artists, their materials and their processes, and ensure that each supplier has a true passion for what they do.”

Selling a mix of homewares, accessories, outdoor decor and stationery, Next Door Artisan ships Australia wide for free.

New loved up prints and stationery from Rachel Kennedy Designs

With its pretty, painterly feel, the new art print and stationery collection from Rachel Kennedy Designs draws on the most universal of muses – love.

RK im in love hi res-8
“Our latest collection centres around my favourite theme – love and all it encapsulates,” says Rachel of the range, which draws inspiration from famous love letters.

RK im in love hi res-6

Quotes are nabbed from Beethoven (‘ever thine, ever mine, ever ours’) and Elvis (‘can’t help falling in love with you’) for the whimsically romantic collection.

Freehand typography, intricate details and watercolour effects appear alongside photography and on-trend foil stamping. The Japanese ‘shibori’ hand-dying technique also makes an appearance in the range that features unique wall prints (available framed and unframed), foil-stamped swing tags and gift wrap.

RK im in love hi res-13

“The design for each print develops organically as I go about my day. Inspiration often comes from the most menial things and I never really know how each piece will turn out. Often the design ends up totally different to when I start and I love that!” says Rachel.

Celebrate our wonderful country with MOZI’s new homewares

Wanting to celebrate all that is wonderful about Australia, MOZI’s brand new collection, Flora Poética, delivers a modern take on Australia’s flora and fauna in a vibrant and bold colour palette.

ss15_MOZI_01

Paying homage to the poetry of the Australian landscape from desert to sea, the range is perfect for getting you in the mood for summer and the good times that go hand in hand with our laid back lifestyle.

MOZI_TIMES_ss15_MOZI_18

Featuring a combination of home textiles, kitchen and stationery products, summer-inspired fashion accessories, outdoor entertaining products, candles and gifting options; each piece features MOZI’s original illustrations in their signature colours.

MOZI_TIMES_SIZE_ss15_MOZI_07

“We are big fans of vintage Australiana – the tea towels in our grandmothers’ cupboards, the iconic art,” explains Fleur Harris, MOZI’s design manager. “We wanted to ‘MOZI-fy’ what is great from our past, with a fresh take to suit our current world and how we live, to create original illustrations using our trademark bright and playful colours and patterns. The rule was to go to the ‘edge of cheesy’ and not fall off!”

ss15_MOZI_08

With a range of prints on offer, all encapsulate that quintessential Australian feel. Highlights include Flora & Fauna, which pays homage to the Australian bush (think cockatoos, galahs and king parrots amongst the gumtrees); Desert Rain, which takes you out into the northern parts of our land; and Australiana, which highlights our finest landmarks, anything from a curious kookaburra to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the trams of Melbourne.

ss15_MOZI_16

From the bush to the beach MOZI have also captured the smell of summer in their two fragrance stories. Golden Honey transports you to the outback, where you’ll stop to smell fresh flowers in the clean air and Coconut Splice evokes a sense of fun and a youthful spirit.

Copper meets foil & typography in new prints from Inky Co.

Copper, foil typography, letterpress, fun with words; they’re all things I LOVE, so I’m a fan of these new limited edition prints from stationery brand Inky Co. and we have a set of four to give away to one lucky reader.

InkyCo_GroupPrints

Inky Co. is an Australian stationery and gift wrapping online store, established in 2011 by three graphic designers (mum and daughter) Chloe and Carolyn, and Sarah. Inky Co. operate in a colourful creative space in Melbourne, where their sketch pads are currently open to pages of reindeers and snowflakes as they are in full Christmas preparation mode!

InkyCo_Awkward

All papers and prints are designed and manufactured in Australia using 100% green energy and environmentally friendly materials. These new prints are foiled on a 1961 Heidelberg Windmill Platen letterpress using beautiful gold and copper foil. Each print is lovingly presented in a clear sleeve with cardboard backing and hand numbered. While designed to be unique and fun, they also keep practicality in mind, so they fit a standard frame size and will suit a wide range of interiors.

There’s a limited run of 50 of each design, making them a great starter piece to a collection.

InkyCo_Stars

The Inky Co team are passionate about interiors and hope to continue to expand upon this collection with new typographic prints and art already in the works.

Introducing the 7 Vignettes Gather Journal from Rainy Sunday

I am so excited to reveal to you an exciting collaboration that has been in the pipeline for months: Rainy Sunday’s 7 Vignettes Gather Journal. For the hundreds of you who take part in our monthly Instagram challenge, here’s somewhere gorgeous for you to keep all your styling inspiration together and you can buy it in time for Christmas (as a gift) or the January round of the competition (for yourself!).

7 vignettes gather journal rainy sunday interiors addict
Don’t you love that copper foil?!

The gather journals are the brainchild of Frith Hucks from Rainy Sunday and I leapt at the chance to get Interiors Addict involved. Rainy Sunday has evolved from a home enterprise making drinking jars (on a rainy Sunday) into a fully fledged homewares design business. Their products are often a modern take on old school ideas, so creating a series of journals with this in mind seemed quite natural.

Photo: Nikki Hernan
Photo: Nikki Hernan

“Having dabbled with the 7 Vignettes Instagram challenge myself, I realised how much thought and planning goes in to each theme,” Frith says. “Why not create a journal that both inspired and helped participants create their best vignettes each month for the challenge? Rather than just a journal with blank pages, the Gather Journal gives you the background to 7 Vignettes, fantastic tips from previous challenge winner Nikki Hernan (aka Brown Paper Lemon) to help improve your compositions and ideas on where you can get more inspiration. It’s not just a regular journal – it really is a place for gathering.”

Photo: Nikki Hernan
Photo: Nikki Hernan

From my point of view, the journal was a brilliant opportunity to showcase some of the work of one our very talented participants and blog readers, Nikki, who could not have been more excited to have her photos featured on its pages! “7 Vignettes gives you the freedom to be as expressive as you like, drawing from life experiences and connecting trinkets and heirlooms to tell tales and acknowledge loved ones,” Nikki says. “The old saying ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ rings true within vignettes. Exhibiting not only inanimate objects but also the mood that the artist is feeling. My style has has been enriched by this learning process which I look forward to continuing to explore.”

The 7 Vignettes Gather Journal is the first in a series of journals Rainy Sunday will release next year including editions for green juices and flower arranging. “Hopefully there will be lots of feedback from this Gather Journal that we’ll use to help us enhance the design and inspiration we include in our next ones,” adds Frith.

You can get your hands on the first Gather Journals ($23 each) at Finders Keepers Sydney tonight (Friday 12 December 2014) or online from today.

Urban Road and Little Branch collaborate on new canvas art series

When does a printed canvas look like a painting? Usually when an artwork is painted in the first place.

131116littebranch-8581

That’s the whole premise behind Urban Road’s first collaboration, with designer stationery brand Little Branch. Original painted art created for the Little Branch canvas collection, in collaboration with Urban Road, is based on still lives and images that the Branchettes (Maree Oaten and Anna Johnson) had admired in European flea markets and mysterious hallways and on old black and white photographs of eccentric art collections.

131116littebranch-8608

The impetus for this series came from the idea of the abundant hang; that somewhat crazy country house aesthetic for mixing all sorts of genres and sizes of canvas on one wall over time. Stretched canvas might be square, but it needn’t be neat. A rambling bohemian spirit sprouts up with every beautiful thing you choose to hang and Little Branch adore the idea of an ever-shifting gallery.
