With a diverse range of adult homewares it was only going to be a matter of time before Arro Home expanded into kids wares.

“We just couldn’t resist,” explains designer Alice Oehr. “We had a lot of ideas of things for children and we always wanted Arro Home to be available to the whole family.”

Launching their debut kids bedding collection 10 November, true to Arro Home’s distinctive style, it’s all about bold colours, creative prints and tactile fabrics. “It’s so much fun designing things for kids. You can tell a story with the product in a different way to an adult collection. You can go a little crazy with the colours and patterns and it allowed us to re-live some of our own childhood favourite things.”

Entitled In the Sky, as the name suggest, the range is inspired by everything from up above. Deep dark space, vibrant colours of the solar system, sparkly constellations, fluffy clouds and a smiling sun and moon.

Kicking off with two prints, Cloud Nine and Astro, it is featured across doona covers, pillow cases, and cushions. To pair with the prints is Constellation — a simple grey and white sheet set — four new cushions and a knitted cotton blanket.

Soft and simple, it is sure to inspire kids at play and (hopefully) settle them into slumber!

When anything is described as colourful I automatically get wary. The neutral and pastel loving cynic within imagines garish patterns and OTT designs, but fortunately that’s not always the case. Especially when it comes to Hunting for George’s just released “colourful” collection, which is as far from garish as you can get!

Their new Outsiders blanket collection proves colour can well and truly be the hero. With simple, block prints the range features bright emerald greens, rich cornflower blues and neon pinks. “It became pretty obvious when designing this range that the hero was going to be colour,” says Lucy Glade-Wright, Hunting for George’s co-founder. “So we developed a subtle design layout to support this. Our structured grids add a beautiful dynamic to each blanket whilst also remaining uncomplicated and peaceful – everything that a home should be.”

With four prints: Louie, Benny, Faker and Chase, they are all full of character. Each have their own signature colour palette, Louie, a soft lemon citrus; Faker, a combination of apricot, purple and ivory; Benny, dreamy emerald-green and Chase, pop pink and blue.

“We tend to refine our colour choices when designing bed linen but for this blanket collection we really wanted to have fun and experiment with the colour palette,” explains Jo Harris, Hunting for George’s co-founder. “All these colours make us insanely happy and that’s the reaction we hope many people will have when they lay eyes on them.”

We were really happy when we heard Feliz Home had a new collection to share with us!

Co-founder Melissa Alessi says: “We are so proud of the quality we have achieved and the designs we have added to our core range. Feliz’ designs continue to be playful for kids, with a sophistication and simplicity in our designs for teens and adults.

“Layer as much or as little colour and fun as you wish and enjoy knowing that our designs have been drawn by hand, screenprinted by hand and sometimes painted by hand! Not only are the designs new but the family is growing. We have added a bunch of beautiful new products and styles to the range.”

We particularly like the freehand spots of Sprinkle Sprinkle, which comes in charcoal, fluro pink or gold. Fun pillowcases feature text like buenas noches, siesta/fiesta, yeah/nah, happiness and love.

We think the range is fun without feeling too childish or bright and it’s really up to you how much colour and fun you layer up. We also love how you can mix and match many pieces.

After years of working in product development for large companies and not-for-profit organisations, and the birth of their children, Melissa, along with Jane Forbes, decided there was no better time than to join forces and create something that was truly them. With light hearts and industrious hands they decided to create a brand that reflected how they felt: feliz (happy)!

Using organic and sustainably produced fabrics, their designs are lovingly hand screenprinted using water-based inks, in their studios in Geelong and Melbourne, VIC.

Today we chat to Alex van der Sluys, co-founder of bedding brand Kip & Co.

1. What is your favourite holiday destination?

New Orleans is quite something else. I am a sucker for any city where it is socially acceptable to walk around with a giant plastic cup of gin and tonic and where the worst musician on the street is still better than most I’d hear at my local. The heat, the architecture, the voodoo history, the people. All good.

2. What is the best gift you’ve ever been given?

I just got an apple watch and I LOVE it. Self professed apple geek.

3. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Go back to bed. And I give that advice to myself every morning.

4. What is your favourite homeware you own?

I’ve got a big old case with the name HH Hunter on it. It was the dentist case of my amazing relative who died at Gallipoli aged 33, having already played AFL for Essendon and played American Football AND worked as a successful dentist. He set the bar high!

5. Who is your favourite musician?

I love the new album by The Weeknd, beauty behind the madness. He has a bit of a potty mouth but is totally addictive.

When Goosebumps released their first children’s bedding collection late last year, I must say I was a little jealous. Where was all the colourful, pattern-crazy, adult designs?!

Combining luxurious pure cotton sateen with trending colour palettes and fabric designs, new bedding brand Ltd. by Logan & Mason, aims to create subtle drama in the bedroom.

With their first collection perfectly capturing the eclectic colours of spring/summer 2015 – a vibrant mix of soft pastels and saturated brights – they take their cue from Australia’s tropical climes and balmy nights.

There are six designs in the collection, each one making its own bold statement. My two favourites are Java Watermelon, a modern take on the traditional Ikat design in watermelon and white with overprinted stria effect, and Wade Indigo, Ltd.’s own interpretation of the chic casual tie-dye look, all in a mix of beautifully deep watery blues and crisp white.

I’m very much a neutral girl — I admittedly have an unhealthy obsession with the colour (shade?!) black — so for all intents and purposes I shouldn’t like KAS Australia’s colour-crazy spring/summer 2015-16 collection. Yet, I do.

Featuring vibrant and bold colours and prints, The Solarise Edition is contemporary and luxurious, encompassing an array of bedding, cushions, throws, Euro pillows and outdoor soft furnishings in high quality fabrications.

Inspired by four primary themes, the collection is broken into four ranges, the first being Wanderlust. An exploration of romantic bohemian patterns in a palette of blush, dusky blues and soft pastels, the prints are intricately ornate and showcase a muted and softer element to this summer collection.

In contrast, the second range Memphis Pop is a celebration of vivid colours and graphic patterns. With a distinct 80s-esque feel, styles illustrate an eye-catching and dynamically colourful aesthetic.

As lovers of their local art scene, the girls behind lifestyle brand Kip & Co decided it was high time to shine a light on the talented artists they had been crushing on.

Letitia Green, who has a background in design and illustration, combined traditional batik style influences and African inspired block print symbols of flora to create her beanbag, urban echo. A happy clash of chaos and rhythm; colour and line bounce playfully together to create an energetic and uplifting design.

Devinder, who after a break from fine arts is just getting back on the creative wagon, took guidance from fiber arts for her beanbag. With the piece beginning as a random simple line stitching on paper, Devinder had no plans in mind, before inspiration struck!

Mr Smudge, a surfer and graphic designer with a passion for illustration, based his beanbag print on the many characters he’s met through surfing; from surf crazy youth to surfboard salesmen.

Rawaan is an artist and writer from Dubai, who currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. A textile designer her winning print, Sticker Collection, was inspired by the sticker albums of her youth, full of a motley collection of all kinds of tiny precious stickers.

“It’s playful and serious all at once,” says founder Rachel Castle. “A little bit dark and moody, but crisp as a button, and works with every single colour we’ve ever done in our collection.”
