New homewares from Deborah Hutton let you bring the beach home

Much-loved Australian media icon Deborah Hutton has drawn inspiration from her recent move to the NSW South Coast to create her latest spring /summer collection.

“Since moving to the South Coast, every day has felt like a weekend getaway and I want to give others the opportunity to create a sense of holiday and relaxation in their homes too,” she said.

“The idea behind my latest collection is to bring a relaxed weekend vibe to you. Whether you’re by the beach, in the city, even in the country you can add a touch of coastal luxe in your own home. And you can do so without breaking your budget, either.”

Quilt cover set

The collection features a range of luxurious bed linen, coordinating throw rugs and cushions, coverlets, towels, décor items and tableware.

While the recent sea change has been the main focus of Deborah’s newest collection, memories from travelling near and far have helped bring it together.

From a much loved trip to Morocco (Amira), walking through local palm forests (Palmetto) and wearing her favourite relaxed linen shirts (Sinclair) there is a touch of vacation throughout Deborah’s entire collection.

It includes bed linen sets, European pillowcases, coverlets, throws, blankets and cushions.

The HOME with Deborah Hutton collection is available now, exclusive to HOUSE Bed & Bath, in store and online.

A personal touch in Deborah Hutton’s new coastal homewares range

Former international model and beloved TV personality Deborah Hutton has launched her own coastal inspired homewares range.

“I have a huge crush on coastal but that doesn’t mean it’s a style exclusive to beachsiders. The laidback feel of this collection looks beautiful anywhere. It’s coastal meets modern, and works with beachside, country or city living,” says Deborah. “The collection is relaxed luxury, easy on the eye, and ideal for mixing and matching to suit your style.”

The stylish collection is a true reflection of Deborah’s personal style, with luxurious bed linen, coordinating throw rugs and cushions, as well as towels, décor items, and tableware.

“I’m a big fan of muted tones and neutral palettes; think crisp whites, navy, stone and duck egg blues,” she adds. “The range is a true reflection of the things I love and looks right at home in my own house. I’ve collected beautiful pieces over the years and have incorporated elements of these into the range.”

Deborah says COVID has led to changes in the way many of us are living. Whilst the home has become a vital place of comfort and sanctuary, affordability is a definite consideration during these unprecedented times.

“I’ve designed the collection to accommodate these new ways of living so that someone can fit out a new house, and make it look effortlessly stylish on a budget.”

She’s particularly proud of the bed linen and towels. “The bed linen is so relaxed and inviting and the towels are luscious, large and absorbent and both are such great value. I think people will love them.”

The collection has been released nationwide through MyHouse. “I’m thrilled to welcome HOME with Deborah Hutton to MyHouse.” says Steven Lew, founder and chairman of Global Retail Brands. “As a much loved media personality with some serious style and interiors creds, Deborah is the perfect addition to our existing offer of stylish and great value homewares.”

Coastal homes: All white is out and colour is in!

If you and I were to play a game of word association and I said ‘coastal interior’ I’m fairly positive your first response would be ‘white!’ Am I right? When it comes to beachside styling, white has always reigned but that’s set to change according to Perth interior stylist Alex Carter of Harlow & Willow who turned the white cliché on its head recently transforming a typical Aussie coastal home into a colour lover’s paradise. Today she tells us how to get the look.

Ease yourself in
“If you’re relatively new to introducing colour into your home, ease yourself in. There’s no need to break out the green paintbrush right away! Start off by swapping out your current cushions and throws for colourful and patterned ones and watch how it lifts your space!” says Alex.

Cushions
Cushions are a relatively affordable way to take the colour leap

Select colours that make you feel good
“Even as a colour lover, I have some colours that I just don’t like. When injecting colour into your home and decor it is important to choose colours that make you feel good and that you find visually pleasing,” says Alex and it’s a sentiment I share. For example, as much as I love wearing red I would never have it anywhere near my house.

Alex Carter styling
Tranquil yet colourful bedroom styling

Choose colour levels depending on the use of the room
“Colour can create a vast array of feelings and change moods. Consider this and the feeling that you want to create in each space. For example, you may opt for more relaxing shades in the bedroom like calming blues or deep greens and rich plum tones whereas living areas can take more vibrancy with brighter, bolder colours,” says Alex.

Decorate depending on the feeling and not trends
Don’t fall into the trap of decorating to a trend as you will get sick of this pretty quickly. Just because 75 per cent of Instagram seems to be using blush and grey doesn’t mean that you have to – except if you love it, then of course go for it!” says Alex who explains that it’s important to try and tap into your own distinct taste. “Choose colours that reflect the mood you want to create in your space,” she adds.

It’s okay to mix things up
“When it comes to your home, you don’t need to fit into a certain style or colour palette. Feel free to mix the vintage with the new, the colourful with the more minimal items and even colour combinations that may not be the norm. This is your sanctuary and should be a visual reflection of you so have fun with it!”

Bathrooms RENO ADDICT The Block

Bathroom styles 2018: which is for me, how do I get it?

When it comes to bathroom renovations, many shy away from their dream and instead opt for safer, more subdued options due to being overwhelmed by choice.

But is playing it safe really the right renovating attitude? According to renovating duo and winners of The Block 2014, Simon and Shannon Vos, a conservative approach rarely pays off and can lead to “renovation remorse”.

“Bathrooms provide an opportunity to inject a fun dash of architecture into the home that is hard to achieve on the same level elsewhere,” says Simon.

The first (and undoubtedly the hardest) step is to figure out your style. To help you navigate the Pinterest minefield of trends and tiles, Simon and Shannon shared with us their top four bathroom trends for winter 2018!

1. Traditional

“Dark to light colour palettes always work well within this style,” says Shannon.

The Beaumont Tiles ambassadors suggest picking a deep-toned timber look tile for the floor, paired with a clean, light-toned Carrara marble mosaic walls to draw the eye upwards while adding a touch of theatre to the overall project. Incorporating hints of brushed metallics through tapware and other fixtures is a fantastic way to add complexity to the space. For those who are daring, add a chandelier or oversized pendant light for a serious bathroom statement!

2. Coastal

“Opt for a light grain timber-look tile then couple with a monsoon shower for some wow factor that looks and sounds like rain,” says Simon. He suggests clean tapware in either silver or matt black, and don’t forget to include indoor plants and seascape artworks to bring the outdoors in. “To complete your coastal bathroom, add textural layers with raw cotton bathmats, fluffy cotton towels and natural fibre baskets,” adds Simon.

3. Modern

Clean monochromatic lines with hints of colour, is the best way to nail the modern-look bathroom. A large format tile with either a lot of movement or bold vein features is always a strong starting point. To create playful balance, Simon suggests installing a 3D tiled feature wall to draw the eyes upwards and out.

4. Scandinavian

“Keep styling modest by selecting a central feature in your area such as a freestanding bath tub, then add colour and layers to frame its focal point,” says Shannon. “Geometric tiles in either white, black or marble look-a-like are always a spot-on choice for Scandi bathrooms. Though for those who are daring, contrast the geometric tile with a fun coloured grout like blue, or forest green. Or opt for a strong metallic mosaic.”

Discover your perfect style by heading over to Beaumont Tiles and taking the “What’s my style” questionnaire

Weatherboard homes: three looks (that aren’t Hamptons!)

Australia’s love affair with the weatherboard look can be seen in many of our historic and most popular styles – from the Queenslander to coastal and new, contemporary designs.

“Weatherboard is extremely versatile and is embedded in Australian home design. Traditionally, timber has been the go-to, but today, we have more advanced options, like Linea Weatherboard, which open up new design possibilities for personal style to shine through,” says Steve Pisani, national builder business manager, Scyon Walls.

Here, Steve offers his top tips for achieving three of the most authentic Aussie home designs with cladding:

Contemporary

Combining a mixture of materials when building or renovating allows homeowners to increase visual interest, add personality and make the style of the home their own. Often built to create an immediate impact, these stand-out designs can be softened to suit suburban surrounds with the addition of more traditional materials like weatherboard.

Most modern contemporary designs use a number of types of cladding. Linea Weatherboard is narrow with clean lines and deep shadows. The smooth texture and square profile boards provide crisp definition and can be painted any colour for a contemporary look. For larger expanses use the 180mm boards to create a larger feel and scale down to the 150mm in smaller areas to enhance the perception of space.

The mix of materials can add to the functionality of a home while instilling a strong sense of individual style and character to the home.

Coastal

The main elements of the coastal style mirror the beach itself, light, breezy and open. Choose a colour palette of whites, creams, greys and blues that reflect the hues of the beach and add to the easy-going, simple feel. The architecture of the house should accentuate the view and blur the line between the indoors and outdoors. When designing the home, opt for large, open-plan rooms with many windows and skylights, to allow sunshine to flood in and create clear sightlines to the outdoors.

If the house is located in a coastal area, selecting materials that can withstand the harsh climate is vital. Linea Weatherboard is able to achieve the deep shadow line look of traditional timber options without the maintenance, as it is less prone to flaking, warping or swelling, and is resistant to fire and damage from termites and moisture.

The Queenslander

Developed in the 1840s, the uniquely Australian Queenslander is a design response to the sub-tropical climate of north-eastern Australia. Today we see modern interpretations of the classic Queenslander style with elements including elevated spaces, heritage detailing and partially enclosed verandas that extend the indoor living space and provide relief from lengthy, warm summer days.

When building elevated homes, keeping the weight of building materials to a minimum is key. Choose light timber frames with weatherboard look cladding to achieve the classic aesthetic and functionality of the Queenslander. Linea Weatherboards are lightweight and easy to install, making a crisp, clean timber look quick and easy to achieve.

The Scyon™ brand is owned by James Hardie Technologies™ Ltd and was invented in the research and development facility at James Hardie Rosehill, NSW. Launched in 2006, Scyon products are made from sand, cement and cellulose. Scyon is manufactured at plants in Rosehill, NSW, Carole Park, QLD and Penrose in Auckland, New Zealand.

House tour: This luxe coastal retreat avoids seaside clichés

While it’s important to consider a home within its context, it’s easy to churn out the same old design tropes – particularly when it comes to a beachside abode. Located in the southern Perth suburb of Mandurah, this beachside home combines a light, airy, coastal feel with sumptuous luxury to an original end. “The owners wanted an intimate and ambient high-end, luxe coastal feel but were adamant that they didn’t want a typical coastal design,” says the project’s interior designer Kristie Hill of Colourcube Interiors.

Lounge room

Home to a middle-aged Scottish couple, the home also accommodates the owner’s grandchildren and numerous guests. “The owners are Scottish and have a lot of overseas visitors stay for lengthy periods of time, so they wanted their own space, and space for their visitors so they weren’t living on top of each other,” says Kristie.

Entry

Designed to take in the beautiful ocean view, the main living spaces are upstairs. “Upstairs is their living area, kitchen, integrated dining, family, master bedroom and ensuite and powder room,” says Kristie.

Guest bedroom

The ground floor is comprised of the guest living, rumpus room, three guest bedrooms and a back yard complete with pool. “The finishes they wanted were to be minimal, easy maintenance, no fuss and easy on the eye.”

And while the original design brief stipulated a focus on neutral colours, this soon changed once the couple moved into the home. “They initially didn’t want to introduce too much colour, but once the home was completed and we were considering furniture selections, it was apparent that we need to add character and warmth to the home through colour,” says Kristie.

Neutral spaces are invigorated by bright colour pops

A design highlight, the master bedroom feature wall has shades of mid-century design and makes quite the statement. “The cladding in the master bedroom is an absolute stand out,” says Kristie of the wall that is covered in Merbau timber – a material that features throughout the rest of the home.

Master bedroom – we love the beautiful Merbau timber clad feature wall

The home’s kitchen is a treat too, with the whole design focussed around easy indoor/outdoor living designed to maximise the view. “You walk up the stairs and right there in front of you is this massive kitchen, and a walk-in pantry and scullery. The clients knew the importance of a high-end functional kitchen in such a large house and didn’t hold back when it came to selecting finishes,” says Kristie of the space that features an integrated dining table, a space-saving measure.

Kitchen

“Initially the kitchen was designed the opposite way, but the island and other benchtops were too small for the home. So, we came up with the idea of integrating the dining table to allow the kitchen much more space, and to flow more effectively to the front balcony, which has uninterrupted views of the coastline. It’s a beautiful space, morning or afternoon, summer or winter. The winter sun beams into the main living and kitchen by midday and the summer sunsets on the balcony are incredible. I feel we created this amazing indoor/outdoor space that can be utilised all year round for different reasons,” says Kristie.

Get excited about staying in with OZ Design’s new collections!

Sponsored by OZ Design Furniture

Even if you prefer sunnier weather, if there’s one really good thing about winter drawing in, it’s the chance to layer up and get cosy at home, changing your look for the new season. As if interiors addicts need a reason to change their décor though?!

The Coco 3-Seater
The Coco 3.5-Seater

OZ Design Furniture have some beautiful new furniture in store this week to take winter interiors to the next level! As our thoughts turn to hibernation weather, our homes become our favourite place to stay in and have friends over. OZ Design Furniture have created their new collections for living and dining spaces inspired by the latest interior trends so whether you’re curling up and reading a good book or entertaining, home is the most inviting place to be. As usual, the brand has its four key looks to choose from: abode, global, coastal and arthouse.

This season, OZ Abode showcases how to create a relaxed feel which is also sophisticated and functional. It’s all about warmth and layered texture. Muddied hues of on-trend blush and deep blues create the perfect backdrop to allow the layering of multiple finishes and colours. Moody pastels are showcased through matt accessorising, thick weaved cushions and a hint of a luxe with velvet touches (my favourite!). Metallic and marble accents (these trends aren’t going anywhere any time soon!) and floral and abstract patterns in textiles, keep the look fresh and playful.

The ever popular OZ Global collection reflects cultural inspiration from around the world, where the combination of soft brown leathers, raw timbers and tribal colours is key. The sleek lines and soft tan leather of the Boulevard sofa combined with the rustic finishes of the new Penfold range are reflective of this look. Natural hides thrown over surfaces heighten the warmth and depth, and slimline silhouettes are given volume with throws, graphic cushions and a hint of leather. Gold and copper accent homewares and botanicals add to the raw, earthy and organic vibe.

PENFOLD COFFEE AND SIDE
Penfold coffee and side tables in clear lacquer and Boulevard sofa

Don’t expect any cliches from the OZ Coast collection! This is the beach vibe reinvented! With natural textures and whitewash timbers still being at the heart of every coastal setting, this season OZ Design Furniture show a different take by styling neutral tones with hues of grey, complemented by muted pastels. The use of basket weaves, linen and thick knit wool throws creates a sense of warmth. Another distinct look comes from the use of rustic brown timbers with muted greens and over-scaled botanicals to create a tropical room setting. We love the light and bright Darby dining setting (pictured below).

DARBY DINING SETTING

OZ Arthouse is an eclectic blend of mid-century style with a contemporary edge. This season, the collection is about the balance of sleek lines and light timbers, complemented with accents of monochrome and pastel to create a modern and refined room. Check out the new Violet dining setting, Marilyn buffet and Porto desk. The Scandi influence is very obvious, and works perfectly with geometric, faceted, copper and organic finishes in accessories.

My favourites from OZ Design Furniture’s new ranges

Sponsored by OZ Design Furniture

You should pop down to your local OZ Design Furniture store to check out their gorgeous new Spring/Summer collections! It’s probably my favourite part of the homewares year: new bright and breezy furniture and accessories to welcome the warmer months!

I love the retro vibe of the new Carson coffee table in beautiful solid timber, from $1,449
I love the retro vibe of the new Carson coffee table in beautiful solid timber, from $1,449

This season, they’re promising to take interiors to the next level, embracing the Australian lifestyle and how we love to live at home. I love how they, as usual, have curated four distinct looks: Abode, Arthouse, Coast and Global. For those who need a little help putting a look together they can simply choose from the one; the more adventurous can play stylist by mixing and matching from all four if they like!

You can expect the same OZ Design Furniture timeless design and style of course, but with a good dose of freshness for the new season. OZ Abode stays true to its mantra of showcasing beautifully crafted furniture, but a few new additions kick the look up a notch. The Hunter designer chair is a clear standout, but the Cantina dining table is a great staple classic. This look is all about clean lines and quality craftsmanship, styled with bold pattern and texture in fun bright colours.

HUNTER
The Hunter designer chair can be customised

The Cantina

OZ Global has dark and moody moments this season, pulling a tonne of inspiration from other cultures. I love the fresh botanical influences. Earthy tones (already being predicted as popular in the paint companies’ latest colour forecasts) and organic materials (you can never go wrong with nature, I say!) are trending now, with new pieces like the Cannes dining, coffee and side tables plus console (I want this in my hallway!) in rich marble stealing the show. Who doesn’t love marble?!

CANES CRIMSON
The marble-topped Cannes dining table

SOHO SLING MARTIN

Don’t forget to add the odd gold and copper accent (I have many in my home and they’re going nowhere any time soon!) from the new accessories options, adding to the raw, earthy and organic vibe.

OZ Coast recognises that Aussies never get over the beach, but you’ll find punchier colours in this year’s style story. A large number of Australians will always love this look, not surprisingly when so many are lucky enough to live near the ocean. Sunny yellows and deep blues sit against gorgeous whitewashed timbers, while rattan and wicker feature prominently. Among the new pieces, I love the Avoca buffet; functional and good looking.

SANTORINI NELSON (1)

OZ Arthouse is a hit for those who love the eclectic, not too ‘done’ look. It’s blended but balanced, offering the chance to celebrate pastels and bright tones together. Geometrics also get their moment alongside other bold patterns and motifs. The Tatler modular sofa is a brand new addition and is set to be a hit this season.

TatlerSari
The new Tatler sofa

As usual, there are countless timber and upholstery options on almost everything. If you don’t want to customise, certain products marked for express delivery can be with you in a guaranteed four weeks!

OZ Design’s online store is launching soon (watch this space for more information), showcasing the latest and greatest in homewares for spring and summer all ready to make their way into your home. In the meantime, check out the latest online catalogue.

Get the vintage look with Feast Watson’s Crackle Lacquer

Sponsored by Feast Watson

Getting the vintage look often requires a lot of op-shop trawling, a lot of money spending and a lot of time spent transforming your furniture back to its former glory. And while that can certainly be enjoyable, let’s face it we don’t all have the time, money or most importantly, skills!

yXl1hNcmgKc33lO-F4ZUADI59kS6550fZEVWD6eUPaQ

So Feast Watson’s Crackle Lacquer is really the next best thing. A specialty finish it can give brand new but bland or just plain tired interior timber furniture a distressed, vintage feel.

9NDnbI9MGAlVYc5ELflqD2cz52ZyfiGIK-3V6UURa2I

A two-step system, it’s easy to use — even for those DIY novices among us. Simply apply the Crackle Lacquer Base Coat followed by the Crackle Lacquer Top Coat and you’re done! The Crackle Lacquer Base Coat has been specially formulated to activate the top coat to crackle as it dries, so it really requires nothing from you. The Crackle Lacquer Top Coat is available in a white base, which can be tinted to many colours, so there are a magnitude of options available.

JUtuJJIHQmE81mLsEwAstG0DHA0ALCTlkoaxLPCgWh0

The look also suits many trends and would be perfect for homes that have a shabby chic or coastal style. If your home has a shabby chic style, than the Crackle Lacquer look is perfect. Shabby chic is all about furniture that shows the signs of wear and tear (in a chic way of course!), so distressed, vintage-style furnishings teamed with soft, opulent, country home decor is ideal. Pair your Crackle Lacquer piece with pastels, patterns, mismatched pieces and worn textures.

bZpYNN4cc9OTr2jqd9D77WeiPFYdSsVawe8_kcJ2DuQ

If the coastal look is more to your fancy, we recommend teaming your Crackle Lacquer furniture piece with a palette drawn from nature (think sand, shells, sea and sky). White is the colour of choice, so stick to that paint colour for your statement Crackle Lacquer piece, then add texture and interest through clean, neutral fabrics, like linens and muslins and eclectic furniture of recycled timber and vintage rattan juxtaposed against plush upholstered sofas.

VL-vcFUK9G2ZPBN54-052YULsD6fIpk2mB4Jj2ABjJY

Note: Crackle Lacquer is a reactive process. Individual results will vary due to film thickness, application method, ambient temperatures and substrate. Crackle Lacquer is not recommended for high wear situations or wet areas and is not suitable as a floor paint.

House tour: stylist Tess Beagley’s contemporary coastal weatherboard

As an interior stylist and founder of Minted Interiors, Tess Beagley has an eye for spotting potential. Stumbling upon an old weatherboard worker’s cottage in the coastal town of Geraldton, Western Australia, she immediately fell in love with the bones of the property.

Tess and daughter Jemima
Tess and daughter Jemima

“We really wanted to achieve a crisp, contemporary, coastal vibe whilst paying respect to the character and history of the house,” explains Tess. “We chose a light paint colour to promote as much natural light as possible and highlighted the character of the home by keeping or adding features like timber cladding, dado rails, antique French doors and double hung wood frame windows.”

8x3qedxVOoT1zaVpg7j5-TpjcqK_pK2CdLFRPE6ZfIU

[contextly_sidebar id=”3QNj1nZ0gpk9ijt4s3rZ9HXBCnVyy6Mr”]Keeping the walls and floors neutral, Tess then layered the furniture and decor to create a coastal vibe, without being too literal (there’s no overdose of seaside paraphernalia here!). “I love the fusion of old and new, so using contemporary pieces against a classically neutral character base is my idea of heaven. Think plenty of plants, coral, relaxed and sometimes worn furniture, natural materials like rattan, timber, leather, tin and marble, as well as plenty of soft textiles to soften and bring colour to each space.”

-fTjac0zZqJJKjGp2MZyWA_ywsOkQW3alYRfRNSVYhg

NF-voqjR6gk8GUtSJpH8epZEgXcm6eLxvohzrXUZTAs

Home to Tess, her husband Yves and their young daughters Lotte and Jemima, since they’ve revamped the property Tess loves nearly every room of the house (though she is keen to renovate the kitchen). Favouring their extended deck and spacious dining room, it is the master bedroom that has cemented itself at the top of her list. “It’s always filled with the most beautiful light, has stunning antique French doors which came from an old local hospital, a view of the ocean and a soft, relaxing vibe which offers a little sanctuary from the world. It’s the perfect spot to relax at the end of a long day, if only I had more time to spend there! “

lBC2pacd1AsSYg0CBVXYzmEf2xxNNi2_Kc0Sr_QhUwc

SQANVKwW4eG2Q7fpsnUPIuf7ql9QhODyc9Zb8QB8ebA

A lover of antiques, it’s not just her bedroom that is filled with one-of-a-kinds, with Tess’ antique dining room dresser taking pride of place in her home. “It first belonged to Yves’ great-grandmother Alice who passed it down to her daughter, before it was passed down to Yves’ mum who had it restored and then passed it on to us. It has been in the family for four generations and hopefully we can make it a fifth!”

WH5iQ_bHSIZ6tlLh3z6JIY580TeAf5tFxBP-qMqWMhg

Also a favourite is the chest of drawers in the girl’s bedroom: “It used to be vanished pine with huge ugly pine knobs. Yves and I gave it a revamp — a lick of paint, map inserts and new handles just before Lotte was born and now it’s a very treasured piece in our home.”

1YMWfAbi7Dy-9_rRYWcQJ0MdGbj7poomZOKY_vqrlgc

Running interior, product and event styling services through her business Minted Interiors, it’s no surprise Tess’ home is gorgeous. It’s also no surprise that she never stops coming up with new design ideas; a stylist’s work is never done! “We’ve done plenty of work since moving in but have more plans in the pipeline. We want to move our kitchen from the centre of the house to the front, to create a more functional, open living plan and provide direct access to the deck/yard to take in the beautiful ocean views. Definitely not looking forward to the chaos of renovating with toddlers but the rewards will be worth it!”

Create a Coastal, Hamptons and Scandi look with Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish

Sponsored by Feast Watson

With its milky white appearance, Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish is ideal for introducing tranquillity into a space. Perfect for creating softer looks (such as Coastal or Hamptons), it can also be the perfect base for contrasting and bold interiors (like Scandi), when paired with black accents in complementing fixtures or hard furnishings.

Dress the look: Coastal and Hamptons

FW_LIMING WHITE FLOOR FINISH (2)

Light and breezy, with a palette drawn from nature (think sand, shells, sea and sky), it blends the outdoors and indoors perfectly. White is the hallmark colour of coastal interiors and should be accompanied by neutral colours and crisp and clean fabrics, like linens and muslins. Furniture is an eclectic mix of old and new, such as recycled timber and vintage rattan juxtaposed against plush upholstered sofas.

Dress the look: Scandinavian

FW_LIMING WHITE FLOOR FINISH_smaller

Renowned for its pared back look, the Scandi style juxtaposes a white blank canvas with sleek black fixtures and pops of colour. With a focus on flawless craftsmanship — a timber table coupled with a beautiful set of upholstered dining chairs is a must – there is also a magnitude of layered textures (like leather, fur and linen) and pops of colour through cushions and throws.

Creating these two looks is simple with the Liming White Floor Finish. Gone are the traditional methods, where you required a direct stain and a clear top coat which would often result in yellowing over time. Now with the Liming White Floor Finish there is an easy three coat system, allowing users to choose the intensity of the colour. This clever formulation creates a beautiful finish while still allowing the natural grain of the timber to shine through.

FW_4L LimingWhiteFloor

FEAST WATSON LIMING WHITE FLOOR FINISH combines a traditional lime stain with a professional clear polyurethane for a ‘soft milky white colour’ and protection for interior timber floors. The semi-transparent coating adds rich colour whilst allowing the grain pattern of timber to remain visible. As the formula is water based, Liming White Floor Finish will not yellow over time and you can complete your project in a single day. Apply one coat for a subtle pale colour, or multiple coats to build the opacity and whiteness. A clear top coat is not required with three coats of Liming White Floor Finish.

“Our Sorrento store has been designed to feel as though you have stepped into a family home. Each room has its own character and with the addition of a café and gardens, we have created a real life expression of Country Road,” says managing director, Sophie Holt.

Large, metal-framed windows allow natural light to fill the store where the Country Road Woman and Man collections make a statement amidst exposed timber beams, textured brickwork and a polished concrete floor. The spirit of Country Road Child comes to life with pieces displayed on timber tables and bench seats akin to a classic schoolroom. As you walk through Country Road Home, the space organically flows into the café and onto the terrace, connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The café at Country Road Sorrento will be known as Post 3943 and is a collaboration with local organic café The Sisters. Surrounding gardens include a vegetable patch which will supply home-grown herbs and fresh produce to the café daily.

Country Road Sorrento is located at 10-16 Ocean Beach Road, Sorrento, VIC. Open daily, 10am to 4pm.

Stylist Tim Neve’s book takes clichés out of coastal interiors

Believing coastal decorating had become extremely cliché, stylist Tim Neve decided to take matters into his own hands, writing the new interiors book, Sandcastles.

NEVE_SC_Anchorage_106
“When you hear the phrase coastal decorating, I don’t blame you if you shudder,” says Tim. “For too long, faux starfish and mass-produced Gone Fishin’ signs have reigned supreme and muddied the waters of what should be the clearest, most authentic inspiration in home styling.”

_93A7110

Beautifully designed, Sandcastles sees Tim explore many versions of coastal style: from the elegant, salt-bleached driftwood neutrals of Beachcomber and the retro zing of Endless Summer to the rich velvets and vintage collections of Bohemian and the lush tropical foliage of Islander.

As an avid collector of vintage wares, Tim uses statement pieces and salvaged objects to achieve timeless interiors. Drawing on inspiration from his surroundings, Sandcastles encourages you to do the same. Interwoven throughout, Tim has also provided a wealth of practical advice, moodboards, colour palettes, stylist’s tips and insider secrets.

Newcastle-based Tim is the creative force behind Australian Coastal Home magazine and has spent most of the past decade working in styling and writing features for magazines including Real Living, Home Ideas, Country Home Ideas and Modern Home.

The Global collection embraces texture, organic natural fibres, handweaves and multi two-tone timbers. The Archer entertainment unit and coffee table boast sleek angular lines, mixing Tasmanian blackwood with a clean white finish. They look great with the slimline Enzo sofa, with its narrow arms and low depth for plush comfort.
