Autumn bed linen latest: Navy, eucalyptus & cinnamon dominate

While it’s hard to think about any other weather event than the tragic floods that have hit the country of late, autumn has arrived and with it a new array of bed linen. From trans-seasonal coverlets to pretty autumnal florals, the season sees an emergence of a strong colour palette with navy, eucalyptus green and cinnamon appearing across brands.

L&M Home

L&M Home’s autumn line-up is a cosy affair with lots of plain bedding options in rich tones including classic navy and cinnamon. The brand’s plain Nordic linen range is woven in Portugal and crafted using fine, 100% cotton yarns making for an ultra-soft feel with a hint of crispness. We love the brand’s gorgeous Soho quilt in the new nougat tone – it looks particularly fresh when paired with navy sheets.

Kip & Co.

As is typical for the brand, the, Kip & Co. autumn drop is rather large with lots of gems to be found. We’re particularly fond of the ‘Blooms’ printed linen range that features an orange, white-washed green and pink floral print on an olive base with plain olive reverse. This design looks fabulous paired with the brand’s iconic velvet quilt cover in the new khaki colour way. From $209.

Aura’s much-loved Maison Vintage coverlet has had an autumnal makeover and is now available in a gorgeous warm tone the the brand has called hazelnut. Perfect for the in-between seasons, the coverlet is made from French flax grown sustainably in the coastal regions of France and blended with sustainably sourced, super soft cotton. The brand’s Maison Vintage quilt cover in Syrah is a sophisticated choice too. From $259.

Linen House

Linen House has embraced green in a major way this autumn from khaki to forest green and other shades too. The large-scale ‘Wren Forest’ quilt cover set and the ‘Heath Eucalyptus’ quilt cover set are particularly lovely. From $169.99.

Navy is big on the bedding front at Adairs also – perhaps the classic shade is the new charcoal? The pretty ‘Wild Garden’ pale green quilt cover set is one for the floral lovers. From $159.99.

Autumn bed linen trends: Our favourite new bedding

With temperatures starting to drop, we’re rather excited about the potential for bedroom restyling – out with summer’s light fabrics and colours and in with a much more autumnal vibe. With key colours including tobacco, navy, lilac and sage, this year’s autumn/winter looks are all about sumptuous texture.

L&M Home: Released recently, the brand’s new Massimo collection won’t win many awards for pushing the envelope but boy is it luxe. Comprised of soft cotton quilted in a linear design, this design would suit just about any interior style. Pair it with tobacco toned velvet cushions for a crisp autumn look.

Castle and Things: Rachel Castle’s latest collection features more of her iconic spots and stripes but this time with an autumn/winter colour update.

“We wanted our new autumn/winter range to squeal ‘snuggle’ factor, warmth with a twist and grown up but cosy. So, we’ve got little buttery spots and big cloudy stripes with the cosiest new butterscotch floral. This season tells our signature story – strictly edited modern classics with a cheeky little wink,” says Rachel Castle.

Aura Home: Available in navy and caramel, Aura’s new Maya chenille quilt cover draws inspiration from the old and the new. Made from 100 per cent pure cotton for, we love its textural, bohemian vibe.

Kip & Co: Titled ‘Magic Happens,’ the autumn Kip & Co. collection has plenty for the maximalists and for those who favour a more subdued aesthetic. And while there are myriad florals, texture abounds with cotton velvet, French linen, soft cotton, chunky blanket knits, and waffle fabrics rounding out the range.

Kip & Co.

Linen House: Constructed from fine cotton voile, and trimmed with frayed rustic edges, the new Elysian bedding from Linen House gets our tick of approval. We’re particularly fond of the on-trend orchid/lilac and eucalyptus colour ways.

The brand’s new Della design is much bolder – a hand-painted, gestural leaf design features in 1970’s inspired hues.

One of our favourite brands, AURA Home, opens a retail store

For years Tracie Ellis would drive by a little corner store with its cascading ivy wall in Melbourne’s inner east, and dream of it one day being hers. And a week ago it became reality; with Tracie opening the bricks and mortar version of her very successful homewares brand, AURA Home.

Having established the label in 2000 and launched the online store nine years later, for Tracie, opening a retail space was an opportunity to take a step back and interact with the local community. “There’s no doubt there is a huge customer base that loves the convenience of shopping online, but there are also a lot of people who like to touch and feel our products. Our new store is a place to meet our loyal and new customers and inspire them to create beautiful spaces in their homes.”

With that idea in mind, Tracie decided to move away from the traditional shop layout, instead designing – with the help of interior designer Amanda Lynn – a space focused on the core areas of the home. “We have a living room area, to showcase our cushions and throws; a dining area, featuring our ceramics and linen; a beautiful bedroom space for our sheets and quilt covers; and a bathroom area draped with our beautiful towels.”

As well as AURA Home products, the store has incorporated furniture and homewares many may recognise from the brand’s beautiful photography. These include statement pieces from MRD furniture and HK Living, limited edition Isamu Sawa prints, no.27 fragrance house candles and much more. “We have worked with some very special people from some of our favourite brands to produce a curated range of products,” says Tracie. “We wanted to make sure we had something for everyone – the only problem is I keep buying things for myself every time I am in the store!”

Tracie

Situated in the suburb of Malvern, the high street is known as one of the go-to places to shop for furniture and homewares. “We would like to help build on that and create a place Melbournians can shop for all things home,” explains Tracie. “Malvern is beautiful and we already feel like we are part of the local community.”

Visit the AURA Home Concept Store at 1371 Malvern Rd, Malvern, Melbourne. And if you’re in the area next Thursday 7 December, make sure you check out the store, as they’ll be open until 9pm with champagne flowing!

Aura’s stoneware brings elegance to the kitchen

When Aura launched their first kitchenware collection — which featured a gorgeous array of patterned porcelain — earlier this year, it was just the first step.

aura kalimixedplates

Now, they’re back! And this time they’re presenting a sublimely tactile, high-fired stoneware range. There are plates, bowls, trays and cups in marshmallow, peppermint, pastel pink, graphite, coral and yellow, each piece beautifully crafted and glazed by skilled artisans.

It is because of this expert hand-finish that each piece’s glaze remains unique. And by choosing only the most eco-friendly, highly durable materials, which are dishwasher and microwave safe, the Aura collection is the perfect answer for those seeking elegant, yet functional ceramic tableware.

Take 5 with Aura’s Tracie Ellis

Each week we shine the spotlight on some of Australia’s best designers, artists and stylists and have them share with us what’s making them tick; anything from the best advice they’ve ever received to their favourite holiday destination. Today we chat to Tracie Ellis, founder of homewares brand Aura.

TracieEllisLOW 11

1. What is your favourite holiday destination?

Outback Australia with my husband. I love being remote and away from the crowds, just popping on shorts, a t-shirt and thongs and being out in such beautiful country. Also the lack of internet and phone coverage! The only way I will stop working.

2. What is the best gift you’ve received?

My engagement ring from my husband David, after being together for 10 years I can honestly say I didn’t see that coming! Needless to say there were tears.

3. What’s your go-to recipe?

Andrew McConnell’s slow cooked lamb with cumin. I cooked this to take to a friend’s lunch a couple of years ago and it’s always fabulous. You slow cook the lamb for eight-to-10 hours knowing that at the end of the day you will have a winner meal on your hands!

4. What is your favourite shop?

ESS in Gertrude St, Fitzroy as it’s locally made, the people who work there are so friendly and it has great one-off pieces. I never come out without a purchase.

5. What is your favourite piece of furniture you own?

Our new Cheminees Philippe Wood Fireplace. As well as being the most beautiful fireplace you will ever see it is doing a marvellous job of keeping us toasty and warm in Kyneton.

Aura now offering fun, colourful ceramic kitchenware

Over the past 15 years Aura have created 30 collections of stunning homewares. They’ve done almost everything, from bed linen in the bedroom and cushions and throws in the living room to table linen in the dining room and towels in the bathroom. But today marks a big change, as Aura enter the heart of the home, the kitchen, with their first range of ceramics.

aDI0vcS7d2CH8rPm7MZDuLtJBMMFegDArVHhuAc8AQg,-tuhLsbjxUFMoQXRAHVcpyCEGJ-ANJgo-ppW5IbPk-M

“The kitchen is my favourite room in the house,” explains founder Tracie Ellis. “I love entertaining and spend my weekends cooking for friends and family, often with produce we’ve grown in our garden in Kyneton. So the ceramics collection is really for me. I needed a dinner set so of course I designed one. I am hoping our Aura customers like it too.”auraA comprehensive collection it includes coffee mugs, tapas plates, stacking bowls, tea cups, side plates, dinner plates, salt and olive bowls, dip bowls, tapas bowls and serving trays in a variety of materials. aura1However, not all of the range has been released today, with the collection trickling out over the following months. What you can get your hands on right now though, are the coffee mugs, tapas plates and stacking bowls in patterned porcelain.aura2Designed in Melbourne, but inspired by years of global meandering, the ceramic designs are both inspired by travel and Aura’s current bed linen range. With many of the bedding patterns having been transferring beautifully onto ceramics. An amazing result!

Peter McManus on making timber furniture from Victoria’s most iconic sites

After spending his formative years working in commercial construction with his father and older brother, Peter McManus began to feel restless. Booking a one way ticket to Bangkok, he set off on a life changing adventure, determined to foster new ideas and form a fresh foundation from which to reinvent himself.

Peter
Peter

He returned, eventually, with a desire to earn his living as a musician! However, after giving it a decent shot, it became obvious that it wasn’t for him (though he does tell me he still sings in a band called Stax on soul Revue!). So Peter decided to back off the music and refocus on his other passion, working with wood… and thank goodness he did!

Sunrise and Tipi

Beginning Yard Furniture, formally known as Reclaimed Timber Furniture, four years ago, it began in a small workshop in his backyard; where he’d make pieces for friends, family and of course his own home. Today, however, is a much different story, with Peter’s new Melbourne location consisting of a showroom, workshop and storage space.

Cosmic Elliptical with Urbanloom chairs

Creating high-end quality furniture, he is committed to breathing new life into ex-structural, recycled timbers; often working with raw sawn beams demolished from some of Victoria’s most iconic sites, such as Abbotsford Honda factory, Alphington Paper Mill and recently the Del Monti Suits Factory, Preston.

[contextly_sidebar id=”kdmYlp2kmE6ZURxCqZ3QUlalzldeWeGo”]So to say Peter is a fan of timber, well that’s the understatement of the century! ” What do I love about timber? How much time do you have?! I love timber because it gives me so much variety in texture, tone and density. Every piece is different and it’s also therapeutic in the same way being in nature is. I source the timber from various places: scrap yards, salvage yards, demolition sites or demolition companies. I try to acquire large quantities as it allows me to get familiar with a batch of timber, thus being able to replicate a piece that we display.”

TiPi side table

Creating all types of high-end interior furniture, from tables to bed suites to entertainment units, Yard Furniture create a staple collection, as well as custom pieces. “We do get commissioned to make one offs, which are usually a design collaboration with the client, or some clients will bring their own design to us. That said, I always like to put my own little twist on anything I make!”

Neptune Sofa setting1

Yet putting his own spin on things is not exclusive to furniture, with Peter having recently transformed a run down factory on the fringe of Preston’s industrial precinct, into a beautiful, spacious 220 square metre showroom. “Our showroom has been a massive operation, one of the biggest projects I’ve undertaken. It was all closed in with a large steel mezzanine, so we demolished the mezzanine then punched a big opening in the front wall making a very attractive shop front and spacious showroom.”

Walrus entertainment unit

Now in the process of filling the showroom with stock, Yard Furniture is stocking not just their own furniture, but homewares from local designers and artisans. “Our policy on the homewares that we stock is that our suppliers are local or nationally based. We are currently stocking ceramic’s from Lheme & Celeste, wire pot stands from Ivy Muse, soy candles from Darling Mockingbird, stock chairs from Feelgood Designs and linen from Aura. We are also offering our showroom space to be a gallery for artists to exhibit their creations.”

Aura’s new collection of bath towels, out now!

After introducing a first gorgeous range of bath towels last season, Aura have decided to expand their collection, launching three new designs across three harmonising colourways.

aoysAM2zYjZo3RBQQ6B9UmCbCzdIGzvksH-SAH61RDo

The Winter 2015 collection sees Aura’s trademark Scandinavian-inspired patterning remain, alongside last season’s premier colours: charcoal and neon lime. New additions include fiery coral, alongside the more soft-hued tones of dove grey and mint.

3G_vwy1rIDuRvhhaGad31SWF9mj9YmI7ag7iaiegWNI

It’s the way the new designs work together, however, that really set them apart. From the textured Check to the larger-than-life Kolmio and the classic Lattice, each towel is purposely designed to coordinate with the anothers.

Win a $200 voucher to celebrate AURA’s new towel range

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an AURA by Tracie Ellis collection I didn’t LOVE and the latest offerings are no exception. What’s really exciting though, is that the brand has branched into towels, meaning the gorgeous looks that were previously reserved for your bedroom can now brighten up the often neglected bathroom too.

bathtowels

This is not the first time I’ve highlighted the very small range of fashionable towels on the Australian market so these are a very welcome addition. If you like what you see, you could win a $200 voucher to snap some up yourself. More on that later…

bathtowelscharcoallime

The latest AURA releases, including bed linen, cushions and table linen, are definitely nodding towards summer with their bright and happy hues. Those pictured are already available so if you’re fed up of the winter weather, no need to wait until the sunshine comes back to get things looking a little more summery in your home.

I’m a big believer in accessorising your bathroom to make it a more inviting and personalised space. You obviously don’t want to fill it with dust-attracting clutter, but towels are a necessity, right? So if they can double as decoration, you’re winning. And any excuse for an update!

latticequiltcoverneoncoral

For your chance to win the $200 AURA voucher, simply complete the form below by midnight on Tuesday 5 August 2014. Giveaway open to Australian residents only. Voucher can be spent on anything in stock on the AURA website.

Top tip: you can get 10% off your first order if you sign up for the AURA newsletter.

Featuring an array of natural tones, herringbone and twill patterns, the rugs are hand loomed and dyed using only natural dyes. Jute is a sustainably-harvested, fast-growing and renewable natural fibre, with all the rugs designed in Australia and created in India.

Available in the solid colours of midnight, sea blue, scarlet, natural and saffron, patterned twill in indigo and herringbone in willow and black, the only downside of these rugs will be deciding which one to take home!

Prices start at $249. For more information.
