Discover Megan Morton’s colour theory and new Sheridan range

Celebrated interior stylist and author Megan Morton has used the latest dusty pink and purple Sheridan range to illustrate her unique colour theory.

SHERIDAN MM8552_MIDFOCUS-CMYK

The stylist’s ‘Three Degrees of Colour’ theory not only supports the range, but it’s a great method for anyone to employ when using colour in the home. Basically, you need to consider the room and adjust the levels of colour accordingly, whether it be the ‘accent a little, ‘enhance some more,’ or the ‘immerse yourself in colour’ approach.

SHERIDAN MM8445_FRONTFOCUS-CMYK

“A beautiful home works when all the rooms and spaces have a holding palette – tones that hold them together beautifully. You can then use a little amount of your chosen colour in one room, be slightly more heavy handed in another and go fuller strength in another without the fear of over-colouring,” says Megan.

For example, given its functionality, a bathroom usually only requires a touch of colour and towels will usually provide this. The lounge room, however, requires that bit more – think layers of coloured and textured cushions on the sofa. The bedroom is the perfect space in which to go full-tilt with your chosen colour – think a feature wall and complementary cushions on the bed.

SHERIDAN MM8601-CMYK

“Your instinct needs to play a part which is why colour palettes are such a hard one to copy from a Pinterest image,” says Megan, who always considers the entire space before starting on a project. “When it comes to the use of colour, you must consider the floor and wall tones as well as the external elements should the room enjoy windows looking outward. Rooms are never just four walls and a roof – they frame the outside world.

“My colour theory works across all tones in the same way that eyeshadow application works. Sometimes you only need a little, sometimes a bit more and some occasions require a lot! Ultimately though, you should always consider the room’s mood, tone and usage.”

We’re crushing on Mi Casa Su Casa from Feliz Home

We were really happy when we heard Feliz Home had a new collection to share with us!

Co-founder Melissa Alessi says: “We are so proud of the quality we have achieved and the designs we have added to our core range. Feliz’ designs continue to be playful for kids, with a sophistication and simplicity in our designs for teens and adults.

feliz1

“Layer as much or as little colour and fun as you wish and enjoy knowing that our designs have been drawn by hand, screenprinted by hand and sometimes painted by hand! Not only are the designs new but the family is growing. We have added a bunch of beautiful new products and styles to the range.”

feliz3

We particularly like the freehand spots of Sprinkle Sprinkle, which comes in charcoal, fluro pink or gold. Fun pillowcases feature text like buenas noches, siesta/fiesta, yeah/nah, happiness and love.

feliz5

We think the range is fun without feeling too childish or bright and it’s really up to you how much colour and fun you layer up. We also love how you can mix and match many pieces.

feliz2

After years of working in product development for large companies and not-for-profit organisations, and the birth of their children, Melissa, along with Jane Forbes, decided there was no better time than to join forces and create something that was truly them. With light hearts and industrious hands they decided to create a brand that reflected how they felt: feliz (happy)!

feliz4

Using organic and sustainably produced fabrics, their designs are lovingly hand screenprinted using water-based inks, in their studios in Geelong and Melbourne, VIC.

New Spring/Summer bedding range from The Bedroom Society

Boutique bedding label, The Bedroom Society, has returned with a more expansive offering this season, in the form of a Spring/Summer 2015 capsule collection of pure linen and cotton bedding and accessories in shades of charcoal, mint, peach and white.

The Bedroom society 1

“It’s a big step up as I have expanded the range so there’s printed sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases,” says designer, Lauren Roe of the collection that is designed to be both trans-seasonal and mixed and matched.

“I’ve focussed on a colour theme of charcoal, mint, peach and white and I really love how it’s all come together. I love to blend different patterns, colours and fabrics together for the overall look,” says Lauren.

The Bedroom society 4

The range features screen-printed designs in cute and classic polka dots, herringbone and diamond patterns with a classic touch. In particular, the 100 per cent French flax linen sheets and duvet covers are ultra luxe.

The Bedroom society 7

“The reversible pom pom coverlets are quite special as they’re stitched by hand, each pom pom is custom made and both sides of the coverlet are a different colour for contrast,” says Lauren of the range’s standout piece. It took almost six months of sampling before an artisan was chosen to create each coverlet by hand. As a bonus, they’re the perfect weight for use all year round.

The Bedroom society 10

“I really hope my customers join me on this design journey – I’ve moved past the bright and fun troppo prints of the past,” says Lauren of the more sophisticated collection. “I feel like my personality is truly reflected in this range and I hope my customers will invest in prints that are more classic and will last longer trend-wise. The pieces provide the perfect base to add new cushions or pillow cases each season,” says Lauren.

How to style the perfectly relaxed but luxurious bed!

Sponsored by Sheridan

It’s the stylist’s secret everyone wants to know: how to make your bed look that perfect blend of luxuriously comfortable but not too ‘done’. Well, lucky for you, we have the answers for you today. Check out this great video tutorial from linen giants Sheridan and you’ll soon be making your relaxed-looking bed like a pro!

Do you sleep in linen? I have plenty of it in my own (extensive!) bedding collection and I love the texture of its slight crumple. I just love that relaxed look. The bed in the video has been made with Sheridan’s Abbotson range, which features linen flat and fitted sheets, quilt covers, bed covers and pillowcases. It was launched in 2011 and has fast become a bestseller.

Abbotson Snow Quilt Cover_SHR

There’s a range of colours so it’s up to you if you want to go more matchy-matchy or mix things up with some contrast; perhaps a dark sheet and pillowcases under a crisp white quilt. The barely blue Breeze is a fresh new colourway for this year.

Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 12.14.42 pm

While linen is known for looking more casual, there’s something so luxurious about those natural fibres. And this being Sheridan, you’re getting some pretty top notch textile! After researching linens from all over the world for a number of years, they developed their own with fibres sourced from Belgium. The thickness of the yarn was considered and countless fibres tested to arrive at the final product years later.

To the unconverted, linen has a reputation for feeling a little bit scratchy, so they made sure theirs was the softest. What I love about linen is how it gets better and softer with every wash, which is why I invested in mine last year!

How do YOU make YOUR bed? Do you love this look? Will you be trying it for yourself at home?
