“This collection was inspired by the Australian landscape, life and culture.  It’s also a trip down memory lane to my childhood hence the Pac Mate, Birdwatch and Billie prints. The designs are quirky and echo the past in a modern way,” says Inga Rodd, Goosebumps designer, of the limited edition collection.

“As we’ve added new categories this season, I’d have to say I adore all the novelty cushions which include Billie, Toasted and Lady Bug Love.  Also the round quilted play mats are great as they come in so many fun designs and they’re quilted and ultra-soft for your little tots’ tums! I also love the new Baa Baa print which is a personal favourite,” says Inga.

We love to bring a sense of fun and adventure into every bedroom young and ripe! We are mad colour nuts and love thinking out of the box and coming up with adventurous designs with a twist of nostalgia to each piece,” says Inga.

Competitions Expert Tips RENO ADDICT

Win a $4,975 renovating course and start your flipping dream!

Do you watch The Block every week thinking “I could do that’? Want to get cracking on making money with your own renovations? I’m excited to announce an amazing competition, where one lucky reader will win a spot on the Rapid Renovation Formula (RRF) program valued at $4,975, including a live, two-day Boutique Renovation Boot Camp in Sydney this November.

What you will learn

When it comes to renovating property for wealth, a ‘one size fits all’ approach is not a viable strategy. In fact, every individual will have slightly different needs and resources, and will be working in a slightly different market.

Over the course of over 110 renovations, course author Dr Naomi Findlay (resident expert on our sister site Reno Addict) has optimised a proven step by step formula for maximising your profit when renovating property. She’s combined this with an unrivalled suite of templates and tools to create the Rapid Renovation Formula.

Dr Naomi Findlay
Dr Naomi Findlay, creator of the Rapid Renovation Formula

The course gives you access to seven printed resources, monthly phone calls with Naomi, software, access to exclusive discounts from national suppliers, introductions to Naomi’s personal consulting team, styling and finishing formulas, a two-day live bootcamp and much much more! After completing the course, you will have the tools, team and formula to renovate for wealth, and a formula you can use renovation after renovation.

How to enter

We want to get an idea of your renovator potential!

  1. Find a property listing on realestate.com.au that looks like a good renovator.
  2. In 1,000 words or less, tell us what you would do would/not do to this property in a renovation to increase its value and eventual sale price. Include a basic floorplan showing any changes you’d propose to make (you will not be judged on how slick this is; you’re even welcome to scan in and email a hand drawn plan!).  We love seeing your ideas so you can also include a link to a Pinterest board with your inspiration for the renovation. Explain the different elements using comments on the images. Please include the projected or estimated post-renovation sale price of the property.

The top 3 finalists will be judged by myself and RRF author and educator Naomi, based on:

  1. The level of innovation
  2. The ability to design and style to meet the market expectations.

The top three entries will then be posted on the Interiors Addict Facebook page for a people’s vote.

Don’t hang around because entries close at midnight AEST on 30 September 2016. The winner will be announced on Interiors Addict on 5 October 2016.

Win latest Rachel Castle bedding in gorgeous slate linen

The new printed and plain slate linen bedding from Castle was designed with the boys in mind but could equally be styled up for girls (little ones or grown-ups)!
 RC-MASTER-EDITED-22_7
Rachel Castle says: “We’re so excited about our new slate 100% linens, such a bedding staple. We wanted to make something that the boys would like too for once, as we are very much known for our love of a floral and a spot!
quilt_linen_charcoal_960x560
“So you can make a pretty bed with the floral and spot pillowcases and some soft pastel velvets, or a more masculine bed with the new linen stripes. Give it as much or as little colour as you like.”
pillowcase_linen_jumbospot_960x650
As a mother of a teenage boy, Rachel herself struggled with what to put on his bed. “The simplicity of a slate linen — all that texture and crinkly goodness, cause he’s never going to keep it neat — with a black velvet pillowcase and a simple blue stripe, was perfect,” she said. “The slate also happily takes you all through spring to summer, still warm but crisp.”
pillowcase_linen_flora_960x650

I have to say readers, my Castle grey linen sheet and quilt cover is some of the nicest I’ve slept in. So soft!

Available in double, queen and king. Quilt cover from $235, sheet from $130 and pillowcases $59 each.

Competition time

We are giving away one queen size set of quilt cover, fitted and flat sheet and two pillowcases from the range, of your choice. For your chance of winning, complete the form below by 6pm AEST on Monday 12 September 2016.

Win an upholstered bedhead in your choice of shape and fabric

When I heard Fantastic furniture were offering custom upholstered bedheads, in a wide range of fabrics and a choice of three designs, all for under $200 and made right here in Australia, I thought they had to be seen to be believed! I mean, that’s crazy money, right?!

The Classic design
The Classic design

So they let me see for myself and I couldn’t be more impressed with mine in my bedroom! I went for the modern and simple Sleek design in Premium Marcy Grey (RRP $199). Many of you commented on it in my recent bedroom makeover pictures.

The quality is great, it’s comfortable to sit up against (I have been known to use my laptop in bed now and again…) and it really does not look like it would cost less than $200! So I’m really excited to share with you that treating yourself to a custom hero piece for your bedroom is now within everyone’s reach!

Screen-Shot-2016-02-26-at-10.51.24-AM-768x512

Ordering online is a great experience too. You can order up to five free fabric samples (there are 100-plus to choose from, patterned and plain, standard and premium) to be sent to you so you can be sure you’re ordering the right colour and fabric for your room (I’d really recommend this). But you can also see a mock-up online of what your choice of design and fabric might look like.

You can expect to wait 4-to-6 weeks for your order and delivery is $75. If you don’t already have them, brackets to attach it to your ensemble bed will set you back an extra $35. The only downside is that they are currently only available in queen size.

The panelled Fashion design

You know what price is better than $199 though? Free! One lucky reader will a bedhead of their choice, delivered. To enter, complete the form below by midnight AEST on Sunday 3 July 2016. Good luck!

Disclosure: Fantastic Furniture gifted me the bedhead for review purposes. Positive coverage was not guaranteed and this is, as always, an honest review.

My bedroom makeover + win a $1,000 west elm voucher for yours!

Sponsored by west elm

JenBishop_web_jacquiturk-1

We recently bought our first home in Sydney and have been slowly but surely adding our touches to it. The biggest job is a full bathroom reno and we’ve just locked that down so you can follow its progress in the new few months! Onto less involved projects, and I was keen to make the most of our beautiful master bedroom. It’s spacious and light-filled with two windows, and is definitely the largest bedroom Damian and I have ever had.

JenBishop_web_jacquiturk-4

When we moved from our last place, I got ruthless at chucking out what I didn’t need or love. Bed, drawers and desk aside, it was a pretty blank canvas in the bedroom. We had it painted (Resene’s Black White) before we moved in, and installed new floors (natural oak laminate from Darren Palmer’s Provincial Lane range for Carpet Court) and it was just crying out for those extra layers of warmth, texture, colour and interest. I couldn’t think of a store I’d rather team up with to transform it than west elm as I pretty much love everything they do, so when they asked me, I leapt at the chance to work with them to turn my bedroom into a grown-up sanctuary (and the one place we try and keep the baby’s toys out of)! I’ve also recently moved a secretaire desk into the bedroom and when our part-time nanny starts, I plan on sometimes hiding in there to work!

JenBishop_web_jacquiturk-12

Their Design Services stylist, Brendan Nash, asked me what sort of look I was after before providing a mood board. I immediately loved almost everything on it, so after making a few tweaks, I left it all in his capable hands until makeover day! It was so exciting to have a professional style my bedroom; what a treat!

Regular readers will know my favourite colour is navy, which is convenient for a couple’s room because it’s nice and unisex! I also love gold accents and have them throughout our home, from my sofa legs to cabinet handles, accessories and so on. I wanted the room to feel calm and cosy, conducive to both relaxing and sleeping and focusing to write at my desk.

JenBishop_web_jacquiturk-6

I think you’ll agree, he nailed it! I absolutely love our new room and have found myself going to bed early a lot because I’m so keen to hang out in there! I also swear my bed is more confortable thanks to its new linen, although I’m not sure if this is in my head or the reality?! I’m also a definite convert to the top sheet, something I have never seen the point of having before with a doona! With winter drawing in, it was the perfect time to transform this space into a warm and inviting boudoir!

JenBishop_web_jacquiturk-11

I love the layered rug look (something I wouldn’t have been brave enough to try myself) and while I don’t think I’d have picked the bedsides myself, they’re a surprise hit! I love the texture and warmth added by the reclaimed timber, but the white lacquer is modern and light and easily wipe clean. I love the roomy drawer to hide away all those essentials, and the space underneath for books and mags.

It was a real luxury to have my bed made to look like one out of a magazine spread and I watched Brendan and his colleague Naomi Young carefully, making mental notes. I absolutely love the feel and laid back luxe look of linen but had never thought of choosing it in navy before, always playing it safe with white. I really love the colour injection in this room. Cleverly, the only touches of pink are in the one cushion and the flowers, so if I want to change the pink to a different accent colour down the track it’ll be really easy (and let’s face it, everything goes with navy!).

If you have a little bedroom envy (and frankly, I couldn’t blame you!), then listen up, because west elm are giving you the chance to win a $1,000 voucher to spend on goodies for your own home. Simply enter using the form below by midnight Sydney time on 25 May 2016.

Discover the next big thing at the VIVID design comp in July

A rare opportunity to check out the cream of the crop of Australia’s design talent, the VIVID (Vibrant Vision in Design) competition will run again this year as part of Melbourne’s Décor + Design show from July 21-24 this year.

_MGL6347

Jeremy Lee’s ‘Lo Chair’

Australia’s longest running design competition, it’s a fabulous platform for emerging designers to garner the attention of buyers, development and production managers, interior designers and manufacturers and competition finalists are also granted a first-hand look into the inner machinations of the design industry – a fabulous learning opportunity all-round.

“VIVID 2016 aims to convey to the design industry the talent of emerging Australian designers. We aim to shine a spotlight on designers who are raising the bar in terms of innovation and design thinking,” says Daniel Della Riva, VIVID Curator. This year’s crop runs the full gamut from ultra-modern to more classic design aesthetics though a strong theme has emerged this year across the board of finalists – the use of natural timbers.

Braghurst_Glen_TheOutdoorEventsChair

Glen Braghurst’s ‘Outdoor Chair’

A favourite finalist of ours, Glen Braghurst’s ‘Outdoor Chair’ will have you looking super chic at your next festival – made from Swedish leather that has been wrapped around a powder-coated steel frame this chair really is an object of understated beauty.

We’re also loving Richard Greenacre’s ‘Hex Table Lamp’ – the gorgeous powdery blue shade especially. This interesting design was dreamt up after the designer was inspired by a piece of hexagonal brass.

Greenacre_Richard_HexTableLamp

Richard Greenacre’s ‘Hex Table Lamp’

Pushing the natural theme to its limit, Gary Pennington’s ‘Groove Floor Lamp’ is made from bamboo and hand-printed hemp cloth while Jeremy Lee’s handmade ‘Lo Chair’ is a sleek low chair that features simple clean lines made from beautiful wood too.

Whiting Architects triumph in 2016 Dulux Colour Awards

In its milestone 30th year, the Dulux Colour Awards were handed out recently at Melbourne’s Myer Mural Hall with the talented winners commended for their imaginative use of colour. We’re huge fans of the way that paint can transform a space and this year’s winners really demonstrated that notion. Whiting Architects took out the top prize in both the interior and exterior residential categories – hats off to them!

unnamed

Normanby project: Single Residential Interior winner

Their Normanby project took out the “Single Residential Interior” category which we love for its creative and unexpected application of colour. “Normanby is a courageous project which showcases a perfectly crafted, clever use of colour using pastel hues with natural materials and bold colour in exactly the right proportion,” said the judging panel.

unspecified-4

Normanby project – we love that aqua cabinetry!

Featuring Dulux shades Lexicon Quarter, Domino, Marshmallow Quarter and Deluxe Days, we love the aqua blue cabinetry in the bathroom in particular – for reference, it’s painted in Dulux Ice Pack Quarter. “Using what typically could be a jarring combination of hues, this original palette subtly defines spaces within the home,” said the judging panel. We love the way the paint really enhances the home’s natural materials including leather and wood too.

unspecified-2

Normanby project

In a stellar year for the firm, Whiting Architects also walked away with top honours in the “Single Residential Exterior” category too for their ‘O’Grady’ project – this entry one was one of our early favourites.

unspecified-6

O’Grady project: Single Residential Exterior winner

“The restrained and unique palette used for O’Grady achieves a perfect balance between colours defining two periods. The exterior has an urban feel with a masculine mood in Dulux Domino adding drama in the entrance with a contrasting pastel. The project displays refinement with an edge!” said the judging panel.

unnamed-2

O’Grady project

Aside from Dulux Domino, the project also featured Dulux Ghosting, Hugo Double, Lexicon Quarter and Mudpack. 2016 Dulux Colour Awards Commendations went out to the following firms in the residential categories too – FMD Architects, Hola Projects, Louise Walsh, Michelle Walker Architects, McBride Charles Ryan and ASA Architects.

Grace Wood of Grace Wood Designs is a big proponent of the awards. “It’s a no-brainer! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain from entering the awards. I had so much support pouring in from family, friends and friends of friends during the awards. That support alone helped to reinforce that my business was worthwhile and my product was appreciated by a lot of people,” said Grace.

Entries are open until April 29. See here for more.

The winner of 7 Vignettes April with Choices Flooring

Congratulations to @projectafterproject, the winner of this month’s 7 Vignettes contest as picked by our sponsor Choices Flooring!

Choices Flooring’s online content manager Ingrid Powell, says: “We have really enjoyed seeing all the entries to 7 Vignettes. After some debate in our office we have decided on Project after Project as the winner. Besides the birds eye view image being so cute, we also like that her entries were simplistic, not overly styled and were really happy to see how she understood our ‘fifth wall’ being the floor!”
